Awwww I'm sorry.

Well I was thinking mostly of tennis shoes. Those are for tennis only!!

oh i wasn't referring to tennis shoes. more like strappy heels.... or peeptoes.
i've seen some girls wearing white open toe shoes with black or dark stockings. looks really cute on them. its a look i won't try back here tho.

Yeah, I can see white shoes looking good, but usually not stark while, more like an ivory color. I think white shoes are really hard to pull off though... I can't see them ever looking good on me really! I actually love lous vuitton's satin pleated pumps in white.

But as for tennis shoes.. Actually I guess I'm just biased against them no matter wwhat color they are.

I don't have many:

Never the same designer all of my clothes
Never the same color
Never too many layers
Never all vintage
Never too bright colors

That's about it.... I thinki.

I have like a million rules!!

I never wear
Chunky heels
Platforms
Round toes
High wasted jeans
Tapered (skinny) jeans
Anything baggy or shapeless
Midriff baring anything
Anything too tight
Stockings & open toes
Logos
Tennis shoes (unless I’m @ gym)
Head to toe one designer
Plastic flip-flops- (prefer leather or straw or anything else)
Shirts with writing on them
Anything “sporty”
Horizontal stripes
Shorts
Skirts that end between knee and ankle
Ankle boots with skirts
Light colored close-toed shoes (make my feet look huge)
Armani, Calvin Klein, Jil Sander

I always wear
Colors that complement my complexion (I’m an autumn)
A belt if there are belt loops
Makeup- natural colors, light coverage
Matching shoes & Bag-Unless my shoes are colored, then I match to my top
(exe. Red top, red heels, jeans & Black Bag)
Expensive bags & shoes- everything else can be basics- Gap/ Banana Republic
Only one piece of jewelry at a time

If I wear
A print, then everything else picks up colors from it
Something designer, I like to pair it something really cheap
A trend, the rest of the outfit is classic basics
One sexy thing, the rest is neutral & basic (ex. Denim mini, turtleneck, Flat
Boots)

these i really agree on:

I find it so amusing that people like completely different stuff and think it makes life so much more interesting! :flower:

About the never white shoes thing - I used to agree--- but I have a tendency to HATE something (like white shoes) and then end up falling in love with a pair of white shoes (while still hating all other white shoes)! Same thing with leopard print..I used to find it tacky..but fell i love with a leopard print item that I got and love, but still hate everything else leopard/animal print.
i used to obey the never black with brown and ever black with blue rule, but now I don't--if I can make it look good that is!

I've found that it's better to break rules than stick to them. I used to have all these rules but I've found myself accidentally breaking them. Stuff like no black with brown. Not wearing tons of jewellery.

For me, it takes the fun and spontananaity out of dressing. I'd just go with what I feel is right without thinking too much about rules. I suppose th only rule I'd stick to is not dressing in one designer from head to toe but even then I'm sure and exception will crop up in the future and I'll end up breaking that one too!

strict fashion rule for any gal at any age:

- avoid pleated trousers that taper AND have a folded hem!!

alas alas, i see this a lot especially on women of a certain age/demographic *cough* my Mom *cough*

I dont think I really have any specific rules. I typically dont like black and brown together, but I dont have that much brown in my warbrobe so its not usually a problem. I've paired my brown python silverado with black shoes, but I think thats about it. I find even the most amazing things look awful in lepord print, like the YSL belt, CL pigalle, YSL muse bag... but thats more of a preference.

Nothing trashy or tacky.
No huge logos.
No big fads.
Never loafers/wedges/chunky heels/platforms.
NEVER real animals!! (fur, croc etc.)
No ponchos
No minis.

There must be more

agree totally with therese ;)
i wear horizontal stripes, round toed heels, a riot of colors sometimes too.

I never wear earing with necklace
no head to toe one colour and no more than 3 main colours in one outfit
no flats

i think i dont follow any rule except this one:

"Dont wear anything that makes you feel like you are dressed in disguise"

Sonny xxx

-Always mix prints..no "formula" for it, but i know it works when i see it..
-All colors are fair game throughout the year..
-Never all-black..need at least SOMETHING of color to break it up..
-Tennis shoes for casual..Dress shoes for more formal looks (no tennis shoes & blazers..)
-Cheap tennis shoes, yes..cheap dress shoes, no..
-Always a watch, even if i have the time on my cell..
-Keep the colors to a minimum..ive learned the hard way that too many colors doesnt work for me..
-Bowties, or my 1 ascot..never a necktie..
-Vintage Lacoste (which Ive kept to since high-school)..No new-school Lacoste..
-No shorts & sandals, no matter how hot it is outside..
-No excess length in pants..always get pants tailored for as clean of a line as possible..
-No to anything from major ad-campaign designers..but sometimes MJ & MiuMiu is an exception..if the price is right..
-No white shoes after Labor Day (I know, its an outdated rule, but my parents practice it, so its more of a tradition to me..)

but of course, i do always make room for error..

I don't have a lot of rules, but-

I never wear polo shirts. The only one I can recall wearing was a high school job uniform.

I try to stay away from logoing. I have one Helmut shirt with his name inside out, but that's about the extent of it. Definitely no monogramed pieces. That's not so much of an issue for men though. It seems more common for handbags.

I used to have a strict non brown/khaki rule. It was mainly a reaction against guys in boring baggy khakis and cargo shorts. I've since discovered that I can work with those colors, but they're still not a major part of my wardrobe.

I can't put my tie rules into words, but I tend toward dark/plain ones. My dad, who wears far more conservative things than I, has actually told me that all of my ties are boring. I don't mind something with some color, but it shouldn't overwhelm the suit. I would wear something like last spring's miu miu (with the sewn on details), but that's an exception.

No typical midwestern brands. AE, A&F, Banana, etc. Their style clashes with mine anyway, but I'd rather by thrift store stuff than waste my time with these. I make some exceptions for plain Gap Ts to sleep in or wear under other items.

Unfortunately, I'll have to deal with a lot more rules in the upcoming months/years. Midwestern lawyers aren't known for their style. Depending on how my working environment feels, I may switch to an entirely black/white/grey work wardrobe. Other colors will be used to accent. We'll see how that works out. Fortunately, shades of grey are favorites of mine.

where i live is pretty conservative so i really can't do navy and black. i also don't like brown and black or white and light khaki.

when my hair is really dark, i don't like to go all black--which I sometimes do because of my job. i have fair skin, and i end up looking like death.

i don't like mixing revealing clothing--like a short skirt with a halter top, but that's a rule i break at the beach.

Several people have mentioned not wearing black and brown. Although this has been a widely known "fashion no-no", it is actually okay to wear brown and black, so long as the hues are not dramatically different. The well-dressed Italians have already proven this to be true. As for my own personal "rule", I absolutely cannot stand when button-up shirts are left untucked. The only exception to this rule is when wearing a fine silk shirt, such as one of those beautiful Cavalli or Versace prints (the bright, abstract/animal prints). Obviously such a delicate shirt belongs untucked. But really, keep those shirttails tucked in! Guys, in particular, are notorious for wearing button-ups untucked underneath a blazer...I suppose the whole indie/emo trend is partly to blame for this atrocity.
