Man this woman inspires some bitttttter jealousy. That said, I like her.

She's rude and acts like an entitle snoot, yes that's something to be bitterly jealous of. I love when people make excuses for people like Olivia, as if being pretty, wealthy, well dressed, but an a*hole is something to inspire to be.

^^ We all know The City is fake :flower: There seems to be a discrepancy between the viewers' pov, and people who have actually known her and stated that she is quite sweet

Lmao at people getting worked-up over a character from a MTV scripted show.
It's like those middle-aged ladies at the hairdresser getting all emotional because Victor Newman is dead or whatever...

Who the heck is Victor Newman? Whatever.

Its also hilarious that people actually the its all "scripted" bs. Just because a few have met and stated she's "sweet" doesn't take away from the way she acts on the "scripted" show. MTV edits, but they also work with what you give them, she gives entitled beyotch, that's what they use.

^^ You are certainly entitled to your own opinion. I must say, however, that as a former employee of a production company, I can verify that all it takes is a few editing to shape a character's persona.

^Agreed. I know that they take stuff you say and put them into completely different contexts.

Found this Interview on InStyle!

Since the new season of MTV's The City began, it became clear Olivia Palermo will be getting more spotlight than ever, and deservingly so. Although Whitney's life in the big city is full of action (or mostly lessons in people's nature I would say), Olivia's world is not less intriguing. From her new job at ELLE magazine to high profile social circle she's been always part of - this always perfectly put together "It" girl knows exactly what she wants ("all of it") and she goes for it. That's why when offered a chance for an exclusive interview with Olivia, I was excited for the opportunity to get to know her better. Obviously, she is here to stay in public spotlight, in The City or outside of it.

YZ: It’s not a secret that reality shows do not always match the reality. How do you feel about your portrayal on the show?

OP: I know that people who watch the show tend to feel like they know me, but there’s a lot more to me beyond what you see on The City. I don’t think that the 10 minutes of screen time I get every week can really give anyone a true sense of what I’m like as a person. Whether its negative or positive, I think what you see of me on the show is a very limited aspect of my life and my personality.

YZ: You and Whitney don’t seem to interact much this season – what are your relationships really like?

OP: Now that Whitney and I don’t work together, we don’t get to see each other all that much. We’re both really busy with work and trying to keep up with our lives outside of the show, but when we do run into each other it’s definitely very friendly. I’ve never had any hard feelings towards Whitney.

YZ: According to Joe Zee you really stepped it up during the last ELLE assignment – do you feel like you are finally grasping the job? What are some of the lessons you learned so far at ELLE?

OP: I’ve been very lucky to have the support of Joe Zee, who I think has one of the most brilliant minds in fashion right now. It would be hard to work with him and not learn new things every day. It’s been really fun to get behind the scenes and learn the background and the history and all the inner-workings – I’ve gained a whole new appreciation for the long hours and hard work that go into the making of the magazine.

YZ: It seems like you’ve won Joe Zee’s heart, but not Erin’s… What are you relationships really like? Is there more drama than we could catch on the small screen?

OP: My relationship with Erin has been challenging and I think we probably got off on the wrong foot. I felt like she had a preconceived notion of me and treated me with hostility straight off the bat. It was hard for me to walk into a new work environment where that was the case, just as I’m sure it was hard for Erin to adjust to the cameras coming into her work environment. It was a new experience for both of us and unfortunately, things didn’t go as smoothly as I had hoped, but I’m just doing my best to work through it. At the end of the day we’re both there to do a job and act in the best interest of the magazine. I’m doing my best to put our differences aside and move on.

YZ: Do you see your future in ELLE? Is this your dream job or there are any other fields you would like to pursue?

OP: Working at Elle is definitely an amazing job and a fantastic learning experience, but there’s so many different areas that interest me. I’d also love to try my hand at designing, maybe acting, maybe some other projects in the entertainment arena… Ideally, I’d like to try it all.

YZ: We heard some rumors about your new jewelry line. Tell us more!

OP: I can’t give too much away because its still a work in progress but I can say that I’ve been collaborating with one of my favorite designers, Roberta Freymann on some great jewelry pieces. It’s been a really fun project for me and I’m very excited for everything to be finalized.

YZ: Let’s talk about your personal style - what is your “It” bag for this fall season? ”It” shoe?

OP: My “it” bag for the season has been my Chloe Gemma bag and I’m loving Topshop’s grey lace-up platform booties. I think most people have already caught on to this but I am a huge Topshop fan. Designer Brian Reyes has a really beautiful accessories line – I love his classic pump in stingray and am a huge fan of his jewelry line, which is very reasonably priced.

