Minneapolis (June 2007) — Target is partnering with bi-coastal fashion house Libertine to launch the next limited-edition collection for GO™, an innovative program designed to bring reasonably priced fashion created by world-renowned designers to women everywhere. The collection, created by Libertine designers Johnson Hartig and Cindy Greene, will be available at Target.com/go and at most Target stores nationwide July 15 through September 15, 2007.
The Libertine brand was born in 2001 after New York-based Greene (at the time a graphic designer at DKNY) sent her L.A.-based friend and aspiring actor, Hartig, a t-shirt with a gorilla silkscreened on it. He re-cut it and wore it to a party and shortly thereafter, their line was being sold at high-end boutiques. Mixing vintage with a twist of graphic prints and unexpected juxtapositions, their sophisticated, rough-edged collections are united through themes like Victoriana, goth and punk. With diverse influences ranging from romantic literary icons to skateboard culture, Hartig and Greene’s bi-coastal collaboration is one-of-a-kind in the fashion industry and has earned Libertine top honors such as the 2004 Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Award.
“Libertine brings a bold new aesthetic to the GO program making their one-of-a-kind design process accessible,” said Trish Adams, senior vice president, Target. “The collection is sure to appeal to guests with new takes on summer basics, providing on-trend affordable options for style-conscious women everywhere.”
The Libertine for Target collection is a mix of vintage inspiration and prepster chic, with bold colors, iconic graphics, rich fabrics and classic silhouettes. Ranging in price from $12.99 – $39.99, the line includes a variety of summer staples such as Bermuda shorts, pleated skirts, dresses and linen pants as well as polo shirts, silk tops, and button-downs. Stand-out pieces include shirtdresses, silk bow-front blouses, cropped jackets and silk scarves.
Libertine graphics, including birds, horses and bats, update classic summer silhouettes such as polo tees, Bermuda shorts and miniskirts, while an embroidered skull-and-whale print mixes punk and prep on short shorts, side-pocket skirts, bucket hats and a canvas duffel.
