Vogue Paris December 2019/January 2020 : Virginie Efira by Mikael Jansson

Any chance it will be a multi cover? It's one thing to keep it local, but for a globally known (almost wanted to say 'renowned',) magazine like VP, it's a bit of a tough sell for anyone outside of France and Belgium.

That's a beautiful and chic cover. Very VP.

This is precisely the sort of beauty styling that I adore above all else... yet this looks really weak and disappointing, like someone deciding to cosplay a Hollywood siren for a ten minute youtube tutorial, complete with cheap effects.

Cheap it is. And this from Mikael... :weeps:

no thank you. i can't stand her. I'd rather have Isabelle Bourgoin.

I googled her because I don't know who she is and I'm really impressed. She's gorgeous, the cover is stunning. Always great to see someone unexpected on Vogue.

haha I think you mean Louise Bourgoin
Actually that would be nice. She's a very stunning actress

I'm fine having Virginie Elfira on the cover. It's a refreshing choice and she's also beautiful. Clearly, this cover will be a hit in France and Belgium.

Nice one! I don't (much) prefer celebrities on covers, but at least she's not an overexposed Hollywood actress or a nepotistic child that's being hyped.

Yes Louise. I was talking about a Isabelle at the same time haha

A lot of French celebrities don’t have IG...
It might sound a bit weird for people outside of the country but here, some of the most popular stars don’t have IG as they are quite often visible on television.

I wouldn’t even call her a French Jennifer Aniston. Yes, she has that girl next door appeal but She was a TV host first. She became an actress and with all due respect, she has shown more range than Jennifer. She is much more than romantic comedies.

She is very ELLE and not so much VP. That’s why seeing her on the cover is so great. A lot of French actresses are very ELLE but for example, you have Isabelle Huppert who is very VP but who never had a cover.

I would love to see Virginie Efira as the face of Saint Laurent.

Thank you Lola for the addtional info!...She is going to have a big film next year...maybe that's why she is on the cover?.... i don't think Alt take this in consideration to choose her cover girls...but who knows right?

haha I think you mean Louise Bourgoin.

I read that as Louise Bourgeois…

Can you imagine… Louise in Yohji, or Simone Rocha or Fendi on the cover of VP shot by Mikael… :swoons: (Although the reality is she would likely be dressed in Chanel or Dior.)

I still remember when she was the face of a Helmut Lang campaign— and the day when Juergen was such a strong visionary. Those were the days when one could learn so much from a single high fashion campaign :sigh:

Man she must have some strong connections to land a cover like this. So random.

Would nice to see Francois Ozon edit one issue...or Charlotte Rampling...

Yeah, well, we don't have this type of personality today

I don't think that's true. Off the top of my head, you can get the likes of Margaret Atwood, Cindy Sherman, Ava DuVernay, Jorgos Lanthimos, Michelle Obama and Serena Williams (overused, but a pioneer and icon nevertheless) who have shaped this decade in some way in their respective fields and have embraced/been embraced by fashion media, so it's not an impossible get. Hell, Pat McGrath is an icon and a successful businesswoman of this decade and should guest edit a Vogue Paris issue.

Vogue Paris FLATLINED from September onwards. Each and every cover since September was LAZY, tragic, forgettable, and lackluster.

After reaching the 1000th Issue, I kinda sense that VP and the team behind it got cocky? It feels like “Yeah we already reached 1000 issues, VP is stable. People will buy whatever we produce regardless.”

Uhm, Vogue Paris is indeed to stay, but Alt and her team is NOT Irreplaceable. Remember that.

What on earth are you doing with your time Alt? Seriously?

Clara Luciani could be another face Alt could take in consideration, she is becoming quite popular...

I want a Clara Luciani cover too, but I very much doubt that will ever happen. France is blessed with the most extraordinary beautiful actresses and performers on Earth and for whatever reason VP celebrity cover choices always follow a secret baffling internal logic that goes against any known rule of business or common sense and will be forever incomprehensible for any of it's readers.

I have no idea who this woman is, so having to rely solely on the superficial appeal of the cover to decide if i want to buy it, I say it's a firm no. I do not find her beauty particularly interesting and i do not care for the styling or feel of the cover.

Jorgos would be an amazing creative contributor to VP if he channels his film aesthetic into fashion stories. (Cindy’s already contributed to a CdG campaign way back in the 80s— and it looked a mess… No to the likes of Michelle, Margaret and Serena since they have absolutely no style and this is high fashion.) I’d love to see Helmut Lang, Gaultier, Mathew Barney, Grace Jones, Calvin Klein, Stefano Pilati, Rei Kawakubo, Naomi Campbell, Louise Bourgeois guest-editing VP. (Whether they’d want to do it, is another thing altogether…)

Unfortunately the sheep just wouldn't care for them, so that would reflect on how CN would see them as potential profit— preferring InstaCelebs and manufactured popstars and Hollywood talking airheads instead, espousing basic social justice 101 onto high fashion. God, imagine VP being guest-edited by Brie Larson or that Greta kid... :shudders:

I really mentioned these names as sort of the cultural equivalents to tigerrouge's list, but I fully agree with all the people you've mentioned. I would die for a Miss Grace Jones' guest edited issue; I have been fascinated by everything she does since I was a kid, culminating with a front-row spot at a concert of hers last summer where I got to see her closer than I ever thought I would, and touched her hand when she got down. So yeah, I'd hunt that issue down even if it was the last one on Earth.

I'm biased but I loved October, for Laurijn. First issue I bought in many years. And November was quite nice also, different aesthetic for Vogue Paris.
I would say Vogue Paris is not as tragic as Vogue Italia :D
