More Drama On "The View" Today

I didn't know Plan B wasn't availble over the counter in the States because it is in Canada. I watched most of the clip and got tired of the banter and somebody correct me if I'm wrong: Plan B states that it only works when the sperm has NOT met the egg yet and just prevents the sperm from getting to the egg. Whereas Elizabeth was saying that Plan B kills the already fertilized egg and that's where she gets the concept that it's "destroying a baby". so technically her arguement is incorrect?
Plan B® is not RU-486 (the abortion pill); it will not work if you are already pregnant.

actually I guess it's her opinion so it doesn't really matter. I think lisa loeb handled herself well.

She obviously hasn't considered the kind of women who would most proably use this pill - poor, young Black, Hispanic single mothers. These women are not wealthy white women with endless resources like Elizabeth. It's just wrong to deny women who are at an economic and social disadvantage the choice to decide.

I was with you right up until you said this...Sounds like you are operating on a bit of stereotyping here. Especially if you consider that often African Americans and Latinos are at times very conservative when it comes to "moral beliefs" due to high religiosity in both communities.

But I do agree that resources and education would reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies.

^ I was about to say the same.....very much a stereotyping......and ignorant at that.....

WHOA! THREE guys posted -including me- on a tFS thread which has "The view" on the header !!!! See ... THATS shocking!

PS Feeling lazy ... will head home in 20 mins and dont feel like watching the whole vid. Mwa!

The View is the shiz, I don't care what anyone says the show's hilarious.

I saw this on youtube earlier today and I really didn't see the problem. Practically everyone knows she's a conservative democrat, and how can she be? (She reelected Bush for a second term :o.) I have no idea. I have no idea how anyone can be. But, that doesn't mean that they can't express their beliefs. She was obviously caught up in the moment trying to explain herself. The worst part is that she didn't even provide the facts in terms of how Plan B works. I've researched this for school, and like erin_k said, Plan B prevents ovulation or fertilization.

Okay, I'm digressing a whole lot, but what in the world does she wear on that show sometimes???!!! The other day she was wearing some type of beach wear... I'll try to find some pictures...

Oh please. How the hell am I being ignorant when I based my views on empirical evidence? The statistics from social research prove time and time again that if you're a women from a minority background - Black - you're most likely to be unmarried at the time you give birth or be a single mother than white women. Not to mention the fact that Black and Hispanic women are 2-4 times more likely than white women to get an abortion. I'm not steretyping here. My opinions aren't based on a belief that because of their race these women are more likely to consider this as an option. I'm merely saying that because of their social circumstances they're probably forced to consider it more. Whether you want to believe it or not, women from minority background are more likely to be at a disadvantage on almost all social fronts. They're being left behind by the system. Call it stereotyping or whatever you want, that's just the social reality.

I have trouble believing anything I see on TV, and doubt both the sincerity of the viewpoints espoused and the motivations behind those viewpoints, just as I doubt the truth of celebrity hoo-ha, though I do love to comment upon it.

I could only make it about 2 minutes into the video before being overwhelmed by an overwhelming urge to look up the lyrics to "Coca Cola Douche" by The Fugs. Funny, they're not on any lyrics finder site.

Barbara Walters wants to hug your unborn babies. Hug them, Barbara. We will teach them to buy things made far away.

I respect Lisa Loeb way more now.

Elizabeth Hasslebeck, I cannot believe I watched your crazy-*** on Look For Less!!

Ugh, I hate those liberal nutjobs on the view.

 I completely agree with you! Lisa came across as a very intelligent woman, whereas Elisabeth just needed to calm down. It's great that she is so passionate about the subject, but no one is going to take her seriously until she learns to argue her points more effectively.

Lisa Loeb was fantastic!

Someone mentioned that Elizabeth is Democrat... She's a hardcore Republican.

As for her argument against this pill... ridiculous. Typical one-sided overtly moral, overly religious Republican view.

I think it would be worded better if you said "Stereotypical one-side overtly moral, overly religious extreme right view."

Not all republicans are against the pill and not all republicans are 'overly religious'.

Oh come on, it was the same stupid argument with birth control pills and condoms....

Had I not known this girl who, before my very eyes, said she only used Plan B I wouldn't even being stating that 'stupid' argument. Did I say I was against the pill? No, I was only saying that there are, in fact, crazy women out there who would only use Plan B and nothing else.

WORD!! I like Yohanna House much better............she's not as robotic as Elizabeth.

I think it's great for people to have their views etc. And she did (in the beginning) sound very intelligent in stating her point. She refused to let other's speak, and it just went downhill from there.

I think she came across as really unprofessional and childish. She was tryiing to get her point across, because she felt so strongly about it, but at the same time she was doing to the others, what she didn't want done to her......for her opinion to be drowned out.

As far as Barbara not giving an opinion. She is a true journalist. It's not her job to state her beliefs.............it's her job to present the news etc. So I can see why she wanted to stay out of it.

i've always thought that on this particular show, the "passion" is mainly fueled by the cheers from the audience. not exactly a source for good opinion delivery. nevertheless, everyone should be respected. there's too many domineering personalities in one show that conflict is inevitable, which in turn makes for a good show. it's entertainment.

What exactly is the difference between extreme right and republican anyway? The U.S is predominantly a bicameral system - democrat & republican. The lines between both are getting thinner, but partisanship is heavily influenced by party platform. So would I be completley wrong to say that generally, the obvious Republican stance on this issue is to be totally against it?

In any case... back to Elizabeth. Did anyone catch that episode when Sandra Bernhard was on? Elizabeth has little to no professionalism at all. "Don't you honey me!!" ??? Seriously, what intelligent talk show host would behave like that? She reminds me of those really obnoxious pseudo-intellectual university students who hate conflicting opinions and who stop at nothing to have the last word on everything. Bicker, bicker, bicker.

I think advertisers sell more crap when your heart's in your throat from all the passionate political bantering. It causes you dis-ease, and since we all can't have Barbara Walters nearby to rub up against and placate us, well, there's always Mylanta or Haldol or something. Soft and cuddly extrapyramidal reactions. Mutual funds, I dunno.

Just make sure you can state your opinions clearly to anyone who might need to know them. The View will help you choose from the two possible answers there are--of course, only one is right, though. Is it your opinion the right one? You do have an opinion, don't you? You aren't waiting for that still, small voice of God are you? We don't have all day.

Then we all have something to talk about and thus keep a safe distance from each other. Because, you know, we will disagree, and I know to avoid you in the future. But we all buy the same crap and feel good knowing our viewpoint is superior. We feel safe. We feel superior.

Are you feeling like a sad cartoon balloon, yet? I know I am.

I believe planB works even following fertilization (Sperm and egg combine).. it stops working once the egg implants into the uterine wall.

Anywhoo.. I didn't see what the big deal was over Elizabeth's rant.. perhaps she could have toned it down a little more but isn't that what that whole show is about.. expressing different opinions on "THE VIEW"..
