Piercings

I think its kind of silly that some people don't like them because they're "trendy" or popular. Tons of people have just plain ear piercings, probably more so than specialized piercings, yet its the specialized piercings that are too numerous and trendy? Doesn't make sense to me.

I like piercings just because I always have and dont care if its trendy or not.

Certain people look good with facial piercings...I know some people who look like they were born with it and look quite odd without their piercings.

I got 2 ear piercing, a ear cartilage, and a tongue piercing....I just never thought facial piercings looked good on me.

Why can't punk be chic? ;)

I have my conch, rook and bellybutton pierced (and I have a feeling I already posted this)

can someone explain all the names for all the different piercings please...thx

I think the ones that were so 'in' here last year to be totally gross, on the inside of the upper lip (whatever that piercing is called), so that when you smile people see a little ring over your front teeth. *shudder* That one for some reason really gets to me. Otherwise - why not. As long as it's YOU, and if you can handle the pressure when it's not suited to your environment...
The tattooist can have 20, and that's cool, but the daycare assistant has to really think twice...

Ok... I'm 17 and like, the only female on earth who doesn't have pierced ears. I've been avoiding getting it done for ages because I am horribly afraid of needles :ninja:. BUT I am also sick of not being able to wear earrings! So I think I'm going to get it done. I'm wondering, what does it feel like? Is it really painful? What if they do one ear and hurts so much that I can't do the second one! Ahh! Is Claire's a good place to have it done? It's the only place I can think of that does ear piercing  I don't want to go to some freaky tattoo/piercing place.

Oh, thats not painful at all! But I dont mean that you wont feel it, its just like a little bite. I've done 4 holes, 1 in my left ear, 3 in my right, plus I have an eyebrow piercing. I offer that you do you ears not with needle, put with a special gun- its faster and you wont even mention it.
:flower:

I got it done when I was 6 and I can't live without my earrings. It didn't hurt at all, either!

I got my first piercings at a doctor... then after that I got my other 2 piercings at the piercing pagoda..

6 more holes in my head! wheee!

claire's is alright. they use a gun which is better (less pain from what i've heard). it just feels like someone snapped a rubber band on your earlobe. go for it!!!! if you're scared take an advil/tylenol/asprin whatever before-hand. then go treat yourself with ice cream and a pretty pair of earrings. :P :flower:

Getting your eyes pierced would be rather painful. ;) :) :flower:

eeek do not get your ears pierced with a piercing gun at a place like Claire's. Not only can they not be properly sanitized (meaning that you can get Hep A and Hep B) but even if a place uses disposable guns a gun is too harsh for your ear. it literally punches a hole as opposed to creating a small 'cut' or what have you. Anyway this can cause things such as cauliflower ear to occur and is not pleasant. It's not weird at all to go to a piercing place. it's cleaner and better for your body. Plus, they have been trained and know what they are doing. I got my ears done at Claire's (before I knew about piercing and when I was little) and one of my ears is not properly pierced which means i always have to work hard to get one earring in.

^really? i have no trouble getting earrings in. when i first took the studs out it was a bit hard so i put them back in and wore them an additional 3 weeks and they're fine. just put them in at night when you're not wearing other earrings because the post is thicker and will keep the piercing open wider.

a friend of mine got something simular to this, it's really gross
he tried to gauge his ears on his own
now he is getting surgery on it

I have friends that work in shops such as "Claire's" and "Afterthoughts" and their ear guns are sanitized. You are not able to pierce anything without it being sanitized now a days. And the remark on Cauliflower ear, was that piercing done on cartilidge, because then it can occur. But this happens with pressure on the ear... not because of the needle itself... just wash it and keep it clean!!

Don't worry about the pain though, having 4 in my ears, belly button, and having had both nipples done, I would pierce my ears over and over again before either of the nipples.

um actually I can guarantee you that they cannot be properly sanitized because they do not use an autoclave therefore not all parts are adequately sanitized. the staff really do not know what they are doing. I would say that yes, 75% of the time, things work out okay, but do you want to be part of that 25%? And cauliflower ear can occur if you get the lobe done. Like you said it's pressure, hence a gun jamming itself into your ear creates a lot of pressure.

..hi..
heres an article for you.. http://www.bodyworkprod.com/dangersofpiercingguns.htm

I wont flood your board with articles, just thought it was something good to read.

I personally can say my first set of hole and my first set in my cartilage were done with guns those took much longer to heal, were red as beets for a good week, and the ones in my lobes i have to move the post around to find the back hole.. the ones I had done at the tattoo shop heeled up a lot quicker, and didnt hurt half as much .. just my 2 cents :P

There's risk no matter which place you're gonna get your ear pierced. Inform yourself on the techniques of piercing from a specific place before getting it done there.

And please don't trust small jewellry store who offer in store piercing. They use an ordinary gun that they don't even sanitize afterwards (because apparently there's not way the gun can touch the ear, and it's the earring itself that makes the whole  - as if blood wasn't liquid and couldn't leak out).

Claire's have the proper instruments to sanitize their stuff, and as far as I am concerned there are still a few risks because what they've got to sanitize is not as effective as places SPECIALISED in piercing.

I am a maniac when it comes to those things, when I had my ears pierced I insisted on cleaning the gun with my OWN alcohol before. I may have seemed dumb and paranoied but in the end it was pretty worth it. ;)
