I think it should be mentioned in the first post that Kanye West did not actually design anything. (At least from what I've read)

I wouldn't wear a thing from this. It's a mediocre collection and while i dont think its flame worthy, i also dont think it merits the prices it will go for. It's kind of a worthless fill of fashion week space for me. But I often feel these celebrity collections are set up for failure before its even shown, too much hype.

its also always nice to see that kanye can put a show out of nowhere in paris when young french designers cant even get the chance to show their potential

Did Christine Centenera style this collection?

Some looks are OK, but overall, it's a forgettable collection.

I'm a little impressed actually. I expected it to be much worse!

I really think Kanye should have showed the line under another name and not told anyone until after it was over. I think it's difficult for anyone to view the clothes objectively as Kanye is such a big personality (that some like and some do not).

I think if this was the debut show from some new young talent, it would get much better reviews.

Especially if that new talent were white :innocent: Or at least, people wouldn't even think of the word "ghetto"

That aside, I think this is a solid collection. Obviously, one cannot match Ackermann or Demeulemeester on their first collection, it's just not going to happen, but this shows some promise. It's one of the better collections of fashion month.

Lordy.... that is BAD. I didn't expect that it would be good but I did expect it would have been more colorful/out there. This is just blah. I think I might actually be disappointed in Kanye for not shocking me more.

Debut or not, one would think any "new talent" would have a vision.

This 'collection" lacks any vision, and can't decide whether it wants to be high-priced slutgear or a conscious effort at streetwear; somewhere midway through the show it takes and incongruous effort into being viewed as avant-garde.

To me it just seems like Mr. West has taken a few memorable impressions from his time sitting in the front rows of Paris and fruitlessly tried to replicate them.

Bad it is not.

Thank you! Tfs members have a nasty habit of throwing that word around anytime a black person contributes to fashion.....:innocent:

i am still amazed at the models in the show. if he didn't have these big name models, i feel that the collection would get even worse reviews. seeing these models (anja, karlie) definitely makes me take a second glance at the collection, and if there were "unkown" models in the show, i wouldn't even feel the need to click on the HQ pictures...

It probably goes without saying that Kanye doesn't have much experience with harsh reviews of his work, so this may turn out to be quite the reality check for him. I can't say I have much sympathy though, because he brought whatever criticism this collection has and will garner upon himself by not only having the arrogance to think he could head a high fashion label without any experience, but to then debut it smack dab in the middle of Paris fashion week amongst a slew of the industry's most respected names. Bottom line, the clothes are really kind of awful, and I hold those supposedly brilliant CSM grads responsible as well for that end of things.

And I'm sorry, but I don't really buy the racism thing in this particular instance. The game is completely changed when it's a celebrity, because people are more likely to see "Kanye West" than they are to just see "black man". If you already dislike him as a person or as an artist it kind of stands to reason that you're not going to have anything nice to say about anything he does. You don't need to be racist to hate him or his work, especially if it truly does suck.

It's bad enough that Alexander Wang thinks he's Helmut Lang, must Mr. Kayne feels the same.
