Interview October 2010 : Naomi Campbell by Mert Alas & Marcus Pigott

I soooo want to like this ed, but I am jumping on the Interview is ridiculously repetitive bandwagon that was complained about so much last month. I dunno, I can take the repetitive covers (although I don't think that that applies to this month's cover), they haven't run their course with me, but the eds are all some combination of crime scene, sexually-tinged, mannequin / corpse, BDSM / kinky, cinematic, Klein-esque with Mert & Marcus color splash or McDean femininity, etc. This does not even look well thought out... it looks lazy and I wonder if they photographers and crew were as bored doing this ed as I am looking at it? Ugh!

It really looks like it's been inspired by the Cronenberg movie "Eastern Promises": the sauna-like set, the wrestling, the cold-blooded violence, the russian-prisonner mafia... everything is there, except that Naomi plays the part of Viggo Mortensen!!!

i was intrigued at naomi's editorial at first but looking at it more, her expression is so blank and it's pretty much the same in every pic it could have been photoshopped on. anyways, it's shocking to be shocking but with little substance. reminds me of the ad for dsquared she did with the all black outfit and of course the color of the scene.

this is a cry for attention (what is up with all the "controversial" editorials lately?).. well they got it.

Naomi's editorial is shocking and yes, a bit violent for my taste but, she's working it. No one could have done it better than her. She pulled it off! Although it looks Klein-ish because of the way it was styled and photographed which is a little, just a little, disappointing. :D But overall, it's impressive. I do feel that it'd spark some controversy over the internet in the following days. ^_^ Who's the male model by the way?

Why are Mert & Marcus always copying Steven Klein? It bothers me because the Namoi's editorial actually looks good. lol

I don't know if Mert and Marcus are copying Klein as much as they may be executing the vision of the editor, at least that is my theory on this matter. McDean also shoots covers and editorials for Interview and his covers / main eds for Interview also have the same flavor that is associated with Klein, well at least the Megan Fox stuff did. Now his other eds for Interview don't necessarily have that flavor.

P.S.
I am referring to the look as Klein, but I want to point out that Klein does not have the patent on this look, giving the look the Klein descriptor is more shorthand than anything.

Agree to everyone that ed looks like it was shot by Steven Klein.
But I like this ed, Naomi looks gorgeous and I think I'll be getting this issue. Now looking forward for Lara's editoriAL.
Thanks for posting testinofan.

When I saw Naomi's ed up close, it kinda disturbed me... which in my opinion means it's a definite success!!! But it strucks me how the ed is borderline plagiarism with regards to Klein!

Mario Sorrenti's ed looks good.

Naomi's ed is ok, but it's cougar gone bad.

The cover is amazing....but i didn´t like her ed! Pucci is beautiful, Abbey looks awesome!

Sounds like a good edition as usual...

I'm not sure how I feel about Naomi's editorial. Seen this type of thing far too often and M&M being faux-Klein (like their Kate Hudson W cover & story) is kind of sad...yet I find it kind of funny and amusing in it's ridiculousness. Is there something wrong with me :ninja:...

I'm glad a model has graced the cover. Naomi deserves it. Although, I'm not a fan of her recent work. I think she has too much work done on her face, not to mention her reputation.
