Balenciaga S/S 2012: Juliane, Kirstin, Laura & Rosie by Steven Meisel

I think that the images with the blonde models work, especially these two, I think that the sets and styling work best here, although not crazy about that grass skirt. Also the models are giving off the right attitude / vibe.

ETA:
Who is she?

Juliane Grüner.

After seeing all the shots, I completely change my mind about this campaign. It's actually really good. Maybe I really don't like Laura Kampman as a model. For me the star is Kristin Kragh Liljegren. Her shots are magnificent.

This is officially the best Balenciaga campaign I have ever seen from Steven Meisel.

All the shots are fantastic, especially these of Laura and Kristin standing alone in the room. It's so perfectly refreshing, quirky yet appealing to me.

And let me say, give me the money and I'm moving to this apartment tomorrow.

Awful campaing Balenciaga need a BIG change of direction

Seeing all of the shots as one set it doesn't look that bad. In fact, if it was an editorial I'd probably even like it. But as an ad campaign this just doesn't work. The collection was bad to begin with but it looks even more hideous in those shots.
The brown-haired models look identical to me, I don't get why you would use two new and unknown models for such a big campaign when they're so bland and both look the same anyway. The blonde girls suit this campaign a bit better, but they're still awfully uninteresting. So, in short: bad models, bad clothes & styling, bad campaign.

The campaign looks somehow unsettling and disturbing for me. The way the girls look on us is so odd.. especially the brown haired girls.

Even with the explanation I still don't like this. It makes sense but it doesn't work because the campaign pics should tell the story, it shouldn't have to be explained!

They all look cracked out at a scyfi afterparty and I find the nth Patti Smith reference tedious but I'd definitely notice this in a magazine and actually stop and look at it. Does that make it a good campaign?

i hope balenciaga will come out with something more creative soon...

i am so happy, this is perfect. (i just wish there was more of the other girls and a little less of laura but whatever)
just as someone else said, this is by far my favorite of meisel's campaigns for balenciaga - they've gotten better each season.
i can't wait to get them in print!
^_^ :D B) :crush:

when i look @ the new one, i can see balenciaga by ghesquiere nonchalance around 2000, with ann catherine and roos.

ahahah from corinne day to m+m & i+v ... troubled. but that's in what ghesquiere grow.
probably a bit of another casting would be better. i don't know. but now i can totaly see where they stand.

it's what this campaign reminded me of too. i have the judy linn book by patti smith and i can clearly see how it's been an inspiration. love this campaign... and i haven't really liked a campaign in a long time.

After seeing the full set I can appreciate these much more:D some shots work better than others but also cause its just not the best Balenciaga collection. I get the Patti Smith reference and like the shots where you can see the apartment more and with the pink and black plastic like skirt cause its the best look in the collection imo:flower:

Ugh, this campaign still is awful. Hate the concept, the cast, the styling.
this campaign would only worked with experienced models and not with young newbies. Although Juliane and Kirstin looks way better then Laura and Rosie.

I don't mind the setting and the ambiance, but the cast and hair/make up is the downfall of the campaign for me. They're not emoting anything. And even if they were trying to achieve a disheveled appearance and a nonchalant attitude, the cast is still ruining it and not conveying it. They're a bunch of inexperienced fresh faces trying hard to look strung out and high.

No. Just no.

The whole set is actually convincing. After seeing the references, I think it was well executed. I don't mind Balenciaga my Meisel at all, they've done good, imo.

something tells me that the true balenciaga customer relates to the scenes depicted in this campaign even if they might not completely understand its reference points. these images evoke such a strong air of punk rock overindulgence that it imbues those clothes -- that didn't have that impact on the runway -- with something rebellious.