YZ: Your hair looks consistently flawless – are there any hair styling/care secrets you could share?

OP: I just do my best to keep it healthy. I try to give my hair a rest from the heat and styling tools every so often by wearing it straight or pulling it back.

YZ: What are some things we wouldn't know about you from watching "The City?"

OP: Well, there’s a lot people don’t get to see. I think for the most part you see me in a stressful work environment butting heads with a coworker… and of course there’s a lot that takes place that eventually ends up on the editing room floor. Unfortunately you don’t get to see me with the people I really love and care about and how I interact with them, which is very different from the way I interact with most people on the show.

YZ: The show episodes are widely covered in the blogosphere. Do you read blogs? What are some of your favorites?

OP: The blogs and websites I read are more fashion and style based or news . I try to ignore all the reviewers and commentators who write about me and the show – it can really distort your sense of self. I think it’s important to just stay grounded and keep doing what you’re doing. I don’t like to read show recaps or anything like that – I was there, I know what happened.

And more... Yes I am a ridiculously obsessed Olivia fan. :p

Maybe they should rename it "The Borough." According to Gawker, Olivia Palermo, the annoying priss pot on MTV's "The City" is actually living in the bland Dumbo neighborhood in Brooklyn. Should that even be allowed in her contract?! Well, she told Fox's Good Day New York "It's a nice quality of life" and went on to compare it to London's Notting Hill and Primrose Hill. Not sure we're buying it, Oli.

Prior to her move out of the city, Palermo lived in a $4,150-a-month Tribeca apartment (with walk-in closet, left) that was featured in the New York Post's Page Six Magazine.

And other one... Okay, okay, this is the last one. I promise.

'The City' Boss Kelly Cutrone Says Olivia Palermo is 'Misunderstood'

Not everyone gets along with Olivia Palermo, including former Diane von Fürstenberg co-worker Whitney Port and current Elle colleague Erin Kaplan. Fellow mean girl Kelly Cutrone, Port's boss on "The City," seems to understand Olivia's iciness — but that doesn't mean she couldn't take her in a catfight.

"Olivia Palermo, well, I don't know if I'll be crossing paths with her," she told MTV News. "If I did, I think I would win."

Cutrone said Port's frienemy is surprisingly sensitive. "Have I met her? Yes, I have met her. What is my feeling about her? I haven't hung out with her lately," Cutrone said. "I think she is slightly misunderstood. But I think that she's also a very sensitive person that may escalate at times."

Regardless of Palermo's good or bad attributes, Cutrone wants the best for her. "My feeling about her is, I want her to be happy and well-adjusted," she said. "She's never done anything bad to me, so I can't go for the jugular on Olivia."

In other Cutrone news, she recently weighed in on who she would like to see play her (a.k.a. Fiona Chen) in the forthcoming big-screen adaptation of Lauren Conrad's "L.A. Candy." "What about Jonathan Rhys Meyers? That could be a really good crossover role for him," she joked to MTV News. "They would have to have black hair — they would have to be slightly on the mean side. I would like Cher to play me. I think that would be really great. She's ageless, and she has long black hair, and she wears all black, and she could be really mean."

To see what happens with Kelly and Olivia, tune in to "The City" on Tuesday at 10:30 p.m. ET.

I know it's an interview with Whitney but Olivia is mentioned a couple of times.

Success in the City: MTV's Whitney Port is the real-life Carrie and co

By Amy Williams
Last updated at 3:13 PM on 13th November 2009If you haven't heard her name yet, you soon will. Whitney Port is MTV’s latest star. She appeared in the hit reality show The Hills, which followed a group of young women battling it out on the cut-throat career ladder in LA. Then MTV asked her to appear in the New York spin-off The City, so she relocated to the Big Apple, landed a job with Diane von Furstenberg and became the star of the show. The City is already compulsive viewing for fashionistas across the globe – and take it from us, you’re going to want to make it your new guilty pleasure. YOU’s Amy Williams met the 24-year-old style queen to get to the bottom of all the bitching, back stabbing and boy trouble…

Doing what she does best - Whitney Port enjoys some serious retail therapy while visiting London

To people who have never heard of The City or Whitney Port, how would you describe the show and what you do?
I am a TV personality and I star in a reality soap opera that follows my life in New York City. So the things I do every day – going to work, having a drink with friends – are filmed and then turned into a TV show. But I’m also a fashion designer – I started my own clothing line last year by utilising all the opportunities and exposure that being on the TV show has given me.

What a gig! How on earth did it all come about?
It was by accident. Three years ago I heard that Teen Vogue in Los Angeles was looking for interns, so I went along to the offices and presented myself, and they were, like, ‘Yes, there is an opening, but you need to know that it will involve being filmed by MTV. Would that be a problem?’

