More Drama On "The View" Today

I can't stand Elizabeth when it comes to politics. Just the way she goes about it is sooo incredibly defensive that it's annoying. She needs to learn to be open to other's ideas and learn to express hers in a better light. Being so defensive about it makes it seem more like everything she says is negative, which is in each person's opinion. To each their own.

Oh please. How the hell am I being ignorant when I based my views on empirical evidence? The statistics from social research prove time and time again that if you're a women from a minority background - Black - you're most likely to be unmarried at the time you give birth or be a single mother than white women. Not to mention the fact that Black and Hispanic women are 2-4 times more likely than white women to get an abortion. I'm not steretyping here. My opinions aren't based on a belief that because of their race these women are more likely to consider this as an option. I'm merely saying that because of their social circumstances they're probably forced to consider it more. Whether you want to believe it or not, women from minority background are more likely to be at a disadvantage on almost all social fronts. They're being left behind by the system. Call it stereotyping or whatever you want, that's just the social reality.

where did you these statistics because they contradict what is empirically proven as fact...that is, the typical who gets an abortion is poor, unmarried and WHITE (my stats come from the guttmacher institute and a study published by vanderbilt u). perhaps you assume that in this instance that your own stereotypes of race (ie that white women are less likely to get an abortion that black or hispanic women) would some how be true

the center for disease control has also shown that the majority of women who get abortions are white

so perhaps before saying something that may be inflammatory, as broad sweeping statements about race often are, check your facts and not simply your preconceived notions

Ugh, I hate those liberal nutjobs on the view.

At least the other three didn't have to throw a hissy fit to get a point of view across.

What exactly is the difference between extreme right and republican anyway?

*counts to ten, takes a deep breath*

Are you serious? Do you have any idea of what the extreme right is? Have you ever heard the words "National Front" or "National Socialist Movement"? Do you know what they stand for? Seems like you don't.

Back on topic (well, sort of), while I'm not against the use of the morning after pill, I do believe that making it readily available might have a negative impact on how women deal with contraception. Nothing that a more effective sexual education can't change, though.

I LOOOOVE this. So, you read a study or two and thought nothing else of the data other than what was presented to you, huh? Well, that's what's so misleading about all these studies (and it's very easy for people to accept whatever they're being told) conducted by these various agencies - they tend to present raw figures only and neglect to convert these figures to take into consideration important factors, like, I don't know... the population size. Black people make up, what, 10% of the poplulation (of Canada/U.S)? And according to that CDC report you pulled up, 35% of Black women vs. 55% of white women obtained legal abortions in 2000. Do the math, it's not that hard. Still too hard? Okay, I'll quote the CDC,

The abortion ratio for black women (503 per 1,000 live births) was 3.0 times the ratio for white women (167 per 1,000 live births). Additionally, the abortion ratio for women of other races (329 per 1,000 live births) was 2.0 times the ratio for white women. The abortion rate for black women (30 per 1,000 women) was 3.1 times the rate for white women (10 per 1,000 women), whereas the abortion rate for women of other races (22 per 1,000 women) was 2.2 times the rate for white women.

Still don't believe me? Okay, well since you rely so heavily on data from the Guttmacher Institute, maybe you should pay closer attention to what they find here, http://www.guttmacher.org/pubs/fb_induced_abortion.html, and for good measure, http://www.guttmacher.org/in-the-know/characteristics.html. And to save you the trouble you didn't spare me, they found that,

Black women are almost four times as likely as white women to have an abortion, and Hispanic women are 2.5 times as likely.[7]

So really, maybe you should take your own advice and check your facts, again, and again, and maybe just once more to be sure you have them correct. I mean, honestly, you presented data to undermine my position when all it did was punch a few holes in yours.

Give me a break. It's called political sarcasm.

Ugh... nevermind. This thread is sprouting off into a dozen different directions, where one post in response to another, produces 5 more in response to the last. Next thing you know, people will begin accusing me of being a neo-nazi.

I never liked her when she started off on the View. My opinion about her is this: she doesn`t accept or respect anyone elses point of view on topics like the morning after pill, the war, and so on.....she`s a raunch republican, and I can`t stand anyone who think that their views are the best just because they belonged to some political and moral `organizations/parties.`

She`s boring....and she`s better off being the host for `STYLE FOR LESS` on the Style network!!

Why was my last comment deleted? That is so whack.

This ain't The View, honey. Get used to it. Bet you want a little dilation & cutterage, and a nice hug from Barbara Walters right now, dontcha? Well, don't move to South Dakota, because Barbara's arms don't reach to the high prairie. Start sewing up your cradle boards, is what I'm saying. Cheers!

I don't agree with her beliefs, but she stands up for what she believes in. That counts for something, right?

elizabeth really lacks tact and maturity.
There's nothing wrong with having a strong viewpoint but there are much more respectable ways of expressing them. She just looked like a brat.
and her whole argument was dripped with ignorance.
"if people want government to stay out of their private lives, then why are they ASKING FOR UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE?!?!?!?!!??!"
wow, whose words are she regurgitating now?
Those two issues are centered around TWO very different issues(privacy/secularism vs.taxing/right to healthcare) , yet when she says it, it's as if anyone who's for universal healthcare is also for killing babies.

Wow, I seriously hate this debate, and I hate people like Elisabeth confusing people by talking about it on television. I don't understand why we can't have some educated and composed people on television debating important issues, instead of a bunch of washed up tv personalities clucking around like idiots. And I don´t understand how it´s even potentially viable to bring "god" into the abortion debate, does it even make sense a little to base the medical decisions of a modern nation on a myth? I believe in the historical relevance of religion, in a role of maintaining and orderly and healthy society but I don't think it has a place in the government of a developed nation, particularily not one with a population so diverse as that of America. And then the end scene with the "couch cuddle" I can't believe such childish women are in a position to influence the women of the world. :yuk:

^^okay now delete these two 'cause they look silly sitting here since you deleted her last one...
