Style.com's Top Ten S/S 09 collections

I don't really understand why Ralph Lauren and Dolce & Gabbana is on this list.

$$$$$$$ !!!!
with all the cash they give to every magazines they must be on the list ....
it's pretty much the same for Marc Jacobs .... he's the new Ralph Lauren .... so ....
$$$$$$$ !!!!

i don't care that much about this list, it's just to thank the advertisers ....
the top 10 are the new editorials ...

but i'm still suprised by the 2 outsiders (Ann D. and Dries) !!!
they've chosen them sooo damn well this season !

The only collections I like out of this pathetic list is Givenchy and Lanvin. Chanel, Balenciaga, Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs are almost always on their list, which just goes to show how biased they are, cuz they all sucked this season, except maybe LV (for once). Style makes it too obvious who they prefer.

i really don't get givenchy and balenciaga on that list. both tisci and ghesquière are wonderful designers, but they're collections were a bit ladida...
for me it always feels like a lot of things are coming together on that style.com list: what will sell, darlings of us vogue, some surprises that actually were really stable, good collections and finally those shows which managed to convince an unusually big part of the ever so different fashion fans.
i don't think that this is the list of collections that will define the spring/summer look of next year.
so, those points all applied to the list, i really think chanel, dolce & gabbana, the marc jacobs double and lanvin deserve to be on it: they will sell like crazy, they will look lovely on Reese Witherspoon and Keira Knightely gracing another cover, they all had a wonderful, coherent concept and i think have pleased the majority of the fashion world.
plus i can see soft pink, flowery skirts, shiny pajamas, bright layering and even brighter simple elegance definitely hitting the shelves at Zara and the broad masses...

The collections that truely desevred to be on there were Balmain, Emanuel Ungaro, Nina Ricci and maybe even Allesandro D. And of course Versace but Im just biased when it comes to that lol. But seriously these collections are hardly great. Givenchy was amazing this season but no where near the best of Tisci's work.
And what the hell is up with Chanel being on the list? The collection was a near repeat of the past 20 seasons. And where's YSL?

Dries and Ann are the only ones I agree with.
Lanvin was a disappointment, too repetitive

i liked the list, but i didnt like givenchy that much!! a collection that i really loved was Christian Lacroix:heart:

OH I'm so sick and tired of who they pick.

Its' the same EVERY SEASON!!!! Marc Jacobs is on there, Louis Vuitton, Lanvin etc etc

And I'm sorry but how in the WORLD did Ralph Lauren get onto that list? There is an acute but fine difference between 'classic' and 'boring and contrived', the latter of which describes most of Lauren's collections.

Where are Calvin Klein, Gareth Pugh, Burberry, Marni, Valentino, Stella McCartney?

And the biggest travesty of them all - where is JIL SANDER?!?!?!?!

DG???

where are Galliano and Lagerfeld to their own lines??

Sooo glad Chanel was in there!

It never ceases to amaze me when these lists come out how some people throw around these accusations that Style.com is biased or purely after advertising bucks simply because that particular person doesn't like the collection themselves.

Like them or not, Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton and Balenciaga are always among the most interesting, influential and progressive collections that are presented each season, and Spring/Summer 2009 isn't an exception.

marni should have made the list based on how they created. it was pure exuberance and optimism in a time of economic turmoil. it belongs there

its annoying when the same designers make it on the list every season. what else are we supposed to think other then them being biased

.. and Marc Jacobs is a carbon copy of everything else.

oh god, who made this? sarah "" mower?. please.

at least, they actually included Ann D and Dries, what a suprise....usually, this list is about smoking up the big names' behinds, so it is highly irrelevant for my taste.

i'm not crazy about their top 10. i did like ann demeulemeester, balenciaga (i'll always love balenciaga, but this one wasn't one of my top collections), dries van noten, and marc jacobs.

i don't understand why chanel was on the list. looked like typical chanel...boring. and ralph lauren...eeew!

I actually liked Prada this season (maybe the shoes did them in...)

I agree with Dries, Ann D., Lanvin.. the rest are eh...

Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Ralph.. I don't see what was so great about them this season. And Givenchy?? Those pants!!?! Still having leather/denim nightmares..

If people consistently do strong work, why shouldn't they be acknowledged for it? I mean, can you honestly accuse Balenciaga or Marc Jacobs of being lazy, half-a.ssed collections?

I'm not delusional enough to believe that money has nothing to do with most of these choices, but it's not as if they put Gucci on that list. That would be a case of Style basing their decisions only on advertising clout. And besides, it's not as if a lot of the people who throw those accusations around are complaining because they don't see the collection as being strong and individual. It's because they just don't like the collections, which isn't a fair enough reason to write this list off as b.s. imo.

I mean, I don't really like DVN or Balenciaga, but I absolutely think they deserve to be on that list.

I think it all comes down to personal taste, whether you agree or disagree to the list. It is only an opinion of a handful of ppl at style. So maybe some of us outsiders don't quite see eye to eye.

Whether like it or not, I have to agree that Marc Jacobs did deliver the strongest collection in years for his namesake label...Louis Vuitton in the other hand felt like a kitchen sink of a mess. Tisci did not measure up to the expectation for me, and I could not careless about Ralph Lauren or Chanel since there seems to be nothing new with both houses. Nicholas ,as usual, pushed the boundaries and strode miles in front of others fof his unique vision, whether hit of miss, love or hate, should be appreciated. D&G was misplaced here, imo, since the collection comes off like some one else's work, and presented nothing original. Jil Sander should have been there, for Raf's best collection for the label. His use of fringe is immensely fresh and particularly sexy, yet restraint and womanly. Ann D and DVN are very deserving on the list

I think the editors were lookin at 2 common themes , the futuristic warrior glamour represented by Balenciaga and Givenchy and AD , while that sort of laid back futuristic retrofitted 20s and 30s silhouettes seen at DVN , Marc Jacobs ,Lanvin , DG and LV . I personally thought this list wasnt that biased usually they put Prada and YSL without thinking , their collections sucked this season. MJ and LV are similar but different , I love both and so do the editors so whatever to who says only one should be chosen lol

Thank you for making the point I was trying to make much better than I did.

Basically what I was trying to say is that I got the sense that some, but not all of the people who were deriding the list as a joke were doing so simply because they didn't like some of the collections. Obviously there's nothing wrong with that, but with something like this I feel like it's best to try to separate from your personal taste and be more neutral in your judgement of whether or not something actually deserves to be on this list. It's a completely different thing if you're just saying that you don't like the choices.
