I think the older girls either get paid at least $10,000 (even thought I have a really hard time believing some of these houses would shell out that much cash) OR they do it because of the prestige/great relationship with the designer/stylist. But I really really doubt Hanne Gaby can command a pay rate of $10000 per show.

what about Kassia she's another model that most of her work is runway and may I said she might be in a higher level then Hanne (?)

Let me be clear: my point was not to diss Hanne.

My point was that there are other models in her same situation: models that have made their money over the years and who have chosen to give up runway (with the exception of a special appearance or two) because it is stressful.

I would agree that HG probably enjoys walking. Also, she's a model who definitely marches to the beat of her own drum.

This seems like a pretty accurate estimate. I'd say the smaller houses pay even less and some of them even pay (partially) in trade. Let's not forget HG is also walking bilboard for many designers, she'll wear the craziest looks which are blogged and tumblr'd all over the place. She's one of fashion's darlings and has a lifelong membership of the cool girls gang which also adopted Anna Ewers and Binx as their junior apprentices. Some may even call her a muse.

So, Imaan Hammam finally showed up, at Irfe it's been quite an awful season for diversity (excluding some shows of course like Marc, DVF, Balmain, Pucci, Burberry), probably the least diverse spring/summer season in yeeeears... i can only imagine how it'll be next Fall/Winter

But why do casting directors cast her, especially with tons of new models each season? Is it because she probably fits easily into any outfit?

I think it's a combination of the fact that she's willing and that people think she's supposed to be cool. After a girl survives a few seasons and proves she isn't a passing fad it's hard to get rid of her if she has any interest in continuing to walk. Once she's established, casting her adds instant prestige to a show. Individual taste and opinion are of little importance in the industry.

Personally I think Kasia is on a higher level, able to command more $ and ultimately a bigger model all round but she is definitely another one who amazes me with years of consistent (top level) runway work.

Sara Blomqvist said it wasn't legal for designers to pay in trade in Europe, but they can do it in New York but even so, I don't think these European houses pay that much unless you're a big name model on special request I think it's more about the prestige.

Good question. I think her personality has ALOT to do with it, she is extremely vibrant and enigmatic and definitely adds great dynamic to any show, plus, she is just cool
