Gareth Pugh F/W 10.11 Paris

^^ I totally agree spike, Gareth is trying to be something he's not and Im so bored of it. There is literally nothing at all new here from him. Black leather - check, geometric lines - check, long unattractive silhouettes - check, this seems to form the basis of his entire design vocabulary.

I'm sick of people using this creativity vs commerce argument. Yes one needs to sell clothes but thats what the showroom is for. Shows are supposed to be shows and they are supposed to make you dream... This is making me do anything but!

Every time a designer moves to Paris it seems like one more death nail hammered into the coffin of theatrical showmanship!

he has done the theatrical routine for years isn’t it far more important to keep moving, keep from being pigeonholed as the designer who puts on amazing shows but makes un-wearable clothes (for the majority of women anyway). If he kept doing the theatre thing that is eventually all he would be able to do.

No because shows are about projecting a fantasy at which these clothes can exist. Do you really think much of Gallianos show pieces between 2000-2005 ended up in the shops and were purchased by customers? No. But I've never wanted to buy a t-shirt so much in my life because buying that t-shirt made me part of that fantasy.

Like I said the business of fashion takes place in the showroom. Engaging your audience takes place on the runway.

It is your choice to buy into a fantasy. I prefer to buy into great designs. I feel this collection falls into the latter. You can engage an audience without circus and fireworks, there is a lot to be said for subtly.

The collection is perfection. I love every piece.

I don't see it as a negative that he's gone "commercial". If anything it's a plus that he's able to combine commercial without losing his POV. Otherwise we'd just have another Rodarte on our hands who can't seem to (or unwilling to) breakout from their patchwork obsession for who knows how many seasons now.

Does anyone know where you can see the whole collection? Except catwalking.com.
Im so thrilled to see more of it!

I am very familiar.

Maybe you should look at how many other random collections seem to copy other designers. I haven't seen this kind of work from rick owens. Yeah it's black and structured so? You are all complaining about something that happens, ALL the time.
Like I said, check again.

But it's really not worth arguing over. Half the posters in here see it, you don't happen to be one of them. Disagree all you want to but don't try to make the opposing opinion seem completely ridiculous because you don't agree.

Its nice...but it's just too bothersome to me how Rick Owens this is. It's difficult to get past, really.

But I find the make up very appealing.

The similarities to Rick Owens are obvious and clear and really aren't up for debate. We can do look to look comparisons if need be.

And that's what's troubling about his work, we've praised him for clothes he could never sell, for a vision he's traded in for the meat and potatoes of his idol.

the similarities to Rick Owens are obvious and for sure intentional in a way. i never compare collections but i know for a fact they do have a lot in common
if you saw it hanging on a rack and next to it RO and hadnt seen the show before you would actually mistake the jackets ... happened to me in Paris and trust me i know both designers quite well.
either way I LOVE IT

more refined this time around, I love some of the outfits. the whole look works really well. less impressed by the odd men's looks.

The sad thing is there are very few fantasies left that one can buy into.

That’s true; fashion did lose one of its greatest show men this year too much was a great shame. However there are emerging designers every year who bring something new and exciting to the fray. Don’t forget Pugh is still starting out and can’t really afford to maintain design ideals like Galliano who you mentioned before. I don’t think Pugh will completely abandon the theatrical aspect of his shows; after all they have contributed to a large part of his reputation thus far. But we will just have to wait for next season to see

I think it's not the fact that he's starting to look more like Rick Owens...I think the case is that their aestetics have so many similarities. The difference is that we know Pugh as a much more theatrical and dramatic designer than Owens. When Pugh tones down and goes a little bit more commercial, the result is quickly closer to what Owens does. That said, there are enough differences to set them apart of course.

This collection is indeed a lot more cleaner and polished than usual..the treatment of the fabrics is great and I love what's going on in the neck area with those collars. Especially the collar in a collar on what Karlie is wearing. I have to say though, that I'm getting curious to see what he can do with a bit of color.

Same as everyone.
As fantsatic as it is to look at, there is too many unforgivably obvious similarities to Rick Owens and Yohji that I just can't ignore.

It's funny because when Tom Ford is copied I seem to not care and just give in, but when Rick Owens is imitated it's a whole different story.

im liking pugh more and more. this is polished and well put together, very impressed. least season was as well but this got better. i actually love how its not as in your face as his previous work, it shows growth and a controlled hand.

completely understand the whole commercializing aspect, i mean he has to sell especially during these times to get through. i just hope he would throw in some statement pieces here and there, not an entire collection, just for artistic fashion purposes.

i just saw the full collection on style and the photos i've posted from daylife of the male models aren't there. but they're from the show, i swear! (well or so daylife told me, i dont know)
