Model Casting F/W 10.11

Sad Bianca was at Givenchy, but I loved seening Ling Tan there!!

But was the collection itself even very predictable Givenchy? I think that factors in as well.

Funny that you mention it, I was actually thinking about that earlier. When I was looking at the collection for the first time, I was really looking at the clothes, which I strongly disliked this time. After that, it was harder to appreciate the casting as well.

I guess it's all about the total look, and this time around I don't understand what look they were going for at all and I think this was also reflected in the casting somehow

Thanatos, I still think it's personal definitions of "plain" coming into play, though. I myself find the opener, Yuliana, to be far plainer than AMJ & Patricia...and anything but Givenchy-esque. But was the collection itself even very predictable Givenchy? I think that factors in as well.

As for Joan, I think you perhaps missed the fact that she was 2nd look at his previous couture show and has been a runway dominant since - so Givenchy is, in a way, trying to reclaim her with the Paris exclusive because that HC show was when Joan first returned to the spotlight. So yah, you're right in saying that it has nothing to do with the fact that she's black - and it shouldn't have anything to do with that.

I'd probably agree, but the reason I mentioned those girls was because they were some of the few that I recognized and knew their names.... and yeah I personally found the collection pretty Givenchy-esque, it was different and I didn't like it, but still it had the elements I would expect from a Givenchy show. I don't know what you think I'm saying about Joan, but all I'm saying is that I don't think she should be casted at Givenchy now and at the couture show (which I was aware of) just because she is black, which automatically qualifies her as a Givenchy girl.

I don't get how you think Joan was casted JUST because she was black

Maybe its just coming out wrong?

Fair enough, but I still stand by the idea that Riccardo - like every other designer - is seeking his personal sensibilities, and that has nothing to do with what you or I consider to be plain. Strong women can also be defined in terms of personality, and if some of the girls exude that kind of quality to him on a one-on-one basis, then of course he would find that appealing enough as well. And if it doesn't work out on the runway like he expected, well...he just won't use them a second time.

Uh...no comment. What you said in your previous post made far more sense (And thus I agreed with it). It might be a good idea to stop this discussion now.

I liked some of the Givenchy cast, but Patricia was the weak link for me.

That's fine by me, I'm not going to make you reply to my posts, I'm just giving my opinion.
Basically and bluntly what I am saying about Joan is that she isn't suited to Givenchy. I don't see black as a single "look", Rose and some of the other black girls there who I am unfamiliar with do have the Givenchy look. But Joan is like the black equivalent if Lisanne De jong imo. I'm sure people may disagree with that, but I don't see it as any different than saying Lindsey Wixon doesn't suit Versace.

but then for those two situations to be parallel, you would have to make the comment that Lindsey was cast for Versace just because she was white.. makes no sense. Just like the Joan comment made no sense. You are definitely entitled to your opinion, that is what makes this forum so enjoyable, but... that was just one comment I could not understand.

I think I get it now, you say Joan was just booked for the sake of diversity and having more black models at your show?
I think that's fine to say and not even racist, if you think she's plain that's okay.

So.... does anyone know who's gonna be the exclusive for Miu Miu tomorrow? Miu Miu is tomorrow right?

^^^^Not saying that the discussion should stop simply because we're disagreeing - I just don't want you to word something again in a way that sounds off-kilter and potentially digs a hole for yourself

But anyway...

Oh:lol:... Sorry :(, just trying to change the subject.

No worries - perfectly fine to start talking about it now  The cast won't be finalized until closer to the show, though, of course.

like how close? Minutes? lol.. I wonder if Miu Miu is like Prada in terms of last minute decisions.

So curious about Miu Miu cast too. I wonder if it's not going to be as diverse as Prada was, guess not.

I'm also wondering who's going to be a YSL exclusive... given if they have any exclusives this time because I think last season's exclusive Katharine F. is sick so she hasn't walked any shows this season. I would be surprised to see her tomorrow.

OooH I hope Mina for YSL again! Her appearances are so rare, I usually can count YSL.. but who knows..

Adriana is in Paris now. I wonder if someone else got to her before Givenchy to be an exclusive. I am crossing my fingers.
