San Francisco Shopping

I'm heading to SF in 3 weeks...I wish they still had some of the Stella McCartney stuff...but its sold out already, no?

I'll probably head out there after christmas.. how crowded is the store actually? I found myself at the mall today and I just remembered how much I dislike huge crowds.

Wow! I'm surprised at all the Davis people too. I'm a 4th year though so I'm graduating this coming spring. Yay! Finally getting out of here. :D

As to H&M's supposed bad quality... yeah, it can happen sometimes, but I contend Forever 21 is much worse. For the price and the styles they offer, I'd say H&M is amazing. Some people might see those lining up to get in as silly, but I was one of them and it was worth it. :flower:

I went in tonight and it wasn't that packed really. Lots of people but bearable. There was a great tuxedo jacket that I wanted to get but decided to just wait after x-mas since it's not that important. There weren't too many great things I liked because it all seemed too passe, trendy but luckily not like Charlotte Russe and such. The look and feel of the quality wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, and I thought the stuff in the guys section had some pretty looking clothes that I would get for the boyfriend. Overall, I'd go again because it's one of those stores I'd shop in but it's not a "I MUST go" kinda thing. Hope this helps!

some new stores coming to sf:

marc by marc jacobs: 2142 fillmore (opening in march)
juicy couture: grant @ geary (next to hermes), opening in july
american apparel: 348 grant @ sutter

it's rumoured that barneys is coming to grant @ post, next to kenneth cole...

There's already an American Apparel on Haight, and another in Berkeley. Do we really need that many? Even though their stuff is cool, I think it's a bit overpriced.

Is there any place in SF that sells Dior Homme or Vivienne Westwood???

I will be very happy to have an American Apparel in Union Sq., I hate going to the Haight, and the Marina is gag-worthy. As far as pricing, yes, if you compare it to sweatshop-made GAP apparel, AA is more expensive. That's part of the point.

juzuxel, I haven't checked in a while, but I don't think there is any DH in SF. Haven't seen (or looked for) VW.

i was in sf this past february and i randomly found an amazing shop in chinatown (of all places!) called nikko fashion. they carry really cute things that one might find in the japanese street style thread - cute and edgy. i found a grey tweed bubble skirt, a grey polkadot turtleneck and 2 amazing cropped tweed jackets. it's very affordable and the shopgirls are adorable ^_^

Nikko Fashion Store: Contemporary women's clothes, shoes, jackets and bags mainly hail from Hong Kong at Nikko. Most are at mid-range prices. 862 Clay St. between Stockton and Grant, (415) 986-8613

has anyone been to loehmann's in sf lately? i got a $100 gift card from them in the last flyer they sent me (yeah!!!) but it expires monday. I live in sacramento and the loehmanns here is so so. I'm wondering if it's worth the drive to sf, if there's anything good there.

Loehmann's is like an outlet, isn't it? I'd love to go to nanny Fines favourite store sometime... But seriously, what designers/brands do they carry? I'm not one to pass up on a bargain...

I'll be going to SF in a couple of weeks, working unfortunately, but I'd like to do some shopping while I'm there!

If anyone could tell me where I can find Comme des Garçons, Yohji Yamamoto, Issey Miyake and Prada I'd be grateful, because I probably won't have a lot of free time and will have to be efficient...

Any tips on uniquely American or vintage-not-to-be-missed shops would also be appreciated!

You can find Prada in Neuman Marcus on Union Square. I don't think anyone carries the Japanese for men there. Check out GimmeShoes - the one in Hayes Valley is the best branch. Walk around Hayes Valley in general - check out Nida boutique. That's all I know.

i live in Los Angeles and we're going to SF next month....what's the best way to travel? i was thinking train for the scenery but not too sure. Should we just fly?

I thought it's obligatory to drive on the scenic route by the Pacific ocean, no?

Definitely do not take the I-5 up if this is your first time going up - yes, everyone says it cuts the drive time to only 5-6 hours (depending on how fast you drive) in comparison to taking the 101, but oh my God, it's so barren and boring. So, I suggest 101 up, and if you need to get back down quickly, take the 5 back down - oh, and if you love steaks, I recommend a pit stop at Harris Ranch in Coalinga --- great steaks!!! I was told the "governator" flies down on occassion to the adjacent air-strip just to have steaks there.

Or if you choose to fly - take jetblue ($39-$49/each way with two weeks advance) or southwest (I believe it's currently $49 last I checked) into Oakland Airport and from there you can take the BART into the city - which is what I normally do when I fly back home to and from Los Angeles. It's hassle free - and you don't have to deal with traffic....

Thanks faust! :flower: I see you answered this 4 days ago, but I must've missed it... :ninja:

Well I'm not sure. I would like to take the scenic route but I don't like to drive and neither does my hubby. So I figure we could take a train and maybe catch some scenery while just riding the train...but I looked it up on amtrak and the ride is hoping on a bus to ride into the station. So I don't know.

The Loehmann's has a good selection of brand names, but there is very little size selection, especially of stuff you might actually want to have. It's near Union Square so worth a quick look IMO. 222 Sutter St.

There is a Prada store in Union Square. 140 Geary St.

I just found out about a newish store called The Archive at 317 Sutter Street near Union Square, you should definitely check it out. From their web site:

Established designers Ann Demeulemeester, Yohji Yamamoto, Neil Barrett and Costume National hang next to the extraordinary, new talents of Haute, Jan & Carlos, Icho, and Masatomo. In addition, The Archive features all of the accessories that complete a wardrobe, along with unique gifts for the most discriminating men.

faust, I daresay you'll like it as well.

Nida in Hayes Valley does have Commes des Garçons, at least they did last time I was there.
