Christopher Kane F/W 10.11 London

underage tFS. but yeah, same for McQueen, if someone hasn't brought him up yet, then clock's ticking!. :innocent:

The entire collection could be the same as last season or the one before last season or all the others he's done, nothing atrocious, I would even get one or two items from it, but an all-dresses/skirts festival can hardly be considered a collection in my book, he changes prints and textures, that's all he seems to be wanting to do, not much different than Rodarte, except Rodarte at least pretends to be experimental, this guy doesn't, he could be Mark Fast for all I know, only with a great casting director, hip stylist and all the cool friends behind him.

well I'm not underage by any means but i have to admit i'm guilty of seeing both Prada and Balenciaga in this..:ninja: i don't consider myself someone to see literal interpretations from one collection in another, i rarely describe the work of one designer by using another designer, but in this case i can't help but see influences from both the aforementioned designers... maybe that's an untrained eye, maybe it's lazy of me, I don't know....but i swear i see it..

a bit disappionted with it. i see Erdem, Dolce&Gabbana and prada in this collection, too.

They resemble traditional Chinese qungua and cheongsam but in leather. The problem is that they don't seem to fit when models are walking, especially at the shoulder. The black colour makes this even more conspicuous.

I agree that it's very Balenciaga except these dresses do not have the same cut and look worse.

I'm not 100% on the whole collection but theres 1 or two dresses I love!, as others have said, do't particularly love the shoes, and some peices do't quite tie together for me, but when it works its great!

I don't think it looks Balenciaga, but it does have the same type of appeal that Balenciaga has . Christopher Kane makes what he touches work for him the same way Nicholas Ghesquière does, but they cut completely different and have a different aesthetic .

The collection is great, but I somehow wish he offered more than what was in the collection . Oh well, still great !

^ Know what you mean but hes still working with limited budgets. Its growing on me and more but Christopher's work always does.

(thiago where are you?? i'm sure you'll know what i'm talking about! lol)...
 zoomp!
i really like the leather pieces but i had better expectations... the shoes aren't bad as well but I can't say i'm impressed. maybe i'll start to like it when i see stylists' visions over it. the same thing happened with S/S 09. i didn't like it at first sight but then i started to look at it in a different way (but since this collection isn't as strong as the one i mentioned i'm not sure if i'm going to change my mind).

As much as it drives me crazy reading it in most of the collection threads every season, I actually did see a vague Balenciaga vibe at first. The first few blurry pictures especially made me think of Ghesquiere's S/S 03 scuba collection with those dense jungle prints on black neoprene.

But seeing the whole thing it is different. I wish I could say I liked it more, because in concept I do. The whole needlepoint florals with kinky black patent is original in it's own way, but beyond appreciating the clash of elements I can't get past how much I loathe the florals themselves.

Yes, I felt the same initially. :ninja:
It is very reminiscent of that general idea but the techniques used here separate it. Still, I find it all very blah. It's a very take it or leave it collection that relies much too heavily on print and 'off-the-moment' silhouettes. Bores me to tears but I'm never all that thrilled with Kane's work, tbh.

^ Ironically, I feel opposite about Kane. Whereas most labels have a certain dreamgirl that they create and design for, I feel like Christopher creates a new girl every season, the only consistency being that she's always good girl with some edgy habits- a good girl, but not a nice girl. There are pros and cons to this, but at this point, I think it's working in his favor.

This is how I feel too. I'm not really in love with this collection. I feel like beyond this the clothes themselves would just fall out of trend like after a season.

^^Isn't, though? For those interested, the song is "This Bitter Earth/On the Nature of Daylight" - Dinah Washington & Max Richter (from the "Shutter Island" soundtrack).

It adds such an emotional layer to the show. I adore this collection, I love that Kane was thinking of a juvenile delinquent who's mother is locked up in prison, embroidering delicate flowers to bide the time, and the music makes everything seem so tragic and sweet.

I definitely agree that the music adds on another emotional layer and transforms this collection into something completely different . It makes the pieces more sentimental and I can now completely understand this collection . It may not be the greatest collection on earth, but somehow it seems the clothes are more earnest now .

Ah the magic of watching a show to capture the mood . Best soundtrack of the season so far .
