Meryl Streep has signed on to star in the upcoming fashionista comedy The Devil Wears Prada, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Movie is based on Lauren Weisberger's best-selling novel about a young woman who goes to New York to work for an all-powerful magazine editor named Miranda Priestly (Streep). Weisberger did a stint as an assistant to Vogue editor Anna Wintour.

:woot: lovely, i really feel she suits the role, thanks for bringing this in oana

good..i love merryl streep...i have always been in to movies and i saw her in silkwood and others and i think that she is so brilliant...she is such a good actress it is scary..she just transforms..it will be very interesting to see her play Anna Wintour....on a side note....is Anna Wintour really knowm for being mean..i've seen her in interviews and she seem so proffesional....

oooh! i love meryl streep, i'm sure she'll be great!

Oh! i didn't know that it 'll have a film adaptation...i've just finished to learn the book...I REALY WANT TO SEE THE FILM!

I've read about this a few days ago, and I really hope it will be produced, it sound great. and she will be perfect in that role :woot:

Meryl Streep playing the icy, rich, all to powerful b*tch Miranda Priestly should be darn good fun! I loved the book and look forward to seeing the film. As for Anna Wintour...she is rich, powerful, and has come to enjoy a certain sort of life most of us mere mortals only dream of. If Vogue is any indication, Wintour seems to think the world begins and ends with rich socialites and ridiculously expensive merchandise. And I've heard many a time that if one wants to be rich they have to sometimes be a b*tch and I think anyone in power be it male or female are ultimately going to piss off the people beneath them. So Anna Wintour may not be so much an icy b*tch as she is a driven and ambitious woman.

Is the book good? I've heard a lot of fantastic things about it, and I want to read it. From what I've heard, it will make a fun movie, and Meryl will be amazing, I'm sure.

I think it will be an excellent movie... the book isn't exactly the greatest thing in the world, but it's a fun read- when I read it when it first came out I though it would be ana amazing movie! Are they making a confessions of a shopaholic movie? that would be hilarious!

I haven't read the book, but from the descriptions of the character this should be a fun watch ^_^

Thank God, someone else who thinks Sophie Kinsella's books should be made into movies. I think all three Shopaholics books should be done up.....it'll be like a high fashion Bridgit Jones!

I'm not so sure about Meryl Streep. I don't think I could ever see Anna Wintour (or a character based on her) looking like that. Other than that, though, I think she's perfect. I hope they have lots of cameos - the book talks about all the other employees looking like supermodels so it would be fun if all the minor characters were played by supermodels. Excitement excitement.

thanks for the info oana...:flower:

interesting...
didn't know they were making it into a movie...

that's a great point!! I can see the cast being rounded out by models like shalom harlow, amber valletta, rebecca romijn, james/jamie king, or maybe diane krueger . . . those are just some of the models who tried acting that popped into my head. It would be cool to see them in something like this . . .

I can definately see Amber Valetta. She was actually very good in Hitch. I can also see Jay Manuel as the friend that works down the hall

Who's somebody young, brunette, and reasonably tall and attractive? (I'll put 50 dollars down that Parminder Nagra ends up being one of her roomates :P)

Ooo...what about Erin O'Connor, she has a british accent, but she is a good actress (from one episode of AbFab).

Im gonna get this book next time I pass a book store, sounds interesting...

Its a good read, and I think its out on Softcover by now. Don't expect Dostoyevsky or anything, but its still really good. Not great as far as literature goes, but its Grade A mind-trash. And the allusions aren't that vague, which makes it easier on the brain for reading on the beach.
