too much of these outfits looked more romantic goth than punk and a lot of them looked like costumes (as a lot of people have said here) i still can't get over how gorgeous Rooney Mara and Amanda Seyfried looked though!

After seeing all the pictures from last night, my best dressed are as follows:

1. Miley Cyrus...I can't believe she's number one, but she KILLED It. Her recent everyday style has been very punk, so I'm not surprised. She really did it the punk thing the way it should be done. She didn't go overboard. She went crazy with the hair and didn't wear anything too revealing. It just looks so natural on her. I love it.

2. Anne Hathaway...LOVED IT!!! It's such a great look for her. It's very 90s punk.

3. Anja Rubik...I love everything about it. And I love that she went for color. A lot of celebs clearly thought punk automatically means black. It's almost like the female version of James Dean...if that makes any sense.

4. Madonna...it's the opposite of Miley's version of punk. It's over the top and I love it for some reason.

5. Diane Kruger...I love her accessories and the pink hair.

6. Rooney Mara...I really loved this on her. It's not as punk as I was hoping, but I still love it.

7. Julie Macklowe...at any other event, I would think it's a mess, but it fits the theme perfectly. And it's a Costume ball for goodness sake!

8. Hailee Steinfeld...I love the safety pin details on the dress.

9. Elle Fanning...I love the tie dye and her makeup.

10. Sarah Jessica Parker...Amazing.

As disappointed as I was by the red carpet last night (so many missed opportunities...) people should remember that the "theme" isn't really for the red carpet and the gala isn't really the point. The exhibit that runs all summer is! The exhibit is there to celebrate and explore an important social movement and those that shaped it. So to say, "why do they even bother with a theme?" is forgetting that there is more to it then just a party.
