I sort of appreciate what they were going for but it doesn't quite work out for me, it's very busy with the dappeling and the background, he's also in a very awkward pose and appears to be squinting at the sun a little too much..

And VA was doing so well -_-
I don´t know nor care about this couple but speaking about the image, it´s quite bad imo... specially his pose and expression. Is it me or there´s something wrong with the proportions?

Not impressed whatsoever by this, and I'd even say the cover is absolute rubbish! Testino's creditably and reputation as one of the top working photographers is totally lost here, since the shot resembles one of those cliché shots of a bridge and groom post-ceremony, taken by anyone with a camera - except both the Prince and Princess look more suited to attending a funeral here. Just very odd and low-budget looking! Not to mention how the Vogue masthead is lost due to the business of the background. Amazed to admit British Vogue done a far more superior job at profiling royalty this year.

Step it up, Vogue Australia.. standards are slipping!

1st question: What are Danish royals doing on the cover of V.A.?
2nd question: Is Testino the only photographer to be allowed to shoot Royals?

The Crown Princess is an Australian. The Kate of Australia if you will. 'Commoner' to future Queen. Quite the popular figure in Australia and undoubtedly this issue will be a huge commercial success.

HRH Crown Princess Mary talks about her passion for sustainability in fashion, providing a voice to the voiceless and making her mark as a true world leader.

The usual Vogue Australia cover stars — each boldfaced and relevant — are considered pop culture and style royalty to the millions that follow them. But for our August issue, actual royalty appears on the magazine’s cover and inside its pages: Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, who invited Vogue editor in chief Edwina McCann and fashion director Christine Centenera into the Copenhagen Palace they call home for an intimate glimpse into the philanthropy-filled, purposeful lives they share with their family.

Shot by Mario Testino, who travelled to Copenhagen with the team and celebrated the opening of his first-ever solo show in Denmark, the Australian-born Crown Princess discussed one of her most passionate projects — fashion sustainability — along with gender equality, her namesake nine year-old foundation and being a role model.

“I always find it difficult to speak of myself as a role model, you know, because I think it is other people and their impression of you that makes a role model,” the Crown Princess said. “It’s not something I consciously think about but at the same time I am very aware of my role and my responsibility.”

Going on to discuss sustainable fashion and the rights of workers in the garment industry, which was at top of mind as HRH opened the Copenhagen Fashion Summit just after the shoot, she said, “It will take time to create real and sustainable change. If we are talking about the textile and fashion industry, it is one of the most female-dominated industries in the world and yet many of these working women are voiceless. I do use the platform I have built up over the years as a vocal and passionate voice for the empowerment of women and girls and the protection and respect of their human rights to bring attention to this.”

She's the Cinderella of Aus. She was just a regular girl from Tassie of all places who met some random guy in a pub one day. He later turned out to be royalty. She is so highly regarded that even her best friend has managed to piggy back off her fame and become a prominent talk show figure.

Vogue Australia was doing so well with their covers all year! This cover is.....just not pretty to look at. It's too busy with the background and the AWKWARD "turnaround and smile" shot. It's so cheesy and very wedding day like.

Happy for her to get the cover though! Would have been better if she was alone.

Awfull .. time to retire

Looks like a photo made with his mobile + some instagram filter + some photoshop

And where is her shadow ...

God, the cover is awful! Very cheap, like some papparazzo caught them en route to a gala. I literally thought it was an editorial preview until I saw the masthead. Why does it fade into the background?
And it's not an image befitting a royal princess. One cannot even see the detail of the dress properly. They really skimped on their usual glamour here. I wonder if Christine styled this.

I can already see why this issue will sell in Aus. The fairytale type of entry will appeal to many, I'm sure. Only, the prince doesnt look all that dashing, I'm afraid.

I wish they would give this to Lindberg or Demarchelier and it would comes out gorgeous. This does nothing at all.

They're both attractive, but he looks much better than her here, and as this is her home country's magazine that's just not right.

I love "The Royals as the new mllennials" idea, this shot is beautiful, but... Why they?

Crown Princess Mary has covered Vogue Australia before. This was for the December 2004 issue, some months after her marriage. Shot by Regan Cameron. I'm sure the entire editorial can be found online.

The Regan Cameron cover was superb! Will immediately start looking for the edits. Love the rich colours and starkness here. The image has a faint Celtic touch, reminds me somewhat of a Máire Brennan/Enya CD cover. Thanks for posting Al92 ;)

They probably got Testino purely because of his clout with royals worldwide. Not bearing in mind that he's never managed to live up to that iconic Diana cover which resulted in this prestige.