To be honest, I just really wanted to work at Teen Vogue, so I said, ‘Sure, no problem!’ As well as the job interview, I had to do a screen test, and luckily it was a yes from the Teen Vogue editor and a yes from MTV. It was only when I turned up for my first day at work and saw Lauren Conrad [star of the hit reality show Laguna Beach] sitting at the desk opposite me that I realised what I had signed up for and that I had walked into a part on her new show The Hills. I was, like, ‘Ohmygod, what is this?’

A free pass into the world of a young person’s dream…
I guess, but I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into, and to begin with, when I was on The Hills, there wasn’t a focus on me, I just got on with my day job. But I became genuine friends with Lauren and I got to know the gang – Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt, etc – who were already well-known. But in terms of attention,
I just wasn’t in their league.

City chic, from left: Erin Kaplan, Roxy Olin, Whitney and Olivia Palermo

But then they relocated you to New York and gave you your own show.
I never expected this; I am the most drama-free, non-attention-seeking person out there. When the MTV producers asked me to do The City I said, ‘Why me?’ I am so not the reality-TV-show type.

Perhaps that’s what appealed to MTV; you keep a sense of reality about you.
And what’s a reality TV show without some reality? I think they recognised that I am a neutral person, that they could base The City on me and I’d be the solid one, the one that people could relate to. And I gave them a disclaimer; I said, ‘If you guys are looking for me to start the dramas, then I’m not that person.’

Lucky that they brought in Olivia Palermo [who stars with Whitney in The City], then…
Yes, she’s good at creating drama out of nothing. Olivia is a socialite and she can be difficult, cold and aloof, but I like to think that I balance that out.

So is Olivia for real or is she all sweetness and light when the cameras are turned off?
She’s for real. She acts like everyone’s the enemy and no matter how hard you try, it’s difficult to get through to her or become her friend. She thinks she is above everyone else.

How do you feel that so much of the buzz surrounding The City focuses on Olivia? Over here she’s the style crush of the moment.
Well, she has good style, I’ll give her that. And I’m happy to give her some of the buzz because it takes the pressure off me! And there’s no competition. I’m not like that – whatever makes the show successful…

'When MTV asked me to do The City, I said, "Why me?" I am so not the reality TV show type'

Do you read your own press?
Not really. I’ll see the photos of me in magazines, often in those style pages – ‘Has she got it right? What do you think of her new handbag?’ – but I never read the comments. I think if you read that stuff and take it to heart, you are taking yourself too seriously.

But doesn’t the constant paparazzi attention drive you mad?
I’m not so vain that I want to get dressed up for the cameras all the time. I’m happy to leave my apartment without make-up – I just put on some big sunglasses or, if I’m having a fat day, I’ll wear a baggy T-shirt and jeans and just get on with it.

Unlike Olivia, who looks so made up in the new series that she must get up two hours early to get ready each day.
I think it’s three hours, actually. But we do have to do our own hair and
make-up – see, it is all real.

You wear your own make-up, but don’t you get the clothes for free?
I get sent some cool things for free – I’m very lucky – but it’s not like MTV gives us a wardrobe each season. We do have to log all the brands that we wear because they get put on to the website after each episode – a kind of ‘Get Whitney’s look’. And it’s not all designer – Olivia wears lots of Topshop and Zara. You’d be surprised.

What’s your latest fashion find?
I have an obsession with tights. There are so many cool patterned versions around. I love the ones Henry Holland has done for Pretty Polly.

Yes, they look great on people like you, with legs to die for, but we’re not sure about the rest of us.
I think tights are great for everyone. You don’t have to do the patterned ones; maybe mix things up and try deep purple rather than black. It’s the easiest way to update an outfit.

'The most embarrassing moment of my TV career was when I found out that my boyfriend was cheating on me'

Let’s talk boys. On the first series of The City we watched you fall for and break up with Aussie musician Jay Lyon. It can’t be much fun living out a relationship on camera.
The most embarrassing moment of my TV career to date came when I found out from a friend that my boyfriend was cheating on me. Whoever you are and however it happens, that is a humbling, horrible moment, but when the cameras are on you, waiting for your reaction, you just feel pathetic and totally naive. And you wonder,
did the producers know he was cheating? It gets very difficult to
know who to trust.

Who do you trust?
I trust my gut feeling and my oldest friends. Producers are a different matter – you never know when they are trying to get a rise out of you.

So with Jay gone, you’re now playing the part of single girl
about town. Could you be the new Carrie Bradshaw?
Oh, I love Sex and the City, but I’m more of a Charlotte! I love being single but, however much MTV would love it, I am not going to go on a different date every night.

