Early Oscar Buzz/Nominations '06-'07

from the movies i've seen lately i'd pick:

Volver
WTC
The Queen (Helen Mirren was brilliant!)

If Milos Forman's Goya's ghost gets released soon, I think it has a decent shot at the oscars too.

this movie disturbed me. Is that the girl going after that guy and trapping him in the house?

Yeah the ending was kind of disturbing, but I liked how the writer flipped it. There's not much more I can say about the movie without ruining it for others, but I loved it becuase it was unlike anything I had ever seen before and it dealt with an epidemic, going on in the U.S at least.

I'd be highly surprised if Marie Antionette gets an Oscar nod. I've never seen it but I haven't heard any buzz from critics. Come to think ofit I haven't heard anyone even give it a good review...:ninja:

i will also be surprised if marie antoinette is nominated...
i saw "the last king of scotland" and forest whitaker is amazing in it...
if he's not nominated, something is wrong with the academy...

i haven't heard anything regarding nicole kidman's performance in "fur," but the academy seems to love her, so a nod isn't out of the question...
another actress with a shot of best actress is rachel weisz in "the fountain" and i've heard nothing but good things about penelope cruz in "volver" (even though i can't stand her :ninja:)

Marie Antoinette got great reviews in the US and France at least from the major papers and magazines...Definitely a nomination for Costumes at least and probably for Kirsten, she may get the ingenue nomination that Keira got last year. There is usually one spot reserved for a younger actress.

The Queen was amazing and The Departed has a good chance...Flags of our Fathers died at the box office so it doesn't matter how much the academy loves Clint, it'll be snubbed largely.

I really hope Volver gets lots of nominations and Penelope Cruz really should win the oscar for best actress as she was absolutely great. I think Babel is too much like Crash, and maybe it will be nominated but it won't win

^ why not? Penelope sucks in American films and is great in this one..

I've been hearing a lot of good things about Sharon Stones performance in ''Bobby''

this should be interesting this year......lots of "non-big blockbuster" movies. I'm excited.

Maybe this is Marty's year!! I loved "The Departed"...it seemed to do well with critics and audiences. (Although he should really stop saying that his movie was "inspired" by "Infernal Affairs". Nah. I think he's brilliant and his movie was freaking awesome, but "The Departed" is definitely A REMAKE. Of an equally amazing movie, if I may add.)

"Marie Antoinette" was disappointing. Beautiful movie to look at, though. It should get a nod for costumes.

Hope Helen Mirren wins. I thought she was amazing in "The Queen."

I'm anticipating getting mocked for this comment but what about The Prestige? This was one of the greatest films of the year in my opinion (The Good Shepard will no doubt be phenomenal though & Marie Antionette was a lovely delight).

The Queen and Little Miss Sunshine are bound to get some love... they've gotten a lot of buzz and a lot of love.

I gotta tell ya, I just watch that movie this weekend, and it seriously disturbed me.. I couldn't get through it all.

Hard Candy was good... disturbing, very, but good storyline and exectution none the less.

Just saw Marie Antoinette, and it was really great :crush:... however, I don't see it getting any of the major Oscars :( I do think it's a shoe in for Costuming, and it just may get a cinematography nom (but not the win). :buzz:

Brad Pitt in BABEL! :woot: Could very well earned him a nomination and a surprised Oscar! The intensity, emotion and acting thru his eyes, sends shivers down my spine.

Meryl Streep in The Devil's Wear Prada! :woot: She could be in the running for a nomination and could very well earn her an Oscar!

Helen Mirren in The Queen! Need I say more? She did Queen Elizabeth so well, you'd think it was the Queen herself on the silver screen!

oh i can't wait for the noms!!!! i think Running with Scissors should be nominated for something. Also I hope Bobby gets nominated for anything also because Emilio Estevez seems so passionate about it. I don't think Kirsten Dunst will be nominated for MA.
