Prada S/S 08 Milan

i also thought that it seemed like a reinterpretation of art-nouveau, and the concept of ethereaity, i like everything, becuase prada has the power to flip, change, and distort fashion and i love ow se is consistently subversive, which always keeps er relevant and interestin imo
*Edit - please keep model talk in SC*

the shoes are so..."confusing", i can't help but think the design team was high...not in an insulting way though...

this hasnt grown on me at all, miuccia's magic hasnt worked this time...

And I am perplexed that on some threads, designers are criticized for *not* changing or innovating, and on this one, Prada is severely criticized for exactly that - changing her direction, by the same crowd.

since you suggested it and i have done this with marni et al....i personally,am not merely criticising on a change of direction. in fact,it's not even my points at all. its when Prada blatantly jumps onto something that's been done by other talents lesser than they--and established seasons and years before she even tries it--and tries to pass it off as her own doing. it's sad that they think they're so brilliant....they pat themselves on the back and then so many(not merely on these forums)give so much praise toward them. and ultimately,if she were so smart and brilliant,i still feel she(and her team,i'm meaning too!)executed everything very poorly. if they were so good, they would have never allowed such things to be exposed so clearly to some of us who do know a thing or two. truth is,they didn't because they were only after gimmicks so Prada could remain in the loop of fashion....relevant. it's the only explaination i can think of.

The combinations of colors (tights+shoes) are amazing. I'm quite drawn to the detailed shots. Otherwise, I'm really not feeling it. :ninja:

I just got a look at the shoes and bags. And it made me want to throw up in my mouth. Someone needs to tell girlfriend that those accessories are whoreanus (as perez would say). But I guess it is a nice was to top off an the rest of the ugly collection.

i have to say, that sort of brings us back to the old argument of "is anything truly original"? i mean, people are always inspired by SOMETHING, and if someone creates something from their inspirations from something else, can they truly call it original?? its a pretty grey area and i'm sure that if you look at every collection this season (or pretty much any season), or even art and music etc etc... you will be able to say that this designer/writer/artist ripped their idea from here and there.....it's neverending. i'm sure someone else has, in the past, already done what prada did this season, but perhaps miuccia prada is trying to say something new with her own collection. maybe she is saying "i dont' give a ****!"

as for the collection, i've only just seen all of it today but i'm REALLY loving the accessories! the watches are quirky but cute, and i LOVE the muddy-coloured clutches and purses. HATE the shoes though. i thought about it and i've come to the conclusion that if i saw the same shoes at ...say...nine west or something, i would just throw up all over them. i really like the colour palette as well as the whole psychedelic-stockings-with-chunky-sandals thing and i can see a lot of the pieces being very wearable separates. its just that the styling is loud and scares people easily. i think the overall mood is great---the whole storybook-acidtrip versus dark retro grunge..its such a mish mash of everything that you can't quite just tag it a generic term. but i like that.

I'm disappointed, especially that Miuccia had such great FW 07 season.. :ermm:

The backdrop reminds me of that secret wall in the classic Italian horror movie Suspiria. And now I'm thinking the movie might be the inspiration of this collection...
The movie had loads of amazing Art Deco sets, it's set in the 70's. I get the whole vibe from it by looking at this collection.
I'm also thinking that the skin tight body suits might be a reference to the ballet dancers...

Nothing is original now...This was kinna too girlie and too fru fru for my taste. Idk Prada may sometimes be crazy (last season's furry clothes) but this is just ...um... too literal or its just that its not that kinna untouchable coolness that she has had before. Its like a student project...it might grow on me MAYBE becuase last season I Hated it at first but now I love It.

Scott, You know me, ^_^ I really prefer it when designers move on, no matter how much their old collection was a hit - hence my criticism of types like Charles Anastase. I hope I'm wrong, but I bet he's going to send out another collection of little sad fay princesses with unfinished hem and "ironic" touches. Of course the core spirit should always be there - somehow CdG can send out very different collections each season but retain a CdG identity, such that you won't exclaim, that's so "Prada/Lanvin/YSL/Rochas", etc. like some other designers.

I just saw Rick Owens and that bowled me over!! He's changed, for the better!! I'm so GLAD he did, because he was looking as if he's stuck in a mode.:woot:

I'm really more sympathetic to Prada - she really *TRIES*, it's not fake. The one who personifies the awfulness of Prada Inc. is her husband.

The Art Nouveau touches has been done by everyone from Celia Birt to Biba, so I wouldn't say that Verhoven is an "original".

I do hate the shoes and some of the cardigans/jackets in this collection, but those beautiful transparent things...yum..

Not the best collection I've seen so far, but I think it has enough to seduce her loyal customers.

i've always felt that miuccia's collections have something to fall back on. if most of the ready-to-wear is disappointing there are always the accessories, but this collection, thus far, has 0 redeeming qualities..

The whole collection is weird, i can't image hardly anyone I know wearing this, but I still like it. There is something about Prada, I always like but can't explain what, maybe her ideas, color combinations or something.

Anyway this looks like more like F/W for me then sumer clothes.

i think its more construction/materials. if miuccia and her team took a brown paper bag and made it into a dress it would probably look splendid ;)
