US Vogue August 2013 : Claire Danes by Annie Leibovitz

This cover is probably the ugliest thing I've seen in ages. Her face looks terrible, and she's a pretty girl so I don't understand how they managed to do that.

Ugh. When I read the title I got so excited. Alas, the cover doesn't live up to its potential. I don't mind the picture neck down, but the face looks very strange. The shape, the expression, the position are all so awkward and unflattering. The all white text is too obnoxious and distracting.

I dont know but I find this super lazy.
The cover is just another simple half body shot with a green backrop and the editorial looks like still from Homeland. Couldnt they have done something a little more special? Its Vogue after all...

What a shame the cover and editorial are so lackluster.

that's a bad cover -_-, i only like the complimenting colours wich give a good autumn vibe
Claire's expression is weird & she looks as lifeless as that awful senseless backround.
That coat is so ugly  even Daft Punk can't help here......what a mess!

the ed is okay, but where's the connection to the cover

So surprised to see Claire on the cover! I'm glad she's back on the cover of Vogue after 15 years!

Love that Claire Danes nabbed a second cover, only wish they had a picture or two where she was smiling, she has one of those smiles that are so warm and friendly looking that it's a shame not to use it! Also like the way she was styled on the cover, always love a classic trench.

I get that this is a character editorial, but her cover shot is literally a straight up Carrie-I'm-on-a-million-pills-and-just-had-electro-shock-therapy vibe. A faint knowing smile (or any sort of vaguely positive expression) would have completely transformed this cover.

Though I love the choice of Claire for the cover; a talented and intelligent woman, not a silly Hollywood bimbo!

She looks so old for an Age Issue, which is supposed to be joyful, imo :judge: I couldn't be more excited for the cover choice, though. She really deserves it.

I agree, the spread reeks of Vanity Fair. I love Vanity Fair, but we don't need another one, and we certainly don't need US Vogue to become its twin.

Specifically it reminds me of the spread that Leibovitz shot of Jon Hamm and January Jones, way back in 2009. Only that one, was better done and more convincing:

After some great issues in a row, this is just: booooo!!! And a serious waste of Claire Danes who should have gotten a better cover and her own spread.

I enjoy the story inside more than the cover. Annie is the perfect photographer to capture the crime drama sort of mood!

Any ideas that Vogue uses All Caps type?. It looks too serious. And this cover, is eww. it's more like a CountryHousewives magazine than Vogue.

That background is so fake!! The editorial is lovely though

I love it. How refreshing to see a cover star that you can tell from just a glance has an IQ > 120.

Not to knock her, but since when do they put tv actors on the cover?

I LOVE that she's on the cover, but I don't like the actual photo. Even the editorial photos are all kind of grim. They could have done much better with her!

Not to knock her, but since when do they put tv actors on the cover?

They've always been open to putting the very biggest tv stars on the cover of Vogue, especially if they also do movies or have some crossover appeal. Debra Messing, Sarah Jessica Parker, Blake Lively, Oprah Winfrey have all had covers. Jennifer Aniston's first cover was during the height of Friend's popularity as well.
