Vogue Italia May 2016 : Caitie Greene by Steven Meisel

It's definitely interesting but I don't know if I like it or not. The font however is bad.

Steven finally gets out of the studio! I kinda like it, but the layout could've been so much better

Great cover !
The dress is too covering that't the only thing. I love the attitude of the model.

Catherine Deneuve said that he is the best since Newton. I agree.
It may not be great but it is good enough. I could have said a lot of things about another photographer's cover but here, it's good even with it flaws.

I still think that stylists are instrumental in my appreciation of his work. I would love to see a cover of Vogue Italia styled by Benjamin Bruno. Their Loewe's work is too hard to appreciate.

I don't know what the concept is yet, but to me this is pure Americana from the football field to the cowboy hat. Love it.

Is this the new cheerleader uniform?
It feels very dead to me, no joy or excitement, almost like a funeral.

Love it, it's such an intriguing cover and it made me intrigued to see what the editorial will look like. Love the styling too, looks like Olivier officially became his styling boddy.

I don´t think this is very Meisel but I´m certain it´s very VI, this color scheme always says VI to me...
It´s an ok image imo but it does intrigue me to see the rest.

I don't know how long they will "keep the confusion" at VI but it is very weird. Obviously and we had the proof over the last year that Meisel was the only "veteran" photographer that had the power to keep this magazine alive. Demarchelier, Walker and all did a great job but it wasn't enough.

What i don't understand is why FS doesn't give a chance to another young photographer to do the cover/main story. JAMIE HAWKESWORTH , MICHAL PUDELKA...etc. Those are the names we wants to see at VI...Not Mario Testino doing a "Smile-rich people" issue that is looking like what he did for UK,AMERICAN and FRENCH Vogue!

It feels very dead to me, no joy or excitement, almost like a funeral.

This is precisely the problem I have with his recent work... it feels so lifeless and these girls have no expressions...

I always say there are no leaders anymore and this is a result of it. You have Franca, whose only asset has been giving Meisel total control of the magazine (sorry for being reductionist!); and you have Meisel, a total legend whose time is long gone but tries to stay fashionable (although he fails).

We've been 7 years with the same kind of "ed mood": 7-year-old girl looking miserable and bored in front of the camera. Posing but not posing, just staring to show how miserable her life is. Depressing... Then the stylists add a little bit of awkwardness to the clothes and there you have it!

A real leader would GO AWAY from that look. It's beyond old fashioned. I totally feel that fashion is CRAVING for some energy. But people working at magazines fail to see it cause they are too bourgeois and old and stale and have no passion whatsoever... They are just doing their job, 0 involvement... If they don't retire it's not cause they like fashion, what they like is fashion social life and staying in the spotlight. Being photographed and enjoying their privileges... Once you are not someone important you feel awkward and that's why they don't quit. Too much ego.

It's a pretty shot, but very disappointing as a cover. There's just nothing attention grabbing that would make you want to pick it up and browse through it. There's absolutely nothing with simple covers, but they at least must have something that draws your eye to it.

Hate the styling but it's an impressive cover. I love how simple it is yet it still has an impact

definitely makes me want to look inside. i love the model choice too- clearly meisel is trying to tell us something with this girl- but i do hope it's a multi girl editorial. i probably would have chosen a closer shot of her face for the cover shot, she is quite captivating!

It looks flat to me.
As Creative stated, it has no life/ energy.
The styling is terribly, redundant and boring.

Is this the first time his name has been plastered so big on the cover?
Makes me wonder about all the brouhaha at VI with Meisel?
I wonder if some of the disruption has been self inflicted on his part.
Negotiating for extras ( more money, credit, control) for his work or something like that.

This man is amazing, love the model choice, love the simpleness, VI feels like VI once again. Meisel needs to clone himself or have an official protégé and publically show support to him/her so that maybe Franca could have "a new Meisel" if Steven dies first  ... I know, I know, that will never ever happen. This magazine is trying to evolve artistically without him, but past non-Meisel issues and popular opinion clearly show that changing him for a while just does not work. VI is Meisel, period; so please Franca... take advatange of this genius' talent while he's still alive, don't try to alternate him again with M&M or whatever during the rest of the year... you'll always regret it.

I have no idea who she is but I marvel at the power and simplicity of this cover. Genius.
