i don't think Phoebe is going to leave Celine so soon...
New Names in the Dior Hat
By BY CATHY HORYN
I am not at all surprised LVMH executives are talking to Marc Jacobs about moving from Louis Vuitton to Dior, as Women’s Wear Daily reported today. Not to disparage Mr. Jacobs’s talents, but where else can they look? With few exceptions, the strategy of Bernard Arnault, the chairman of LVMH, has been to load up his brands with big, bankable stars, and there are not many of them available. Shortly after John Galliano was dismissed from Dior, editors put together an imaginary list of candidates: Alber Elbaz of Lanvin, Tom Ford, Nicolas Ghesquiere of Balenciaga, among others. Yet for obvious reasons these individuals might be happy where they are, as would Sarah Burton, the creative director of Alexander McQueen, whose name surfaced soon after the royal wedding in April. According to WWD, she rebuffed overtures from LVMH.
As a proven talent, Mr. Jacobs could certainly do marvelous things at Dior, but I can’t imagine that Yves Carcelle, the president of Louis Vuitton, would be happy about such a move. I also wonder why LVMH doesn’t build for the future by considering talented designers not necessarily in the Dior gossip pipeline.
Here, then, are three suggestions for LVMH:
Raf Simons: He quickly became a star at Jil Sander, despite having little experience in women’s fashion. He helped juice up the market with color. And he knows how to build a design team — no small thing today.
Sébastien Peigné: You’ve probably never heard of him, but he’s the women’s designer at Mugler. He spent about eight years in the Balenciaga studio. He seems disciplined and he knows what’s young and modern.
Christopher Kane: Let’s face it, Mr. Kane needs a bigger stage for his imaginative fashion. Just about everyone in the business is curious to see what he does each season. And working with Donatella Versace has enlarged his understanding of big brands.
I think Alaia would have been amazing...
^ the wwd says she'd stay at celine AND also do vuitton
Maybe for the designs, but he doesn't seem to have the PR or people skills to handle something so important and high profile...
so if he DOES take up the seat at dior, would he go back and forth between NY and France to juggle his MJ & MBMJ brand and dior??
