Alexander McQueen Mens F/W 07.08 Milan

His "spectacular" pieces are really spectacular. His normal stuffs are just nice.

I like the leather ccoat and the coat with blue 3D effects, and the transparent shirt.

very positive review by Suzy Menkes

Alexander McQueen made a conscious step towards a retro-futurism that has been in fashion since Balenciaga picked up that beat. But McQueen is his own man and this was a show with great vision and a sense of deep luxury. It was original, from the makeup transforming both heads and hair into the male figurines of cyberspace to its shiny, other-worldly fabrics. When a transparent plastic coat floated over a crisp white shirt or a gleaming black coat ran over the body like black treacle, there was an eerie glamour to the clothes.

McQueen is of the "reference" school of design and his clothes had allusions to British tailoring, American sportswear and male violence hidden behind a mask or balaclava. But all this was done with subtlety and style, as were the fantastic embellishments, especially a fern pattern that seemed to be stamped on Neoprene as well as embroidered on classic fabrics. Played out in black, highlighted with cyberspace blue, a flash of orange and a glint of gilt sequin, like medieval armor, McQueen was at his powerful best.

Not very young really. The clothes have an older man's tailoring but is trying desperately to be hip. I've yet to see anything on a hanger that is appealing let alone wearable- his shoulders are SO large. Very hooked on 80's.

i like what he is doing from an artistic point of view, but i dont see myself wearing anything from it really.

Agreed. Some of the stuff near the beginning was wearable, but it just got less and less so towards the end of the show. The clothes that didn't play with proportions were by far the best.

This collection is unique and interesting. Its futuristic done right.
Unlike some other collections like Burberry this works because it belives in its drama.
The hair and faces of the models are superb the clothes are even better.Love the coats and jackets.McQueens man goes out and is dressed-ready for World of the Wars!Bravo Alexander!!

it's funny how all it takes is a really freaky look to make me head over heels for a collection-see there is some good out there still:woot:

thank goodness for the showmen designers that make everything much more facinating!!!

BTW i love the theatrics and the lights, stage, production ect
i would have killed to have been there and ate the adrenaline with a fork!!!
the clothes were immaculate and the concept was innovative and sharp!

(i'd kill preferably with that mask from pic#1:doh: )

^me too!.

I also agree with nqth, I'm definitely attracted to all the "grandiose" pieces, he's a master at that, the rest is ok, I don't hate it but I dont like it either, it says nothing to me.. could take them even as fillers if i had less scruples. :p

gorgeous coats!

and was this tinsel embroidered into these jackets...maybe the way it's been photographed but they just have that kind of sparkle about them....like metallic fireworks.

He's doing a lot of clever things with this collection. The gorgeous fabric treatments, the bold shoulder, and the stylized yet classic silhouette are great. I'd call this a breakthrough, it's far more significant than what he's been showing in Paris for the past couple of years.

I know I ask this every season, but are there really enough gay hairdresser types in the world to keep McQueen and Galliano menswear in business?
