I think this guy is definitely talented... but keep in mind that "talented" and "original" are two different things...

he MAY be inspired by VW but how much can he change to make it original and yet retain the English Royale flavour??? Nothing much... and thus some of the pieces bears uncanny resemblences to VW...

well...the first thing that comes to mind is the SHOES>>>!!!...

he definitely could have come up with something more original...

i don't think that talent and originality are two different things...i think they are pretty evenly balanced in my book...talent=originality...even if it's not COMPLETLEY original... a designer needs to have their own perpective or point of view...their own 'take' on an idea...

i've always thought...don't copy something unless you can make it better...it's sort of an unwritten rule in design...

... i wish i could post more pics from the VW collection...
brian...do you have any more?...it would be interesting to look at...

sometimes i think a copy can be even better than the original....but i am NEVER willing to pay as much money for it... :innocent:

The collection that Galliano was most inspired by was the Westwood Vive La Cocette collection shown in Paris.

But then it is mostly that Westwood almost has a monopoly over the historical fashion aspect rather than that other designers are attempting to copy her.

Suffice to say if I had the means I would buy out most of the couture if not just for the aesthetic pleasure. Since I cannot wear those items as I am male.

Mouna Ayoub had her maternity clothing made at Gaultier Couture if I recall correctly.

One of the pieces reminded me of the Poiret dress created for the Italian aristocrat Marchesa Luisa Casati.

Mouna Ayoub is one of the world's largest couture customers.

I'm lost

i was looking over some of vivienne's older collections tonight, and the more i see her stuff the more i kind of lose my respect for john galliano

nearly everything she's done, he copies. blatantly.
it's like he idolizes her to the living end and wants to mold his life, mold his career around her.
HE WANTS TO BE HER!!

i keep seeing more and more and now i really am beginning to see eye-to-eye with those of you who are outraged at this collection (ie: softgrey)

and just one more small thing that i noticed is the handbags in vivienne's spring 1997 collection......
john galliano QUITE BLATANTLY ripped them off for his menswear f/w 2004 collection

i'm pretty sure it is a coincidence.
i highly doubt john galliano/dior/lvmh has spy cameras in your house, or are recording your every move, action, or breath

...i also noticed john using a lot of themes, shapes, ideas and designs i'm working with as well.
i was (and still am, i am NEVER giving up!) going to use corsetry and the fuller padded hips for my collection as well..... a nod to westwood actually
but i'm not a b*tch like john about it.

haha...maybe this is interesting...galliano copies westwood copying dior... :innocent: :woot:

quote from the V&A website on the current vivenne westwood exhibit...
...Vive la Cocotte collection (A/W 1995). The precise tailoring and nipped-in waist reflect Westwood's interest in French couturier Christian Dior. ...Westwood said, "I don't mind at all telling people I copied it, because I believe in copying if you can. There is nothing better."

...i guess galliano is copying vivienne's idea of copying... ;)

it's all good... :flower:

The full collection is available here (including detail shots)
WOW
it's all so much more amazing, gorgeous up close like that!!!

i still stand by my thing about how i still love this collection no matter what, though
even if john is insane and wants to be vivienne westwood.

wow then i guess we're all wrong then.
or something.

actually, princeofcats hit the nail on the head earlier

anyhow that still does NOT dismiss john from blatantly copying other ORIGINAL westwood designs :order:

brian...you little drama queen...i don't think galliano wants to be her...!!!!

but the was good spotting that bag...i don't have the patience or the time...but i'm sure you could find many more...

and marc jacobs' idea of using grafitti artist stephen sprouse to write all over vuitton stuff...also comes form vivienne collaborating with grafitti artist keith haring in the eighties...

if you look for it...you will definitley find it all there... :flower:

:woot: :innocent:
