the collection is absolutely dated
exactly because it's a piece of cake for all the 'kates' out there,

This is quite possibly the biggest letdown I've ever experienced as far as designer debuts. There's nothing, NOTHING about this that's remotely interesting, or exciting, or distinct quite frankly. It's Saint Laurent by the books, and honestly I was expecting not only more, but very different from Slimane. Save for the tailoring, which is nice if a little unremarkable, there's nothing about this that says Slimane at all. It's all styling, an upscale Rachel Zoe collection.

Someone else said it but there's very little in the way of actual design here.

I feel the hype overshadowed his debut, the house should have stayed immaculately silent and threw everything at us all at once, with the re-branding, the whole 'new concept' for the brand.

I think Hedi was also trying to stay in safe grounds, trying to please the 'master' so to speak, and that master would be Pierre Bergé who was front row, the concept of the show was very outdated for the period of time we're in at the moment, had this been executed a few seasons back it would have been acceptable but at the moment in the minimalism design is in at the moment with architecture, fashion, technology and so forth it doesn't really reflect the times we're in.

I feel Hedi was possibly looking at all of the 70's icons/bad girls such as Anita, Marianne & Britt, which in retrospect is quite fascinating, but the execution was not.

The frills and the color palette sticks in my throat the most, I was expecting something monochrome, masculine/feminine, Michael Jackson/You Rock My World etc...

I don't like when people have to go into the past in terms of previous designers, but I still don't understand why they replaced Stefano when he was doing a pretty stellar job at Saint Laurent, in my opinion anyway, his collections were successful in sales and editorially, his accessories were best sellers around the world and pretty iconic and he earned a great deal of profit for the brand with collection after collection being a hit, the collections had vision from the beginning but still retained the Saint Laurent identity, but he didn't murder the concept from the beginning, he referenced it subtly... Hedi took the concept of Saint Laurent too literally.

I have to say I am pretty let down by his womenswear debut, he should of stuck to designing menswear.

I don't think this collection is as bad as some people are making it out to be, but I don't think it's that great either. I think it's an average collection by a designer who likes to play with hype. I've always thought that Pilati was amazing for YSL, and this collection hasn't really changed my mind at all.

I for once think most of this collection is pretty suitable for all ages. The jackets, pants, shirts, accessories and most of the dresses will look good in both mother and daughter.

as i was looking at this collection on style i was thinking to myself
"i know the people on TFS are tearing this a new one..."
and of course i was right lol. this is soooooo boring. i feel like all black for spring is extremely blah. If all the classic YSL pieces made a comeback did slimane actually design anything?? maybe he didnt...maybe they had this collection brewing while they negotiated his contract and so fourth.

they thought they had to water down
so they watered down with an over estimated hyped 'designer'

I am already drinking on his behalf here . But in all seriousness, I still feel bad that Stefano left but I think his new position at Zegna is more exciting (no Pierre Berge bothering him). The funny thing is that Stefano produced YSL's best result in almost 16 years just before he left.

This collection will sell because it will be marketed by Hollywood celebrities [which Stefano was not really keen on except for the occasions where he dressed Kate Winslet and Kathryn Bigelow (which were stellar BTW)] so I don't think the share holders will have any problem with this. The problem now is that YSL (Saint Laurent) will just be one of these over hyped brands with a star designer that wouldn't be special any more. That's what Stefano did for the house. The women who wore his clothes were on another level, a whole different league. I will really cherish my Pilati pieces forever!
