^ i didn't know that. thanks! some of those suits remind me of a bit more elaborate yves saint laurent from afar.

wich were also inspired by elsa Schiapparelli, it´s the same source of inspiration for very different styles, Saint Laurent have certainly been inspired by Schiapparelli´s work, wich is linked to Salvador Dali´s surrealism (they were friends and he was one of the people who told her to begin a career as a couturier, another one was Paul Poiret), John´s work throughout the years have had some brushes of Schiapparelli´s work as well, specially at the beginning, most of the spoters were shocked and laughin at those looks and the lobster head pieces thinking they were stupid designs when they actually are a recreation of the very begining of avant-garde fashion and her creator, wich proves that in order to understand and enjoy, one must before know.

For anyone who may have been wondering (I know I did when I first saw it) the last gown on Stella, and the rest of the dresses in that section I'm assuming, were made from aluminum-foil appliqued organza....according to the Sept Vogue Marie Antoinette editorial which features the finale gown in a pewtery/black color.

An interesting technique I think, since originally I had thought it was some typpe of glazed taffeta.

The dress in all it's glory, all 200 metres of it.

Scans taken from the Sept 2006 Vogue thread, not sure about the original scanner

^^ Looks like hardened lava.
Exactly what I was thinking!! It's sooo gorgeous though and is sooo clever when applied to a dress posed on stairs...

I've just taken a closer look at the clothes and I must say they're beautiful. Some of them (like the lettuce dresses) are unwearable, but others if you just look at the dress and ignore the armour, is absolutely stunning and in answer to the question: yes it's wearable.

For example, I never realized how beautiful this dress was until I saw it on Dakota.

I love that photo in #466!
Gosh ,Galliano is clever when it comes to ballgowns. It's hard for him to mess one up it seems.

Wow lucky little girl, she gets to wear Dior Couture. That dress is phenomenal like the rest of that brilliant collection!

I went to the Love and War exhibit at FIT today and they had not one, but two entire looks from the collection, head to toe, on display. One was the opening look and the other was from the finale section, the black armoured piece with huge headdress.

Seing them from literally 3 feet away you cant help but be in awe of them, they were just extraodinary. I'd recommend anyone who can go to see the exhibit, it was incredible.
