Any chance of a similar pic with Snejana and Natasha? Lol.

OH NOES you have no idea how I much grinned at that. I dunno about that Jessica Hart/Natasha friendship. In my cynical head I think Jessica is merely trying to win her way back into the fashion elite's graces by hanging on to Natasha. She really hasn't done much ever since VS booted her.

Well doubtful since Snejana isn't relevant enough to be invited to the same place as Natasha anymore. Unless she messages her or somthing.

I was being facetious, Scotty. Lol. But you're right. Don't say that on IG though, her viper tongue will tear you to shreds.

Grace Coddington did NOT lie one bit! She said it how it is. These girls now just land on the job instead of working form NYFW, to LFW and then fight for these campaigns.
We don't have documentaries on young models trying to make it big, we have videos all over Vogue about what Kendall's routine is, how she's getting ready for X event. It's changed, sadly.
Another interesting point as of late is that I've wanted modeling to come back into the mainstream media, and finally it's here again... but with Kendall & Gigi.

Speaking of Kendall and Gigi, Maryna speaks briefly on the modeling industry now and how you only get invited to events these days if you have a personality.

I'll go to events, too... I went to the Met Ball a few weeks ago, which has changed so much. You have to be more of a personality [to get invited]. The girls at the Met are the Kendalls, the Gigis. You have to be in the crew. Before, an agent would book you for an event. Now you book yourself. [Laughs]

That is a complete lie. There were plenty of models at the met ball aside from these two and they did not book themselves. A designer and/or a brand must still kinda sponsor your invitation. I guess the trend is now anything that is upsetting in fashion/modeling is due to Kendall and Gigi

I don't think GC was throwing shade or saying they're bad models. While reading it, I felt like she was upset in some way that she (with her status) was/is not as relevant in discovering or helping a model become greater/famous anymore :P

A bit weird of her to say something like that when she herself is far from a "personality" or being "part of the crew". If anything, Maryna has become quite an irrelevant model yet she still goes to the MET or to Cannes.

Doesn't mean that what she says is either true or false.

Isn't what Grace said more insider behaviour and not model behaviour? Although she did start off as a model so whatever. I also get the impression that she was saying she didn't connect to her because she was "Kendall Jenner" and not some random model.

What Grace is saying ultimately boils down to the ever popular gripe about millennials in general, not just Kendall. And while it may be spot on, I do find it a bit annoying because she's exposing the fact that people still haven't figured out how to handle millennials. Sounds more like Coddington got thrown a curve-ball, and didn't quite know how to handle it. So supposedly Kendall lacks the drive or thirst (lol) to please/succeed, which might be true given her status. And that there wasn't much effort on Kendall's side to establish a relationship. I do understand where Grace is coming from. A world inundated with the Natalia/Gemma/Trentini type of girl (think Tracy Flick!) who would do anything to maintain a steady flow of coverage in Vogue.
But then again I feel that if you're working in the fashion industry, which is not supposed to be constant to begin with, you should be able to adapt to a range of different personalities. Her boss decided to go this route, to hire this girl, so in theory it's her job to get the best out of her. Maybe the incentive either isn't there at all for Kendall, or it's not communicated clearly from editors.

Funny, because although she doesnt shoot as much as some of her model friends (Sasha, Natasha, Candice, Alessandra, Adriana) a lot of her close friends have very secure and high spots in the industry... She does go to a lot of events because of this. Carine is actually still faithful to her and used her in both of the last Spring issues of CR. Piergiorgio del moro, the casting director at Cannes is also a good friend of hers. She has a secure seat at Topshop's table at the MET because she is dating the owner's son. I think she knows what shes talking about when she refers to the "in" crowd.

Maryna went to the Met Ball because she was sponsored by Topshop - who she just happens to be dating the heir of. She's keeping herself relevant through her boyfriend, let's keep it real.

^ at you reiterating what I said about her attending the MET because of who she is dating. I also thought this thread was Model Behavior, not Model Relevancy. Her new boyfriend hasn't done anything for her career. She actually has slowed down more since dating him and keeps close relationships with people industry people she already knows... She hasnt booked a Topshop job because of him, she was just invited to a fancy party 2 years in a row. As you can see from Topshop's PR that night she isn't even the girl who gets the most attention during these events. Its literally the social media girls that her quote references... i think someone who has been following her career faithfully since 2007 knows how to keep it real

If I were Kendall I'd just roll my eyes at what Coddington says. I'm totally with her or Daria or anyone when it comes to instagram followers relevance.
but when she speaks about Kendall as a model/person nothing makes sense to me.

- she's less "hungry" (unfortunate expression....)
therefore (?)
- the shooting was very quick
therefore
- Coddington didn't get to know her properly

BUT
- Kendall is a lovely girl and
- she's a great model, would also be a famous model without her followers --> she did well at the shooting

Maybe it's because I'm not from the industry, but it's kind of hard to understand how ALL the models that Grace has been working with who have different personalities, different backgrounds (poor girls who need to support their families, girls who do school/university besides modeling, super-rich daughters, girls who are related to industry insiders, celebrities etc etc etc) could be the same kind of hungry with only Kendall, Gigi etc being different.

This has been discussed in this thread before...whether social media affects sales...

It looks like those Kendall Jenner and Justin Bieber underwear ads are paying off for Calvin Klein. According to an announcement from the brand's parent company PVH Corp., Calvin Klein outperformed revenue expectations for the first quarter with a 13 percent rise in sales.
That's about $723 million compared to the $654 million the brand made in the first quarter of last year. In an earnings call this morning, PVH Corp. CEO Manny Chirico said growth in the North American wholesale business — particularly for underwear — is what's led to the increase.
Chirico explained that while the brand stuck with traditional large accounts like Macy's and Nordstrom, it also opened the brand up to a newer, younger customer by selling on Amazon and at Urban Outfitters.
And, of course, CK underwear has continued to dominate headlines and ad-space with its star-studded #MyCalvins campaign featuring everyone from Kendall, Bieber, FKA Twigs, and more. Not all of the response has been positive — one of its spring ads went viral just last week for an upskirt shot of a model, while another campaign image sparked a petition this March for its "sexist undertones" — but, as the numbers show, shoppers are still buying in to the #MyCalvins lifestyle.

I dunno...the way I read it, the sales increase seems more related to new channels of distribution such a Amazon and Urban Outfitters than the models they used. There was really no analysis of the sales increase at all in that article. Bieber's been the spokesperson for more than just the first quarter of 2016. If there was any correlation between sales and him, they probably would've seen that since last year.
