US Vogue June 2013 : Kate Upton by Mario Testino

I have nothing against Kate, I think she´s an excellent comercial model. That said, I think it´s hillarious and a bit insulting to call her "the hottest supermodel on earth".
I like it... imo the styling is just right and it´s nice to see a model on the US cover that´s not Gisele nor Kate.

If they were going for hottest supermodel I think the obvious choice would be Candice....
But considering Kate actually doesn't look that bad.

I love it, it's completely perfect for the summer. She looks beautiful and as the perfect All-American girl. It's so 90's I can barely take it, it's perfect and I love everything about it.

Haters need to stop it with the 'she doesn't deserve it'. Excuse me but exactly what makes a model/celebrity deserving of this cover? Last time I checked all Lady Gaga did was some stupid scandals and sh*tty music yet she walked away with the September cover and no one called her 'undeserving'. Kate might not walk runways but she has walked with almost every big photographer and she managed to do something no one has done since Gisele: people in the industry likes her and people on the streets love her. She sells those SI magazines like crazy and I'm sure this Vogue will sell like crazy too. Ask someone on the street who isn't a tFS member to name you three models who walked in PFW and they won't be able too, show them a picture of Kate and they know who she is.

Karlie, Joan, Lindsey, Freja, etc will NEVER be as big as Kate Upton is. So don't hold your breath waiting for them to get a US Vogue cover, it won't happen and people needs to deal with it. And I love my Karlie and Joan but it's obvious they don't have a cover under their belts because they won't sell.

I am really shocked Anna cosigned this, but I do like the cover and it's definitely a score for models who can turn themselves into stars with social media now.

The pic with the glasses is great, too.

Yes! We haven't even seen half the June covers and I'm satisfied this month. This is such a welcomed choice from American Vogue. I'm surprised Kate hasn't fronted the magazine sooner (better late than never). I just hope she fetches in the figures and we're treated to a few more model appearances. It's like Christmas morning whenever a model fronts American Vogue and I'll relish in it, no matter what the direction. They've taken the right direction here and Kate looks terrific. The editorial pictures are a delight, so natural and refreshing to look at.

On a different note, I think people forget Vogue is a business and are oblivious towards each edition's market. Kate Upton is one of these 'celebrity' models, like Kate Moss and Gisele Bundchen. She's regularly featured on gossip websites and various news websites too. People know who she is.. her name is everywhere and wasn't she the most searched model on Google? A potential reader will acknowledge Kate Upton on the cover whilst walking past and pick it up.. because they're familiar with the subject. The average person hasn't a clue who Karlie Kloss and Coco Rocha are. These are models who are known only within the fashion industry. Kate Upton is known beyond fashion, giving Vogue a much bigger audience which results in more potential sales.

I think by now people have already gotten it into their skulls that Kate does have selling power after its been repeated like a million times in her past threads with her as the cover subject. It's just mildly amusing to read the hyperbole of being the hottest supermodel right now and that triggers most of the reaction not her capability to sell.

big in what sense? public recognition? yeah the girl is big in that sense but has the girl moved any product off the shelves?

sorry but no model deserves to be callled supermodel if they can't move products off the shelves. this girl hasn't done anything and she is labeled as a supermodel. what a joke and slap to the face of real models.

What ? Karlie is a VS angel, Her controversial outfit made headlines everywhere and she also has a Tv show on Mtv. That Is called being is known beyond fashion for the right reason. Kate has no selling potential. She is wearing very revealing clothing and they dressed her like that to make up for her lack of talent. Michelle and so many other Vogue US girls would never agree to wearing something like that because they want to sell with their success and fan base (potential sales). Kate has non of that.

thank you, so true, it is and ever will be nothing more than business in the end, so all the whining can stop & nay-people should get back to business, because KU will not go away, she is a sureshot!

personally, i don't mind her that much, but it's very funny to read all the negative arguments and how people go crazy about her, as if fashionworld will come to end
i like how this whole thing (cover & ed) has turned out so beautiful and i'm looking forward to see this thread gettin 30 pages:ninja:

I think its hilarious and also a little sad the way people react to Kate Upton with such distaste. Calm down, relax and have a drink!

And I think its hilarious that if you dare say and state your personal opinion that you do not like Kate as a model or her cover youre being jumped on and labeled as a "hater". :innocent:

Everyone has different points of view and no its doesnt mean anyone who says they dont think she deserves being called a "supermodel" are haters lol.

I like Kate- somewhat, she is a good-looking gal ,seems to have a lively personality and it's nice to see "someone else with curves" however she is not even a model (fashion/amazing/hard-working) for me to being with. Came out of nowhere, risen to the fame thanks to social media, got vogue. Cool. Good for her. ^_^

But that aint gonna sell "Kate supermodel" for me, thank you very much. Now, if she really was that great at modeling, Id be the first to hug her. But alas.
Insulting seeing Vogue US putting this word next to her. Oh well, nowadays everything is possible. Everyone is a VS angel and a supermodel.

I don't get her, I don't get the "Supermodel..." thing... There is some beautiful photos in the ed, very Monroe-sque. So, there is hope for Kim (Kardashian) to get the cover... Maybe wearing somethind for her Kollection line! LOL... I don't hate Kate, I'm just like... WHY?! She is so not Vogue...

Kate looks gorgeous! And really at the end of the day, people in the industry (Meisel, Franca, ANNA FOR GODS SAKE...) like her! Obviously she isn't going to be everyones cup of tea due to the modelling she does but she is much more marketable than any other model right now at this moment. Someone mentioned no up and coming models being on the cover of Vogue US (which is like the most coveted Vogue cover out there) but I don't get why Anna would even consider that.. The main aim is to sell and lets be honest Kate will sell this issue within a heart beat. The cover is radiant and will look so beautiful upon the shelves.

It saddens me that people can't appreciate a nice cover just because that they do not like Kate, are people really that shallow minded entering a thread with preconceived misconceptions about the past work of Miss Upton.

Also comments such as 'She is not Vogue' I'm sorry but could somebody explain what 'Vogue' is to me then?

I honestly don't get why some people are raving about "seeing a model on the cover of Vogue". Kate Upton is much of model as Pixie Geldof, Alice Dellal or even Kim Kardashian. She's a celebrity, she doesn't really work in the fashion business. So yeah, i'm yet to be happy about a MODEL covering American Vogue.

She's so hot even straight, masculine men will buy this magazine.

Pretty cover of her Vogue cover debut, but the only problem than her looks fake, i mean the photoshop made to look many people unrecognizable & not is the ocassion on this cover.

Her ed is nice, very summerly.

Kate Upton got a vogue cover before oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence. Because that makes sense...

Does it really matter how she got started in the business?
Can you consider a girl working with Steven Meisel, Bruce Weber and Alasdair McLellan (to name a few) with editorials in magazines like US Vogue, Vogue Italia, CR Fashion Book and Muse (to name a few) NOT a model? regardless of how you want to label her as a model.

Is it too soon for a review? Any idea on the other eds?
