Model Behavior (PLEASE READ POST #1 BEFORE POSTING)

^ Certainly not nothing ... he had her company on the yacht for sure, along with I would assume other guests.

I'm not sure I'd style myself one of her defenders, but I don't really see a solid set of evidence for the gold-digger status that some seem to accept as a given.

I think a sail on his yacht certainly qualifies as a date, and as others have pointed out, they weren't dating exclusively, which strongly suggests things weren't progressing as he would have liked.

It's true that a normal person in the real world would throw in the towel, but how does this Low guy qualify as normal?

:lol::lol:

I've seen your reasoning a few posts ago. It's true that Orlando isn't stinking rich, but her current tech wiz husband is. Billionaire, I think. So that's two consecutive men, both excessively wealthy. The fact that he's somewhat attractive gives the whole thing an air of respectability, so people will be blinded by that, I'm sure.

I don't think the "Bloom isn't all that rich" argument counts here. When they first started dating in 2007, Miranda was already a well-known model, but years away from her (financial) peak in 2013 or 2014. She had just debuted with VS a year before and was certainly not a household name. Bloom on the other hand had starred in Lord of the Rings, Troy, and Pirates of the Caribbean, in fact, he was probably never more famous than back in 2007.
So for her standards in 2007, Bloom was quite rich. But she's worked her way up since then and so have her financial standards.

(For the record, I don't want to imply she dated Bloom for the money only. But as a matter of fact, he was a smart move for her back then, both financially and when it comes to publicity.)

On the bright side, the media here has already moved on from her Jho Low connection, so unless there's fresh revelations which crop up, i think she's about in the clear. I know some may like nothing more than to see a spectacular fall from grace, but it's mostly been a storm in a tea cup. She hasn't been publicly dropped by any clients, Vogue still found it appropriate to post a new video calling her a supermodel.

Of course. The "disaster" guy must be helping her and her agency must be going full on this. I would too. She won't see anything bad coming her way... unless the court starts doubting her story.

Oh, make no mistake, this isn't over yet. Miranda's not off the hook. Wasn't Naomi called upon by the Hague to testify in public how she got those blood diamonds?

The man she employed to weather her public image throughout this affair is the same genius who helped Bill O'Reilly muffle reporters during his sexual abuse scandal, who tried stonewalling with the Bill Clinton & Monica Lewinsky sex scandal, and managed to redeem Lance Armstrong's ailing reputation after he was caught doping. A very polarising figure to deal with a situation where there's nothing to hide.

Sorta off topic but is it true that models have to "sleep their way to the top?" I read somewhere that most successful models have to sleep with influential men in the fashion industry to get where they are....is this true?? I knew the fashion industry was sketchy but I never thought it was this bad.

I cant imagine models like Karlie Kloss or Liu Wen or Candice Swanepoel doing this!!

I suspect you didn't read that in BOF or WWD  I don't believe this, especially given the number of women and gay men in the fashion world.

There probably are people doing it, just as something like that could happen in just about any industry. In my industry, I've never seen it. Typically this type of activity in my observation leads to someone (i.e., the young woman not the man in power) being booted out, not up. IOW, not recommended.

Where did you read it? Show us!
It's not an entirely foreign concept, I think. I'm inclined to think it probably doesn't happen nearly as much as it did many years ago because there's more media scrutiny. And because of scandals like the Terry Richardson one, I don't think straight men in the industry would dare chase after models. There are some cases I regard with the utmost suspicion like Jamie Hawkesworth dating Mica Arganaraz (especially when Mica got a McQueen campaign, who also happened to be Jamie's employer). Interestingly enough, that one went right over the ones who harp on and on about nepotism in the industry.

I always look at who the people are who back certain models in the HF scene. A casting director, editor, stylist, or photographer. And in most cases the people filling these positions are now women or gay men. Also, a lot of the new girls enter the scene armed with a different sense of power - followers! Why then would a Kendall or Gigi see the need to sleep their way to the top?

IMO, the likelihood skew towards those moving in heterosexual male circles. I'm not saying it happens inherently.
I read a story about how Maxim's Biglari snuck into Alessandra Ambrosio's nude shoot for the magazine, and requested a candid with her busy shooting. At the time he was just the owner, but now he is also the EIC of that title. And Alessandra is now a 'Special Lifestyle Editor' for Maxim, whatever that means......

Even though a lot of EIC, stylists, photographers and general people in power are women and gay men, a lot of bookers are straight men. It's also a lot of straight men who own the agencies or are financial backers. I don't know if "sleeping to the top" is the right way to put it. More like "sleeping to stand out from the rest of the pack." Some models have "dated" bookers in the past...
Kendra Spears dated her booker at Ford at the beginning of her career.

LOL! Where do I begin with that Miranda Kerr ad? Lol. The Japanese can be so cheesy sometimes.

That guy is such a douche, he came in uninvited and she didn't want him around the shoot. She agreed to it since it was Gilles Bensimon who was the photographer and it would only be him there. They published a photo he took with her even though they said they wouldn't.

She probably had a good case against them if it went that far but most likely gave her that position to get on her good graces.

Nicely put, back then Bloom was a huge catch for her. She's obviously moved on but still.

It's iffy that she hired that "crisis manager" to cover this.

There was a story a while back about a model in Cannes who had no business there, no contracts to make appearances with jewelry houses, no L'Oreal contracts to walk a red carpet, no films to promote but still showed up and walked away with a hefty amount of money. All signs pointed to Miranda who was newly single and was just there to promote ice cream... at a film festival... please.

i don't think it's that iffy to hire a crisis manager, when your whole brand is basically you, it's certainly important to control your image as much as possible, something most big name models do incessantly - Aside from Kate Moss, who isn't particularly phased by scandal. I think it only looks odd that Miranda has hired Fabiani because most models probably don't have the financial resources to afford literally the no.1 crisis manager like she can.

... and he was 42. However, she will turn 49 later this month. (I.e., this occurred in the 80s).

It could also have been her husband's hire or he could have had significant input to the decision. It's not just her image anymore, it also has impact beyond her.