You could probably take your pick of the city now. Who would be your dream date?
Ryan Gosling. I don’t really have a type, but I have a big crush on him. Hasn’t everyone?

What would happen if you fell for someone who refused to be a part of the show?
Thankfully, I haven’t had that situation yet, but I can’t imagine how it would work right now. I just know I couldn’t keep anything secret as I have given the producers full access – I can’t get away from sharing a thing.

You’ve dated Americans and an Australian on the show. Have any British guys taken your fancy while you’ve been in the UK?
I wish! I’ve been far too busy to notice boys. But I’d be up for dating a Brit. I don’t discriminate.

You’re in London with your sister Jade – how does your family feel about you living your life on camera?
Jade has loved being here with me. We’ve done Topshop and stuff; even though there’s now one in New York, it doesn’t compare with yours. But sometimes I do feel awkward being the centre of attention. I’m the middle of five children and my parents have always been careful to make us equal. They are very grounded, so they’d say something if they didn’t think I was being myself.

THE WHITNEY ROUNDUP

FAVOURITE ACCESSORY?
I have a beige vintage Chanel bag that I take everywhere with me.

FAVOURITE DESIGNER?
Of all time? Valentino. His designs are so classic and beautiful.

FAVOURITE IPOD TRACK?
I still listen to Jay’s band Tamarama. But that’s because we’re friends and I don’t get the heart-wrench any more.

BEYONCE OR TAYLOR SWIFT?
Beyoncé.

YOGA OR GYM?
Gym. But I’ve not been for six weeks — I find it really difficult to get back on the wagon. Once I’m off, I’m off for a while.

CHOCOLATE OR CHEESE?
Dove Milk Chocolate Bars. It’s too bad that you don’t get them
over here.

BRAD PITT OR GEORGE CLOONEY?
Oh, Brad. George is way too old for me.

OK, BRAD PITT OR ROBERT PATTINSON?
Still Brad Pitt.

JENNIFER OR ANGELINA?
Angelina, but we’re talking purely on a looks basis, right?

THE BLUFFER'S GUIDE TO THE CITY
The second series of The City is on Sundays at 9.30pm on MTV. It is a spin-off of The Hills, which was itself a spin-off of Laguna Beach, the original MTV reality TV show, first shown in 2004. Laguna Beach followed the lives of teenagers at high school in Orange County. When they graduated, they moved to Beverly Hills in LA, and the cameras followed. The City follows the stars’ next relocation — to New York.

THE CHARACTERS

article-1225415-07188C91000005DC-318_87x84.jpg

WHITNEY PORT, 24
She is a nice-as-pie fashionista and the show’s star and narrator. During the first series she worked at Diane von Furstenberg, but has since moved to PR company People’s Revolution. Now single, Whitney wears her heart on her sleeve.

article-1225415-07188CB3000005DC-531_87x84.jpg

OLIVIA PALERMO, 22
She is the uber-groomed NYC socialite with an acerbic tongue and a wardrobe to die for. She and Whitney used to work together at DvF, but Olivia is now ruffling feathers over at Elle magazine as the accessories editor.

article-1225415-07188CB7000005DC-112_87x84.jpg

ROXY OLIN, 23
New to the cast this series, she is an old school friend of Whitney’s. True to form, thoughtful Whitney lands Roxy a job at People’s Revolution and a bed in her flat, but Roxy repays her by undermining Whitney at work and throwing parties at her apartment.

article-1225415-07188CBF000005DC-715_87x84.jpg

ERIN KAPLAN, 26
Another newbie, she is Elle’s PR director. All-American and super-stylish, Erin takes her work seriously and demands the best from her team, which sees her coming up against Olivia, the new girl at Elle, again and again…

THE PLOT
  • The City is filmed three or four days a week. Some characters, such as Whitney, are followed in every part of their lives, while others, such as Olivia, have contracts which state that they are only filmed at work.
  • The stars don’t receive a clothing allowance and they have to do their own hair and make-up, though they often receive gifts from designers now that they are celebrities.
  • Despite allegations to the contrary, neither The City nor The Hills is scripted, but the producers do plan each day of filming. They will scout appropriate restaurants, clubs and cafés, and the stars then go to the locations that are scheduled for that day. So, not scripted but not spontaneous either.

I know right! I couldn't believe Erin is only 26. I really like her, she seems hardworking and classy. Olivia on the other hand is really gross to me, she comes across as stuck up. I really don't think she is that fashion forward either, she has money, so she can buy nice things.

there is an interview in the newest issue of inStyle (Germany) with Johannes!!! ;) he's saying some sweet things about Olivia ^_^
