US Vogue April 2014 : Kim Kardashian & Kanye West by Annie Leibovitz

Why on Earth do you get one of the most voluptuous women in entertainment (I don't really know what else to call it) and put her on the shape issue in a wedding dress? And worse, you know they are both megalomaniacs who absolutely live for this would have worn and posed in any manner imaginable and yet you shoot them in the most boring way possible. It's not like Kim wouldn't be game for absolutely anything after seeing her awful editorial in Carine Roitfield's magazine. I just feel like they had a really missed opportunity since you already know the reaction was going to be so diametrically opposed. Which I think says more about how Vogue actually feels about women of all sizes considering that most of their cover stars without the Hollywood standard figure are shot from the bust up (see Adele, Lena Dunham...)

Secondly, Annie Leibovitz should be ashamed. I used to work at a local portrait studio getting my start in photography and even we did better wedding couple shots than this. Also, I agree with Psylock, I feel like even though this is a women's magazine, Kanye is the actual talent here, without whom Kim would not even be on this cover. Yet he is somehow playing second fiddle to her here. At least W Magazine seemed like they were making a statement using her. this could have been such a memorable cover and yet looks like a bridal magazine. for shame.

However, I can't wait to see the Mindy Kaling and Emily Blunt features!

Is this why she dyed her hair dark again?

And when I saw this first off this morning I did think it was for a bridal magazine until I realised. They could of done something out there, something different, but they made it all cutsey with the focus being on bridal. It's almost like Anna was playing it safe with the bridal theme.

Wasn't Anna opposed to the idea of putting kim on the cover? what happened? did she secretly get $$$ for this? I guess it's a nice cover but I'm just curious how this will work out

OMG this thread is GLORIOUS :P

First I have to say I'm offended about people slagging off the Spice Girls. Excuse me but the worlds biggest girl group of ALL time deserved their cover. How dare they get compared to Trump Wife No 3. I also agree with others whether you like Lena or not she is an actress with a TV show that is relevant and yes I agree it would be fantastic for Kerry Washington and Lupita to be on the cover. Hopefully this will happen.

Second cover stars have never been the most important thing for me it's the contents inside that counts. And I have to say thankfully Kim doesn't look trashy here. Kate Upton looks gorgeous especially the shot of her in the blue dress.

And third can we please not sl*t shame. Just cause someone has a sex tape doesn't mean they are a sl*t (Why don't we see anyone slagging off Colin Farrell who has a sex tape and a few GQ covers? Oh that's right cause men are held to different standards than women). Plenty of celebrities have controversial love lives and had a Vogue cover. I could mention names but then I don't want to sl*t shame.

I believe she was initially against the idea of having KK on the cover.

(also, didn't realise how many times I said bridal in my previous post - long day!)

Anna says it was all "our" (vogue) idea
The rumors were true!

Though Kim Kardashian was reportedly considered persona non grata by Anna Wintour and Vogue magazine in the past, here she is on the cover of the magazine's April issue alongside fiance Kanye West.

Wearing a gorgeous white gown reminiscent of a wedding dress, the reality TV star looks stunning on the cover -- sporting dramatic makeup and her hair pulled back. Kanye can be seen holding her from behind in the photo, taken by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz.

The cover reads "Kim & Kanye, Their Fashionable Life and Surreal Times," along with the hashtag "#WORLDSMOSTTALKEDABOUTCOUPLE."

Though they had a rumored feud, Wintour defends her decision to put Kim on the cover in her Editors Letter.

"Part of the pleasure of editing Vogue, one that lies in a long tradition of this magazine, is being able to feature those who define the culture at any given moment, who stir things up, whose presence in the world shapes the way it looks and influences the way we see it," she writes. "I think we can all agree on the fact that that role is currently being played by Kim and Kanye to a T. (Or perhaps that should be to a K?)"

"As for the cover, my opinion is that it is both charming and touching, and it was, I should add, entirely our idea to do it; you may have read that Kanye begged me to put his fiancée on Vogue’s cover. He did nothing of the sort," she continues. "The gossip might make better reading, but the simple fact of the matter is that it isn’t true."

"There’s barely a strand of the modern media that the Kardashian Wests haven’t been able to master, and for good reason: Kanye is an amazing performer and cultural provocateur, while Kim, through her strength of character, has created a place for herself in the glare of the world’s spotlight, and it takes real guts to do that."

