Gigi Hadids response to the backlash on her Vogue Italia cover:

If her hair was blonde on the cover it wouldn't be so bad, but she looks extremely photoshopped, her face looks weird, nothing like her. I think the tanned problem is something expected from Steven Klein, even Meisel has done it for Versace and Roberto Cavalli ads and nobody made a great deal about it.

What I wonder is about the thoughts of VI team and Klein's team about Gigi's response.

Supposedly it's 'blackface' which I'm really not seeing, but she has been accused of being racist before so here we are again.

Yeah, it's definitely NOT blackface. I can't believe people are actually calling this blackface or racist? It's just a really bad tan and an even worse photoshop. I'm not a huge fan of Gigi but her apology, which she shouldn't have to make, was on point. She has no control over post-editing so people need to chill out.

Who's calling this blackface? Overly bronzed, yes. But NOT blackface. Gigi also shouldn't have responded because she not only legitimised their silliness, but oddly enough seems to agree with them that it is indeed blackface? Talk about stitching yourself up.
Anyway, she needs some guidance with her PR and getting her point across. That first point negates just about everything else because what she's saying if anybody books her for a blackface shoot she'd agree to it, take the cover and the money, but not the blame. Bollocks. Why are we even having this conversation then?

She clearly stated that it was bronzing at the beginning of her response.

GiGi is a class act as always kudos to her...I mean this whole desire to extremely offended by everything is pathetic...Yes it a crappy cover on every single level... but this is in no way on any level is black-face..this photog always does stuff like this...what is this world coming to...yikes...i feel for these young lady's in this social media Instagram era.....smh ..

Gigi's explanation - I don't necessarily think it's an apology, even though she does say she is sorry and she wishes the outcome were different - is very classy. I don't think it was needed either, but it speaks well of her (her team's?) awareness and ability to respond in a pleasing manner while still standing her ground.

I don´t think her apology was necessary but in today´s climate, it totally is... specially is she wants people online off her back. Editors should know better by now, a white woman overly bronzed will read as blackface, it already happened with Kim Kardashian.

Her explanation was not needed... she should have kept her opinions to herself. I wonder how the VI team and Klein feel about her statement... not properly executing the creative vision... lol. She sounds a bit full of herself to me...

Precisely, people are not reading between the lines of that statement. She should've ended after 'the level I had been bronzed to on set that day.' Because everything else after that is just a slippery slope of contradictory tosh. Anyone with enough comprehension skills would be able to spot that.

The hate against Gigi is too much at this point. She should stop addressing everything she is accused of... she also apologized on IG for wearing fur on a shoot years ago..

Agree. I don’t particularly like or dislike her, but she really is a model whose job is to.....model!
Why is she even commenting on creative directions etc, and she isn’t a star type of model where her comments matters. It doesn’t and she should just shut up.

Not a Gigi fan at all but why shouldn't she comment? The 'she's just a model so she should keep quiet' statement doesn't apply because it's Gigi Hadid. She was never a regular model. She's been accused of being racist in the past and so it's completely understandable that she'd want to address this ASAP. A regular person wouldn't know that a model has no control over how the finished shoot looks so she's educating a lot of people and trying to show that it's not her fault.

People really seem to like complaining about anything these days. I'm not her biggest fan by any means but I really don't see what all the fuss is about. The girl did nothing wrong and I really respect her for that articulate response.

I guess everyone has a different definition of professionalism. Imagine models claiming they do not want to wear a certain dress or a particular look, or work at a particular location. I rest my case

So you think she should have kept her mouth shut and not stood up for herself? That's cute, but it's not 2008 anymore, models have a voice whether you like it or not. :P
