US Vogue February 2021 : Kamala Harris by Tyler Mitchell

I love her and it's great that she got the cover but the styling is soooooooooooooooooooooo not Vogue-level. I'm embarrassed for Tonne or whoever styled this mess and NO HEELS??? I'm dying just by looking at these shoes for someone as important as her and moreover for the freaking cover of American Vogue. Kamala was dressed was way better in other events or when she was talking to the US citizens recently than here, it seems that they just told her to come and did her makeup and styled her quickly and she had to go to take a place. COME ON!!! :judge: It's not serious Anna or Tonne or whoever did that styling. I hope there are other covers or better shots from the cover story.

Having said all of this: CONGRATSSSS another great women on the cover of Vogue and yes she happens to be a top politician and a black woman but this to me does not matter, what matters is who she is, what she stands for, how she talks to these nasty Trumpers and so on  America is in great hands NOW.

ps: this photographer has no business at Vogue or any Condé Nast magazine I am sorry, nothing against him, he just does NOT have ''it''.

Even if they wanted that laid back casual vibe there was a better way of doing it. The colours, composition, expression etc are all wrong and random, i most likely think this is fake unless her team wanted to go with the approachability spin which Anna wasnt that conversant with.

Exactly. I've seen some user's comment on how it's good because it's relatable but relatable can be done better than converses and old fabric. To be relatable doesn't mean the magazine has to compromise what it stands for. Maybe that's the problem...Vogue doesn't know what they stand for anymore. Horrible cover.

The second cover with the powder blue suit is so much better. It’s not great but at least I think I can give it a pass given that it’s UK Vogue...

Kamala famously wears Converse sneakers with suits. I’m not saying I think the look is necessarily Vogue-worthy, but it’s not a stylistic affectation on Vogue’s part. The twitter noise around this is INSANE, everyone attacking the image as racist (saying they made her pose in front of fabric evoking a watermelon, when in reality those are her Black-founded sorority‘s colors!) and saying things like “Proof Anna doesn’t work with any Black creatives” meanwhile it was shot by a Black photographer! I don’t even like this cover but the discussion around it is beyond ignorant and really kind of disgraceful.

I don’t think Kamala’s team didn’t demand photo approval of the cover. I mean, is the VP of the US not another one. The creative team involved is responsible of this kind of mess (I actually like the cover, because of what represents) I guess Tyler Mitchell and and Gabriella K. just because of what it means: the first VP is a WOC photographed and styled by POC. Imagine if the first view of the cover were on Vogue’s IG instead of ebay (obviously with the POC narrative in the caption) the people would be overhyping this.

LOL at Twitter basically forcing Vogue to release the official covers on a Sunday afternoon, they probably couldn't stand the hate the 1st cover got.
And Gabriella basically praising her own work and trying to contain the critics.

Ah, the power of social media!

The 2nd cover is definitely more “safe” and “traditional”.

But if Vogue’s intention is to release a cover that gets people talking whether good or bad, then the 1st cover definitely does better job.

I remember watch or read somewhere that Anna said one of her Vogue’s goal is to release pictures or photos that get people saying “wth is Vogue thinking??”. I forget where though, maybe someone can bring it up lol

The 2nd cover is better, should have been the only one but I'm still underwhelmed by the styling. GKJ knows better and should've pushed for more.

... and saying things like “Proof Anna doesn’t work with any Black creatives” meanwhile it was shot by a Black photographer! I don’t even like this cover but the discussion around it is beyond ignorant and really kind of disgraceful.

I guess it's because they didn't know Tyler shot it, something we knew because, obviously. This is why Vogue should plug that Ebay leak because if everything went according to plan and the cover dropped tomorrow, everyone would have known it was shot by Tyler.

As for Tyler, he finally got some raw, uncensored criticism of his work not coming from tFS for a change, and I'm sure he saw all of it. LOL. That's both hilarious and macabre in a way.

Composition-wise it’s much better but she still looks stiff there. Her Elle cover has this accessible charm that Vogue failed to capture.