In any other situation, I would fully agree with you. But here, we're talking about a woman that LITERALLY made a public name and "career" (whatever that is) for herself and her family out of a sex tape. They always acted like it was the best thing that ever happened to them. So yeah, they do have a point with that shaming.

I heard rumors that the world is soon coming to an end and this cover just proved the theory to be more true. I must say, from this point on NOBODY on this forum better make a stament saying "______ is not Vogue 'material' to be on the cover...." like they do every single month.

So yeah, they do have a point with that shaming.

sl*t shaming is never okay. Sorry it's just unnecessary. (As unnecessary as the repeated opinions and text book comments declaring their hate for Kim here.)

With interesting and hard-working beautiful women in this earth like Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Lupita Nyong'o, Kerry Washington, Victoria Beckham (who I think it's the most deserving one, she fought hard in the fashion industrie to made her brand a real one), also Julianne Moore (who has a film coming out and she is the most beautiful and intriguing/interesting actresses for many years now, plus she has great style!) It's really a shame!

p.s. social media is really burning, the facebook comments are hilarious!

YOU ARE F******* ME?...

Really, this nightmare is truth... I totally lost my respect of Anna, to put these two on the cover & to sell more copies.

Can't believe than West & Kardashian are on this magazine, i mean how Kanye paid to Anna... to choose Kim as the covergirl.

Their don't have an brillant career, one side, Kayne things is the "best rapper ever", but he made many mistakes, for example: "he said it than the president Bush hate black people", than means than Mr. West want to get more fans or whatever & the other is the "infamous" apperance on the MTV VMA'S in 2009, when he interrupted Taylor Swift & said "Beyoncé is the best of the world", that's so rude for him.

In the other, have Kim, who's famous for her sex tape & her mom manage it. After that give her a really show... who show the ordinary day of Kim & her family, the real thing is all them... are stupid & their pose as an monarchy family, really them aren't that type of an generation.

SHAME TO ANNA!... ABOVE KAYNE!... TO PAY THIS COVER.

R.I.P US VOGUE

I don't care about her sex tape. And this has nothing to do with people being snobs. I just can't understand how the same magazine that has had covers with iconic women such as Meryl Streep, Oprah Winfrey and Cate Blanchett can give the cover to someone as talentless and attention-seeking as Kim. It's quite self-contradictory and disappointing(with an equally disappointing cover photo). There are so many relevant women with significant contributions to the cultural zeitgeist yet she's the one to get the cover. Of course you're gonna get controversy with a cover like that for reasons already stated but controversy doesn't always push boundaries. Sometimes it's just controversy for the sake of controversy; and this is definitely one of those times.

Anyway I'm done with this.

Kate looks really beautiful and sleek in her editorial. Mario did a great job with her. I wonder about the rest of the content of this issue.

OK, I shall leave my comment in this epic thread in tfs history. lol

Basically, I don't have much feeling about this cover. It's alright but not suitable for a shape issue theme.

I am for putting talented and inspiring figure on the cover so this is definitely lower the standard of Vogue, again. Next time when I see someone who I don't think is suitable as a Vogue cover material, I'll think "they already had Kim on the cover".

Also I do think Vogue should be the forerunner on recording culture & history. However, I'm wondering if Kim & Kanye & their "story" deserves to be treated as something valuable to feature in such a "high-end fashion bible" (as they call themselves) magazine like Vogue.

I hope this time they reach the lowest line and will bounce up from the next month on (which I sincerely doubt however).

Still, I'm waiting to see the fashion editorials inside this issue.

ahhhhh I have to put my name in this thread despite I really have nothing to say but disappointment only because it's gonna be a legendary one..

I knew as soon as I saw the post in the cover rumour thread speculating she would cover Vogue soon that the tears would be flowing. You did not disappoint.

She looks amazing.

I can only imagine what Kim was like when she got the call that she was wanted for the cover of Vogue (of course ignoring the rumors that Kanye bought it for her).

Now I would love to see her face after reading all of the negative comments about unsubscribing etc. Classic, I bet. I mean, is there one good comment on Vogue's FB page? I can count the good comments on this tFS thread with one hand.

Onto the cover, I can not stand their hand placement! I'm surprised not many have mentioned it. They look so awkwardly placed. Oh, can you see my diamond enough from this angle? And that hashtag...not even going to go there. This is probably the only magazine thread where I have taken the time to read every single comment.
