ok i'm now hearing that Tisci has indeed signed a new contract at Dior and that is also being reported by Hintmag. I guess it's final? But has anyone else heard anything about Alber Elbaz being replaced by Jason Wu at Lanvin?? I'm finding this incredibly hard to believe...

LVMH's Bernard Arnault on Who Might Replace John Galliano; Plus, Is Marc Jacobs Interested in the Dior Spot?

Some rumors have the Dior job signed and sealed — with Riccardo Tisci at the helm — but according to LVMH head Bernard Arnault, as of this morning, no decision had been made about John Galliano's replacement. “We’re thinking,” he said at the Louis Vuitton show. Suzy Menkes reports: "People close to LVMH who chose not to be identified because of the sensitivity of the subject say [Marc] Jacobs is a possible candidate, but he does the Vuitton thing so well that it would be a risk to move him." When asked whether he had designs on the Dior position, Jacobs replied: "No! I haven’t been asked.”

i wonder if tisci will have to leave his stable of girls and boys behind to create a clear image for dior completely detached from that of givenchy.

oh god i shiver whenever the marc jacobs name comes up. they need to make a statement on this mess

I have a feeling that Bernard Arnault (I can't stand the bloody man) will milk this for all its worth just to get people interested in the name Dior again. Therefore he is going to delay and take as long as possible before making any announcement! Ugh i'm disgusted!

Riccardo Tisci Signs Contract with Dior

We've been getting conflicting reports all day (and week) about who's going to Dior, following the abrupt departure of John Galliano. Most of it has been speculation, but today we got word from a highly credible source that a contract has been signed with Riccardo Tisci. Signed. It sounds pretty final now.

Before, one theory regarding Tisci had been his Givenchy collections are too dark, conceptual and masculine for the commercially driven house of Dior. It would seem CEO Sidney Toledano and the other Dior/LVMH execs see it differently, or perhaps Tisci will lighten and broaden his aesthetic.

Alber Elbaz and Haider Ackermann are two other names that have been floated. Last night Style.com tweeted, "Not to add to the Dior rumor mill, but people in Paris are asking, why has the Lanvin team been in tears all day?" And indeed Ackermann's fall show was of a brilliance that would shine at Dior.

John Galliano arrived to Dior at the recommendation of Anna Wintour, and so another strain of thought held that another of her "protégés" would fill the top slot. Inevitably, one name that popped up was Marc Jacobs. He'd have no problem with ready-to-wear, as his Louis Vuitton collections are perennial hits, but it's unclear how he would handle couture, which is very important for Dior. Tisci has experience with couture at Givenchy.

Onward. Olivier Theyskens? Why not. He's capable, but difficult. And he's already refused the job twice. It's unlikely to be offered again. He's also pretty well ensconced now at Theory. Christian Lacroix? Very talented and available, but perhaps, at 60, he is a little past the ideal age. Same story with Jean Paul Gaultier, whose name has also been mentioned. And here's another very obvious problem with the choice of Gaultier. While he's up to the challenge stylistically (plus, apparently he and Galliano do not get along, to say the least), Hermès still has a 45% stake in Gaultier's label, and we all know the takeover kerfuffle between LVMH and Hermès. Rodarte? Natalie Portman did opt for a Rodarte dress to the Oscars over Dior, and while it's believed the demure Mulleavy sisters would excel with the couture aspect of Dior, they may not be an ideal fit with the sexed-up, va-va-voom identity of Dior, or with churning out It bags and other accessories at breakneck speed, which is the LVMH way. They could easily be next in line at Kenzo.

All of which has made Tisci the best candidate for the job and why his signing with Dior is believable. As usual, of course, the caveat here is you never really know until an announcement is made, which may be days or weeks away. If it is true, this leaves the question of who's going to Givenchy wide open. Let the musical chairs and guessing games begin—or continue.

Alber can't leave Lanvin! And out of all the Parisian industry designers, I thought Alber's position was one of the safest. This is all turning upside down. Is Karl at Chanel the only secure one now? Aside from everyone's own label, of course.

Oh my God..No. No. Not possible! I don't know what I'd do if he did leave. Seriously, what the hell is going on?
And it all started with rumours of Pilati leaving YSL...

Okay so I guess this is true. This frustrates me as a Givenchy fan that its head designers are more than willing to let go of the brand. I felt that with Tisci, Givenchy was becoming as identifiable to a customer as Chanel or say Balenciaga.
Givenchy itself was difficult for Tisci to get used to I can only imagine how Dior will fare for him.

^ wasn't it confirmed that he'll leave after 2012 that's his anniversary for *idontknowhowmanyyears* at chanel?

Yeah, there was some seriously backed up speculation that Karl's contract would not be renewed after 2012. And people were thinking that either Ackermann or Elbaz would take over, but those were just rumours.

Ah, so that's the way it goes. I'm kinda lost in the sea of rumours these days, you know. Every day at least one designer is leaving/fired/something's wrong.

So many rumors about designers leaving  Although there are some that I don't mind..

I think change is good. The industry needs new blood. I'm waiting for the day someone will get a brain and fire Marc Jacobs from Louis Vuitton. In the past 6 years or so, the only new designers I've really come to enjoy are the new dudes at Ferre. They've made the house absolutely breathtaking.
