Vogue Italia March 2022 : Donatella Versace by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott

Jacob K’s styling certainly was prescient.
The set design is a homage to Gianni.

Correct. The cover reminds me of the old Vogue Polska. It's not a groundbreaking cover, but it's decent. I'm happy for Donatella.

it’s great to see her but this could’ve been sooooo much better!

What an ugly cover...who is buying this?

I sure am, this one is a must have! Love the glamour of it and the styling, and I particularly love the thought of Donatella Versace on the cover of Vogue! All the right elements, Mert & Marcus luckily brought out their good aesthetic for this.

I love this. It looks a little supplemet-esque, but I'm not mad at it. I think the final shot with her standing in the doorway would have made a killer cover in colour. VERY different vibe, but that picture does make me think of that VI cover with Linda emerging from a secret door in the wall.

Her nose looks totally different than her nose. The only question is whether she had nose job in the last few months or M&M got a little carried away in the post-production. Either way, I don't care because still - a full 25 years later! - I get extremely emotional and nostalgic when I think about Gianni Versace who was one of a kind and whom I simply *ADORED*!

I saw the issue today at the supermarket....the only good thing about this issue is the Donatella feature...the rest some meh contents and some reprints..nothing special for march...the beauty ed is subpar and there is one ed styled by Helena Tejedor that I'm not sure if it's a reprint or not...any way is meh...

This month Vogue France is better...

Donatella's had some good reconstructive surgery in the last few years.

Yeah either it’s the heavy retouching or plastic surgery that is making it look a bit bizarre to me. Love her but there’s not a wrinkle or pore in sight.

Yeah!!! My favorite designer is Versace. So beautiful this cover and I love her hair!

Their retouching of her isn’t overdone. I’ll give this issue that.

Her past blotched cosmetic work has done irrepressible damage to the structure of her facial features. They’ve shown such sensitivity here with their retouching that it’s obvious it’s retouched, but not overblown as to have her resembling a Bratz Doll, like some other people seem to be happy looking like. These images are good enough. Her face still scares me, but she looks her age and not a waxy 15yo version of her with cheap Instafilters.

The rest of the (reprints) content is instantly forgettable. The only positive of this issue is the decent art direction with its simple, clean layout. That Emanuel person ran the art direction to such lows that the straightforward simplicity presented now feels so fresh and welcoming. Now if only Edward were kept away from this Vogue, Italia might have a chance.

Well, VI and VF look quite similar inside in terms of design.

I absolutely adore this. I want to buy it just because of Donatella.

A sight for sore eyes after such naffer than naff covers over recent months. A real thrill to see an actual Italian icon like Donatella on the cover of an Italian fashion title and just feels like an added bonus that Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott captured Donatella so perfectly!
