We own a thread to some good classic trip hop!

Now playing "Beautiful" (twas featured on FTV on the "Making of the Pirelli calendar" with N. Knight)

My favs are Numb and Wandering stars, although I haven't heard that much of their music :)

:heart: :heart: :heart:
it's only you who can tear me apart, and its only you whoc an turn my wooden heart

Used to listen to Portishead at the after-after-hours party. Those fooked up sounds sort of make "sense" after being up for 24.

I love portishead too.. Just dug out my cd and h ave been listening to it for the past 2 days... I only have the one cd.. Do they have another somewhere? I wish another cd would come out

Here's something I wrote about 4-5 years ago. Not sure how good it is, but it's relevant to this thread;

Throughout our lives, most of us will go through good times and bad times. But when you're like me, most of those times are sour times. I mean, all you do is find yourself lost, traveling down different roads, cascading through this vast sea like a wandering star, wondering if any one out of this multitude... if any one of these different strangers you meet could be the one that you could call all mine. But then, in the blink of an eye, it's over, and you're left in the stark, unfortunately familiar solitude humming that same tune. That same mourning air breezes past your face with such a piercing cold that it leaves your cheeks numb. And you realize that the glory box that you once had has now just crumbled to cinder, as if it's a fire burning your heart away. You are then abruptly undenied all the hurt that you once remembered as you, in a feeble attempt at emotional self preservation, perch yourself back on that pedestal and think; that as little as seven months ago, it was only you whose western eyes I wanted to gaze into.....
- Oh well, now I sit, alone, half day closing, and all that I could think about is if I could just find that one, that other half........ - Oh, how it could be sweet.

Also, check out Beth Gibbons' side project with Rustin Man "Out Of Season", as well as Geoff Barrow's (the producer) side project "Mckay". Both must haves for every Portishead fan.

You guys ever see the live DVD from New York? F-ing epic. I lot of the more obscure stuff is awesome too. Look for the album Trip Hop Reconstruction.

I have that, it's really good.

It is,indeed.

I too am a P-HEAD. I have both "Dummy" and "Portishead" and their Live at Roseland album. They sound really good live. Their music you could always connect with if you were feeling a bit down and depressed. And believe you me,I was in a deep one at one time.

Beth Gibbons had a voice similar to Karen Carpenter when she sang more melancholy ballads.... very haunting. It worked well with that bizarre sound of their's too.

I think "Strangers" got played at the Alexander McQueen SS'04 show!
Am I correct?
