Vogue India May 2017 : Kendall Jenner by Mario Testino

^Having a Western celeb is not the issue. The issue for others is the fact that this is the 10th Anniversary of the magazine. It's an Anniversary Issue. They always celebrate with a group of Indian celebs/models, and now it's Mario x Kendall.

It is actually not the 10th Anniversary issue which both their blurb on IG and the title of the magazine did not suggest. Vogue India gave a statement to WWD.com. All of this cannot be good for Kendall's career...

A Vogue India spokesperson has provided a statement to WWD on its choice of Kendall Jenner as its latest cover personality.

It clarified that although the May issue is a special collector’s edition for the title’s 10th anniversary, it is one of several planned for the year and its actual anniversary arrives with the October issue.

“In the last 10 years, Vogue India has had only 12 international covers, including Kendall Jenner in 2017. Therefore, statistically, 90 percent of our covers are Indian! And we are proud of that,” the statement said.

“India has given the world so many beautiful faces to admire. After all, we are Vogue, an international brand, and we want to give the love back by featuring some of the best international celebrities on our covers. Occasionally!” it continued.

No. The issue is Kendall Jenner.

Putting aside that controversy, why is standing in the same pose with her legs apart and facing the same angle in 50% of the photos?

Because as I´ve said a thousand times: this girl has no range. It´s not about liking or hating her, what I feel, I think, people want to see, is a model who can offer changes, range, different poses and sell it. Gigi at the very least gives something and changes. But let´s not kid ourselves: we can´t compare girls like Natalia Vodianova or Coco Rocha or Raquel Z or Natasha Poly with instagirls. Everybody in this forum can agree on that at least. Then yes I know different times, different models, different ways of seeing the world and understanding fashion I guess. It´s just sad to see ``influencers´´ like Kendal with no skills to be where TOP girls used to be just because of her family connections and money. I know it´s the world of XXI century lol

Well... I happen to think those are some very beautiful photographs of Kendall (and a real credit to her portfolio). I'm not the biggest Kendall Jenner supporter but I do love the outcome of this Testino shoot and while I value everyone's opinion here, I personally don't understand the controversy. The cover and feature is beautiful, regardless.

In 16 photos, only in 5 of them she is posing that way but the position of her face is different in each of those pics... one of them she is posing with a male model...

Anyways, both cover and editorial are beautiful done... it shows how much she has improved from that first Vogue Japan cover...

Hhhmmm.....Vogue India brought in the big guns! Barbieri, Cortina, and Sarah Jane in one issue. Stunning coup. Maybe Cortina should stick to freelancing at Vogue India and Arabia. This is clearly doing him good. I quite like the edits posted so far despite the fact that Marjan looks a bit like Lucky Blue Smith. Also, 'Role Play' looks like a direct facsimile of an edit which surfaced about a month ago in Marie Claire Brazil. They did it better, and yeah, not very original from Testino and Barbieri.

^^^ They absolutely did bring on the big guns, even if the results aren't as impressive.

This issue comes off as an ambitious bid to compete on a world-class, high fashion level for sure-- albeit veering towards the more mainstream of high fashion (since Kendall can’t seem to ever move beyond her one mall-face and 1-2-3-pose motions. And the art direction here is so cheap and dire as usual.), then the typical Vogue India issue.

Once the Mario contributions are removed, Vogue India remaining contents are more or less the brand of direction that you would find in an in-flight magazine. It may just be possible that Vogue India wants Mario and Co. contribution so that they can add some variety, diversity and freshness, not to mention to attract the commercial attention of the rest of the world’s Vogue readers. Maybe, just maybe Vogue India doesn’t always want to just feature Indian stars and Indian models. You know, maybe they would like to be more inclusive of others— unlike these SJWs who come off more mean and racist, and so divisive rather than coming together (if I’m to believe someone is stupid enough to actually say that Kendall is “too White”… Would they dare say someone is “too Black”? “Too Indian..??? Frankly, I don’t think these types even realize that they’re segregating people and cultures rather than coming together. Not the brightest bunch. I can’t believe Vogue India has to defend themselves for this issue. They should be proud of it.).

BTW, there’s an editorial feature on the Indian star who’s also shot with Kendall, by Mario. I don’t know what the deal may have been, because Mario usually shoots men way better than he shoots women, but the shoot with this guy, is so hammy, so amateur… Such a waste really, cos that man is hot.
