Valentino Pre-Fall 2008

don't they suit more YSL style???

the outfits are OK but nothing red is a huge PROBLEM for the pre-collection without Mr.Valentino!!

so how did she get this gig? i thought everyone was bagging her out at Gucci. She musta done something right, sales might be really well.

for his last rtw collection, out of 88, only 2 outfits were red, on the last resort no more than 3 out of 43... why should there be any here? it's a rather small collection, and if she had done loads and loads of red, i have the feeling that most people would be saying that "just because it's red, it doesnt make it valentino!" and the usual "go away alessandra!we want valentino forevaaa! facchinetti really sucks!" and so on...

Even though it has nothing to do with Valentino what so ever, I still like it as a collection. I agree with the person that said its similar to YSL. I like the solid colours and the structured shapes. My favourite piece is the second to last black floor dress.

i actually quite like the collection but it really isn't very valentino
but its a refreshing change :)

Its VERY beautiful, I'm excited to see what else she puts out. I agree though with others.. it looks like YSL

That coat is beyond chic. The color is beautiful, it doesn't look purely grey, sort of a mutant shade of truffle. I love the shape of the sleeves and the built-up collar.

I'm shocked by how many people are saying this is un-Valentino. To me that coat looks a lot like what Val does for his couture daywear, sharp, clean lined tailoring. I can see not really liking it, but Valentino doesn't only do ruffled Oscar gowns. It's even more shocking considering how many peopel complain that he's repeated himself over and over. This is a fresh take, but it's not Valentino enough....I'd hate to be a new designer in the position of taking over an established house, you're screwed one way or another.

That said, I don't love the long skirt/blouse looks. The colors are beautiful and I think the pieces styled in with different pieces in a less matchy-match color combo could work, but together they're a little overwhelming. The coats, for the most part, are the strongest pieces here. I can definitely see Pilati, a little too much actually, but I'm excited to see what she can do with a full 40 look show.

after seeing it all...
reminds me of zac posen or something.

Zac Posen? That's just EVIL....

No way! :shock:Zac is so much better! His cuts are more shapely and actually flatter women's figures.

I am pretty open-minded, but this collection is really not cutting it for me. A lot of the pieces have no shape and are just bland. Some of the models look like they're wearing potato sacks hiding behind the brand label of Valentino. There's a lack of color variety (even though they are nice colors), and while there are some concepts I like such as the sleeves, they are paired with a look which I don't find attractive.

In my opinion, it seems like alessandra was trying to hard to be unique. Unique is good, but sometimes designs are TOO unique and lose their appeal. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion of course. This is just mine.

An admirer of Zac Poseur. Enough said. That is why there is a market for everyone.
I don't believe it is possible to have a proper debate concerning an upstart socialite brat designer and someone who garnered a top position at GUCCI AND VALENTINO.
Moving on, I do think it an interesting and welcome development of having more women at the healm (both in design and government).
I for one am sick of the in-your-face patrimony of male designers (and that's coming
from the horse's mouth).
All to her.

I love the shoes! The lace up ones are nice, but I REALLY love the velvet closed toe heels! Those are really gorgeous! Especially the red pair!

I don't want to debate designers, but Zac's Pre-fall collection is one of the best I've seen so far. For me this collection was disappointing after Valentino's fantastic SS08 designs. I'm interested to see what Alessandra does with the actual fall/winter collection. I like to judge collections based on the actual clothes rather than who designed them.:flower:

I agree! I was thinking of how exciting it will be to have another woman at a major couture house! I am excited to see what she will present for her first haute couture collection when she does it. ^_^

I don't think I can get over the fact that there will not be any signature classic red... in her collections. That was such a Valentino classic that should remain. Because red is such a statement, which can be worn over periods of time, it WAS Valentino. His brand identity to me.

This looks very Pilati YSL , whom im not a fan of at ALL, but her choice of palette sucks and the clothes are a bit too gothic and dark , Valentinos women never are .

i dont like this at all; so not valentino

I agree with all of you who think this is really similar to Pilati´s work, to be honest this is probably not what one could expect from Valentino but for example those bell, rather Balenciaga bottoms of some dresses look like something she could have taken from the archives, since Mr Valentino has been around for so long, there are four decades in which he has interpreted his style with current trends, so there are millions of cuts and shapes to be inspired from, most of them, us the younger generation wouldn´t even consider it Valentino (hope I made myself clear lol).
For me Valentino´s magic lies on the details and I hope she understands that and would try to aproach the collections in that way, the little twist that makes everything looks new a fresh.
I also think that this is a pre-fall collection, very boutique oriented, as comercial as all the others designers pre-fall and resort collections and so they are styled in a comercial way too, so I think we should wait until the March show, but god forbids she turns Valentino into a somber, gothic house, even on his last ready to wear show, his models were dancing and having a good time, this house is all about superfluous glamour, and she should preserve that notion, she sould take the shoes from this collection as the starting point for the next one!

I have to say i like this, its a nice first collection for her,its strong and i love the fact that it dosent scream Valentino, that would be so distasteful(i actually expected her to go there)so thumbs up for now.
