Pale Or Tan...

Depends on the skin type. I just look unwell being pale because I have sallow skin..so you get loads of dark patches on the skin and such. People with naturally pale skin are gorgeous...on sallow skin a tan looks nice and healthy so, either one.

Thanks for the info tinuvielberen :flower: All out of karma atm, but I'll come back for you ;)

pale. I have the palest porcelein skin and it think it makes me look so fresh, mysterious, beautiful in an doll-like,angelic way :) it makes my eyes seem brighter and my features stand out. And all those sheer whisper soft pinks and silvers look great against pale skin, especially with black mascara:)

depends on the person...... and hair/ brow color....

Save Face!

I have naturally black hair (Sicilian & Roman Italian- both parents from Italy). I have porcelain skin that is clear and big brown eyes. My pix is on the left, although it is way too small to appreciate. Anyway, I love being pale in a town that thinks being the most tan is the hottest thing. Just because I am Mediterranean does not mean I have to look what people think Italians should look like. There are plenty dark hair/pale skin Italians and blond hair/pale skin Italians from Northern Italy. There are also dark hair/pale skin Spanish and Brazilian women (which people confuse me for, as well). I think my coloring is great. I used to try and be tan, but never abused it. I would always get a base tan and deepen it with self-tanners. That was in my 20's. But now, at 34, I learned to appreciate what God gave me and make the most of it. When I was tan, my eyes and features did not pop. My eyes look bigger and brighter with light skin and my skin always looks amazing and ethereal. My nickname was China Doll. Besides all the health risks assocated with a tan, it just is not worth it to me to ruin my complexion and get wrinkles and age spots only to have to pay a plastic surgeon to laser off the surface of my skin. I wear SPF 45 everyday , especially on my face, neck and decolletage area. I am 34 and look 24. Most of my tanner friends look 5-10 years OLDER than they actually are. Also, all the previous posts are correct in saying that pale skin is more elegant and aristocratic..very polished.

^^ You say "all the previous posts are correct in saying that pale skin is elegant and aristocratic...very polished"? I don't know if "correct" is the right word here, after all this is just your opinion. No correct or incorrect. So what about naturally darker skinned people? Not quite as elegant and polished, huh?

I'm not trying to start a fight, but something about this post touched me.

CarolC, very well said! :buzz: It's great that you're one of the very few people who is actually happy with who they are. My opinion is that overall, people look best when they're not trying so hard ;)

^ I think that maybe CarolC was just pointing out that, contrary to popular belief, porcelain skin has its place. In a place like the United States, where every other person visits a tanning salon, I think she was just pointing out that light-complected skin is quite nice, too.

it depends on the person..some people over tan and they end up looking like an orange..while others are too pale that they look scarily ghostly. Pale skin like kate winslet is beautiful though...

To Gincat

I was not referring to dark-skinned people. I was referring to people who tan excessively and feel that they need to in order to look good. I love dark-skin and sometimes wish that I had naturally dark skin. When I see olive-skinned models or African American models, it is very pretty. I used to be a makeup artist for Lancome and my favorite skin tone to work on was olive and/or black skin because it picked up the metallic eyehadows and lip colors in golds and jewel tones so beautifully. With my black hair, I felt I could carry both tan and pale off and tried to emulate darker skin for a little bit. But, as you get older and wiser, you realize that you should just work with what you have naturally instead of fighting the current. And now, I get great compliments on MY SKIN...not to say that because it is light, it is the best. That is not it at all. I think it is the best FOR ME. Let me tell you that dark skin and light skin can be both polished and exotically sexy at the same time. So, my answer to you is NO, I do not think that light skin is the only skin color that can be aristcratic and polished..sorry if anyone misunderstood me. Everyone is beautiful!:rolleyes:

THANK YOU ERIN! You got the idea! Carol :D

I love pale... Tan would just look unnatural for me. I hate fake tans *shudder* orange is really not my colour haha

I hate the "fake-tanning" look, but I do prefer my tan in the summer than my whiter skin in the winter. I feel like I need less makeup when my face is tanned and for some reason it makes me feel slimmer. Maybe because dark is slimming?

I'm happy with my pale skin. I can't really tan, only freckle anyway, but I accept it and think it's beautiful (it's very pink--I rarely come across anyone pinker :p).

PS I have never used self-tanner or darkened  the door of a tanning salon.

imo chinese ppl look bad with a tan. white porcelain skin all the way!
it's interesting to note the trends in various countries. in countries like USA, Australia, etc, tanned is THE look while in Asian countries such as Japan and China (especially in HK) white skin is very trendy.

but i honestly like all skin tones. just as long as they are natural... and not forced. :)

I love makeup and face creams, but not ones that alter our skin tones. In Europe and North America, people are obsessed with bronzers and self-tanners, and in some parts of Africa and Asia, they try to look paler. All colors and shades can be beautiful.

funny to think one half of the world's population is trying to look like the other half who are trying to look likr the other half (if that makes sense)

^ yeah it does make sense. i personally prefer a natural tan, but i hate it when people just look orange :ninja:

I am pale, SO pale :( I like tan on both men and women or just a natural olive/darker skin.
