Christian Dior HC S/S 2012 Paris

Very pretty, but not original at all. This is what we all should expect from Dior at this point.

i see all the red dress = valli comparisons, but it's not like galliano (or christian dior himself) never did big puffy gowns....

i also wanted to add that the shoes look very cheap. like something you'd find in a cheap festish shop

beautiful collection, I love the 1947 New Look era reference I'm seeing. it just feels more like a pret-a-porter collection than haute couture at this point.....

i personally think it's a very beautiful collection

That's the real Christian Dior Essence, I am loving Gaytten, this collection is absolutely FABULOUS and Fantastic.

I don't wanna Raf designing Dior.

the shapes and cuts are like a mash-up of (heavily borrowed from the archives - ) galliano's last few seasons at dior only with a more decent color palette (no pastels, that's a relief). there really is nothing new here, only maybe some very ugly gowns towards the end

I like the concept very much - the sheer opacity deconstructing the classic, iconic, Dior silhouettes. Prim elegance sexualised.

It sits neatly with the whole lady deconstructed thing. And, perhaps, the prim meets perverse @ ie Prada and Christopher Kane.

And I'd like to introduce what I believe is a new concept in our understanding of this metatrend - that of the Freudian Uncanny. The return of something strangely familiar but in a new challenging or unsettling form.

Fashion has been in this headspace for a while of course - eg all the references to Hitchcock (whom Lacan believed to be the master of the uncanny in the arts). Gayyten was exactly right to take Dior here in this moment.

Concept and positioning is all very well but what of execution? The first look is delightful. The second idk, it feels like it has too much volume of fabric at the centre? Looks therefore slightly ill fitting and awkward.

And is there a kimono feel perhaps? And the 7/8ths dolman sleeve I'm no officianado on the Dior archive but I believe that to be a Cristobel Balenciagaism rather than archivally faithful to Dior. These aspects just give me the slight impression there might be too much going on and an element of trying to hard.

I'd have thought the concept might translate best kept very simple, very faithful to archive in terms of line and, in places, go the whole hog with the deconstruction, taking the opacity down very low - visually leave not much more than the frame of the silhouette. Anyway.

And for anyone familiar with Freud on the Uncanny, there's a massive connecting styling aspect missed here - shades (as in sunglasses). It is summer after all.

Classic looking but very safe.

very classically Dior, which is beautiful..with a few swings at old Galliano couture collections (I'm seeing bits from SS07 Couture onwards). Safe as can be

The collection is quite pretty. It's a bit boring, but Galliano was boring the last few seasons too. It's not innovative or original, but again, Galliano wasn't innovative nor original his last few seasons either. I think my biggest issue with it was that it just looked SO OLD FASHIONED. Save a few pieces here and there, you could've shown me the collection and said it was from 1956 and I would've believed you. The shapes, the print, the fabric (combined with the hair) just made it look so aged. And I understand the whole "going back" thing they tried to do, but even while going back, you have to move forward or at least stay current. Instead, they just rehashed what they found in their archives and basically replicated the pieces.

Dior house is in desperate need of some rejuvenation. The longer they sit on their hands without a new head designer in charge, the longer their image will deteriorate and before you know it, it may be too late. I really believe Christian Dior label is on the brink of losing all its relevancy in fashion (if it still has any left).

its like you take a few pieces here and there from the past Dior collections by galliano
and soak them in large bleach vessel and bleach off the colours AND VOILA!!!!! SS2012 COUTURE!!!!!!!

Boring!
Grace Kelly inspiration, very literal and Dior cliché, Raf please!
