Kanye West S/S 2012 Paris

Maybe he should have been more humble and showed somewhere else. I remember when Victoria Beckham showed in small presentations, personally narrating them at the NYFW, and after the good reception, the fashion folk asked; "Why aren't you showing in London, supporting British fashion?". And she said something like; "because i feel its out of my league at this point".

So if he was really serious, why not take few years (like Olens, Beckham.etc), and maybe first show in NY, then go for the big shows in Paris.

I think you nailed it. My main problem is that I think the whole thing is so pretentious and arrogant. Just like the man himself. If he was so "serious" about it, why not showing it in small presentations first? I'm somehow glad he's getting a slap in the face. Moreover, may I say that the result is really poor for something he said to have thought about for years. I am sorry but if after all those years of waiting you come up with that, then the job is definitely not be for you. Where's the vision? What's the message behind it?

Fashion needs fresh blood; but it needs real designers with a real vision. Not spoiled kids who think they can design because they attend shows and like to wear cute outfits.

that show was BEYOND boring:ermm:

the only interesting parts of the show was who were sitting in the front row lol. the only good thing on the runway were the models strutting..

tbh it wasn't the worst collection this season, which really isn't saying much, but it was BEYOND arrogant for him to show in pfw. maybe in new york with the other garbage but not Paris!!!

LOL @ the "non groundbreaking" comments. Yeah, because the Dior house and many other big fashion houses have been groundbreaking in the past 5 years.

The only true problems I had with this collection is the fact that most of the clothes were poorly made and the styling was dreadful.

Poorly made clothes should never be shown in Paris otherwise no one will even bother to look at the collection.

I think he was trying to do too many things at once, hence the confusing mash up and references to other designers, Celine, Balenciaga, Balmain etc. I was going through the collection and thought, if this had been edited down more, it would have been so much better. There were certain looks in there that felt so random, throwing off coherency, something that is important in designing a collection. These ones for example, I think should have been the first ones ruled out:

And maybe even the first look on Chanel.

It's not bad, but it's not good. And I agree with Miss Dalloway, he should have started small and humble. I think my favourite really is the black dress on Jacquelyn. You see a similar look on Jordan but is it me or is the fit horrible?

I was expecting something MORE since it`s the premiere collection but overall it looks nice

It's a terrible idea, the whole rapper cum designer. and anybody saying we're hating on it because it's Kanye...really insulting. if people saw this collection and not knowing it was Kanye, they would think it's Balmain/Givenchy or any other myriad designer names. and that's the problem. you present a show, you need to have a point of view, not an amalgamation of other designers. otherwise, stay home. it's not about it being wearable or pretty. it's fashion design not fashion "it's-decent-so-it'll-sell-why-ya'll-hating".

and you know it's bad when the fashion critics, who normally only trash a collection with still the most supportive adjectives they can muster, are so blunt in their critique of the collection.

I guess I'm crazy, but some of the looks are kind of hot. Most though...no. Anyway, I wonder who really designed this collection--they were smart to be like a ghostwriter, in case they want to do their own work in the future and not have this blemish. But Kanye must be having a meltdown. Did anyone from Vogue show up?

Dont u just love how celebrity "designers" can take ideas that we have seen over and over and over and over and put them in a collection and just because their name is attached to it this stuff is suddenly supposed to be good.

That this has more views than say Prada or Jil sander is pathetic. A fitting endorsement of the current priorities this industry holds.

is this collection called "DW"? what does the DW stand for?

Oh please, taking out loans to hire the models, the venue, the designers?? What about the technical designer? Any designer worth their salt has a golden technical designer to make sure the fit is PERFECT.

Guys, this collection wasn't some apocalyptic slaughter of the human race.

Moderators note:

I´ve already deleted two discussions in regards to off topic discussion (race) and the word "ghetto" thrown around in this thread. Let me kindly remind you that for discussions on race, you are more than welcome to do it at the "Fashion in depth" forum, and about the word used here, we prefer it not to be brought up on this context. This is a fashion forum, if members are behaving like children and provoking and flaming against each other, we will have no choice but to close this thread.

I am asking you to please, behave and discuss on the merits of the collection, alone.

Thanks.

PS Did people actually liked the shoes? WTF?
