Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture F/W 2012.13 Paris

how was my definition wrong? my basic understanding of couture is that it is dress making that fits a standard established by the couture making society in term of the number of hours(by hands) dedicated to making dresses, quality of materials, tailored made to specific customer and etc.

to me this collection looks way more couture than dior. i find dior collection to be so minimalistic as a couture collection. the shape, the architecture of clothing, details dont seem to required as much time to execute compare to jpg.

my other point is that, elie sabb and dior lack of creative and groundbreaking elements. sure many pieces from those collection, especially those from elie sabb, look stunningly gorgeous but then again they are not much different from what we have seen in the past.

to me raf's first collection for the house of dior is a big fail. what he did was mixing elements from jil sander and dior together to come up with the collection instead of bringing new ideas and elements into the collection.

+1 Totally Agree

FANSTASTIC. What a show. There is no way I would walk out of a JPG show. You just don't.

Perfection. The men's croc pants, The women's tuxedo Vest/dress and coat ! The croc jackets, Oh that was beautiful.

loved this collection my favorite! with the Givenchy ( yet I'm not objectif)

I want to like it, and i do, but there's only like 3 looks that are actually wearable, and even if it's HC and you can do a lot of crazy things around HC, I don't see anybody actually wearing any of this..

Absolutely love this collection. Gaultier definitely delivered something magnificent.

On a side note, I think people interchange the terms "couture" and "avant garde", which is where the disconnect comes in to play. They go together, but can also be totally independent of each other.

i really want to like this too but no, apart from the 3 gowns before the last 3 looks don't really like this. the menswear was interesting an interesting addition.

The Madonna-ish bodysuit corset thing was the eyesore for me, did not belong in this collection at all...

I agree, but stunning anyway!
by the way, Andrej, looks fantastic! :woot: beautiful collection, one of the best of this season!

I love that this collection is unapologetic and unafraid but also full of purpose.

But if you look at the individual pieces, there's actually quite a lot of wearable clothing. Suits, pants, gowns, coats, etc. I think the styling definitely makes it all look a little more extreme. Also, some couture clients ask to have pieces altered.

100% agree. Therein lies the entire debate.

I'm not a fan of most of the clothes, yet I love the feeling, the presentation, the mood, etc.

Oh my god, this collection. I absolutely ADORE this collection. Look 21 is one of my favorite looks, if I could I would snatch that jacket up in a heartbeat. I'm in love with this. I find Gaultier has always been the enfant terrible of Parisian Haute Couture. He himself is wacky and fun, and his clothes are very sophisticated while being completely outrageous. This is one of my favorite collections of Couture week, which was my favorite couture week in a long time.
