What to wear under transparent / see through clothes

i bought a dress a couple of months ago and it is a blend of cotton and jersey. the problem is that it's white and if i go in the sun it is 100% see-through! what should i do? i can't wear a slip under it unless it's custom made because the back of the dress is a low u-neck. what are your tricks? something like spanx? nude underwear? i'm scared there will be an outline though!

What about a half slip? They're available in a number of lengths, from long to short, so it shouldn't be too difficult to find one that wouldn't show. You'd still have to find something for the top half of the dress, but at least the bottom wouldn't be transparent.

urban outfitters does have the best slips-check their website, they have all sorts of lengths and colors.

i had a see-through nightmare today-i wore a vintage polyester sundress sans slip because when I looked in the mirror i thought it wasnt that bad...that is until i started walking down the street and walked past a large group of men loudly speaking a language i did not understand....but i got their message loud and clear.
awful!!

sometimes sheer things come with slips-i have one that came with a phillip lim dress that i use for just about everything.

I recommend nude-colored underwear and a nude-colored backless bra (or as Jane recommended, trying some place like Urban Outfitters). The underwear doesn't have to be a thong, it could be something seamless like this:

that keeps everything covered. As long as it's close to your skin color, it shouldn't show underneath.

Id say, wear either smth nude ( nude underwear but low cut on hips and kind of like laser cut tange on the rear plus a bra of same color) or smth of the same color as the sheer/transparent clothes.

I would wear nude seamles underwear as well, or a slip dress. Some of my dresses are seethrough as well, so that I have to wear tank dresses. It works pretty well.

but it sound like you can't wear a bra and you'll need something if it's as see through as you say...

I usually wear underwear of the same colour under see through clothes, but sometimes wear a contast & make that a feature of the outfit. For example, I have a black lace dress and worn it with purple underwear, tights, shoes & handbag.

Id say its best to put a lining under the dress, you could use white fabric or nude if you like transparency without exposing yourself haha.

Light pink or peach bras work just as well as nude-colored bras for me. I like the hint of lace underneath the clothes, and I'm modestly endowed, so it doesn't look obscene if my nipples show a little. But I agree that it's not appropriate in most work settings, and so I settle for a seamless T-shirt bra.

These are the most boring bras in the world, but they do the trick. You have to find one that really molds to your curves, otherwise its structure is too apparent underneath your shirt/dress, which goes against the whole point.

^ La Mystere makes a great molded bra ... in fact I thought of you when I bought the most recent one, which has scalloped lacey straps that will probably show a bit with very wide-necked tops ... 'G~R would approve'

But surely not Tim Gunn. That sounds perfect, I'll keep my eye out for that brand, not sure if I've seen it here.
