Rodarte for Target

But doesn't that defeat the point of these capsule collections? They are supposed to bring their runway aesthetic to the masses at a lower price. Previous Go! Designers have managed to incorporate their style into the Target collections without compromising their main lines in any way. Why should Rodarte be different?

Exactly my point. I do not want a "cheap knock-off" but rather an INTERPRETATION of runway. I wanted it to feel, well, Rodarte, and this doesn't at all.

exactly. and if the reactions are indicative, people really were expecting a more distinct rodarte outing. i mean,i don't think anyone expected quite the level intricacy and texture...that would not be realistic...but at the very least they should have kept it distinct. they could have done some of their signature knits....i mean if H&M can knock those off so easily kate and laura could have had cheaper versions of them themselves.

there are 55 pieces in this collection so i'm still holding out hope.

I do have to say this:

I think it is extremely smart of Kate and Laura to have made this collection completely different from anything we have seen on their runway. It would not be fair to their clients to offer cheap knock-offs' for the general public. Their client's are paying a certain price to be a part of their world, and if all of a sudden, everyone can access this 'world,' and at a far cheaper price, they really would be betraying their loyal customers. And for a young company such as Rodarte, doing such a thing would be fatal.

If they were far more established, a collection of watered down runway looks might have been acceptable, but at this point, I think they were very wise to take this Target collection in the direction that they have.

you make a good point here. now i will try to have an open mind about the collection given this point of view. B)

This collection seems all over the place but I am still hopeing that by the time they release pictures of everything, well, there will be some pieces that might change my mind.

I am loving the new collection for target! My favourites ar ethe 2 black dresses. But its so unfair that I live in England, where there are no targets :cry:.

Overall I'm disappointed, but I like the sheer cardigan and the tights. Wonder if those sunglasses are part of the collection too...

I hope there will be some sweaters in the collection. Since H&M produced a knock-off of their sweater design from a few seasons ago, it seems like they should be able to mass produce it as well. Esp since it's a signature piece for them.

The fact that none of the pieces so far really seem to come from their runway design (except maybe the skeleton, but a t shirt really loses the innovativeness of the original design) makes you think that maybe that's not their intention. Overall, agree that it's kinda disappointing.

^^ thanks for the video. I like that leopard dress a lot better now that i see the three bows, which we couldn't see with just the pics.

That video was so frustrating. I kept thinking, stop talking and show us the clothes!

Moderator's Note:

Everyone got a sneak peak at the collection via some great sleuthing by some of our members here, who found pictures on other sites to share with you. However, we have been notified by the copyright holder to remove them ... they have not been officially released yet.

Sorry ... this also meant that the discussion about the collection must be removed. You may post pics again as soon as official press releases go out ... we are being told that it will be within the week before the official release on November 20th.

The December US Glamour has a picture of one of the dresses on page 136. It's the first thing I've actually liked from what I've seen.

It's a gold ballerina style dress with a lace-trimmed bodice and a mesh top with a bow on both sholders. The bottom looks like tulle and also has a lace trim. It retails for $40 and is really quite lovely.
