Vogue Italia November 2016 : Alicia Burke & Hussein Abdulrahman by Steven Meisel

What's sad is that pretty much all of the portraits in the main editorial were strong enough not to need the tacky effects. Great images all through-out this issue. The cover image is the weakest of the bunch however.
Right?

WOW the ed by Txema Yeste is simply beautiful, the best from this issue.

I agree  The entire issue looks like everyone at their best.

Oh good God, the cover feature is atrocious! It's not so much that I don't know any of these people, but everything (effects/filters) look so contrived. Like a W editorial. The solo shot of Alicia is the best, and quite frankly should've been used for the cover. I do think the girl in the red fur is rather beautiful.

These portraits and the filters remind me of some old portraits Avedon did of The Beatles, Verushka and Cher in US Vogue back in the 60s and 70s.
I like them, but, why do other photographers get called out when they emulate masters of the past, but Meisel gets a pass?

The Stam and Chanel edit  I saw them on IG shooting that ages ago and though it had been scrapped (mainly because both publically said it was for VI). Good to see them though.

GOSHHHHHH I looooove the main editorial, the other stories and the cover too I WILL GET that issue for sure!

It's so weird, the beauty and hair edits are actually much more captivating than the fashion ones. Not normally the case with VI. Wow @ Alisa Ahmann.
And while I couldn't envisage a Michel Comte cover anytime soon, his feature in this issue gives me hope. The miscast is a shame, because those girls are really not attuned to the styling and setting of the story.

I'm really torn. For every great edit, there is an equally bad one...

I like them, but, why do other photographers get called out when they emulate masters of the past, but Meisel gets a pass?

Because has been called out already earlier in his career for copying Avedon and great masters of photography and also because overtime, he has developped a distinctive style. Avedon almost invented the movement in fashion photography.

Weirdly enough, you can't mistake a Meisel portrait from anyone else...Even with the effects.
Plus, legends always get a pass... (I mean, Saint Laurent copied Chanel a lot but he get a pass because people believed that he invented modern fashion).

I am loving Steven Meisel's cover story and seriously this is all I ask for whenever he shoots for Italian Vogue nowadays. I haven't a clue about the cast but Meisel's truly worked his magic on each and every subject, they've all photographed so beautifully and can't single out a bad shot. Yes!

Yet another month where Italian Vogue hasn't come over here with the supplements, which I find frustrating (and I know a few other members have vented over this recently too). The magazine's also had a price increase here in the UK..

£7.60 now, is it?

I was wondering the other day, why is US Vogue £7.50, when nearly every other US women's magazine remains in the range of £4-£5? It's a glorified catalogue, not a niche product, and overpricing it doesn't magically elevate the contents.

And importation costs/exchange rates can only account for so much - I can go to the local Polish shops and pick up their Glamour/Elle for the same price as the UK versions.

^Indeed, £7.60 and now without the additional extras each month it seems. It's odd because when looking at the issue on Newsstand and Unique Magazine's website, the issue appears to come wrapped with the supplements included - just doesn't in the stores.
