Model Behavior (PLEASE READ POST #1 BEFORE POSTING)

Good point Lola, I'd be interested to know how much models were able to make back in the days. And how much they are paid now for their occasional jobs and runway appearances.

I must say that when I saw this gofundme, it was a big surprise. How come people who are showing off their lavish lifestyle on IG have suddenly no money for their own health. How come they don't have savings or travel insurance? It's not the first case of celebrity asking for money to pay for health cost and probably won't be the last... in any case, best wishes to her in her fight against this terrible illness.

I remember talking with Farida Khelfa a longtime ago about it. And she said to me that they weren’t making that much money. They were making enough to be independent but it was like a never-ending party with people always paying things for them or things like that.
I can only imagine how it was for Pat! When you hear her talk about her career, it seems like she never worked (like Betty Catroux).

Farida for example became quickly a collaborator for her friends (Gaultier & Alaia), had a relationship with her best friend’s friend (Seydoux) and has managed to work in the industry without being a face of it anymore.

We don’t know that much about Pat outside of modeling but I can totally believe that while she has money, she doesn’t necessarly have that kind of money. She did a campaign for L’Oreal and is still modeling. It must pay well but maybe she didn’t save.
I can totally see her getting gifts from various designers.
Even for Anna being a debutante..Pat was friend with Karl. A note to Karl, a Chanel Couture dress and the deal is done.

I read the article on the Nytimes and while I was surprised to read her husband saying « we are normal people », I’m not that surprised overall. It’s easy to lose yourself or to not have a « real world common-sense » in terms of money when the peak of your career was in a era when everything was easy.
Maybe today, she is working more for money than « for fun ».
Look at Andre Leon Talley...he has the same « money problems ».

Pat has a house in Southern NJ. I’m from there, and while it’s a nice neighborhood, it always seemed strange to me that she would choose there to live. There’s not much around. Her house is nice but small. Not what you would think for a supermodel.

Pat's situation exactly highlights one of the biggest problems with fashion - the smoke and mirrors. Majority of the people in fashion you see flashing their lavish and exuberant lifestyle all over social media are broke or poor or have marginal wealth. Once you have an "in" in this industry, you will get invited to all sorts of "exclusive" events, hobnobbing with the actually rich and famous. Designers and brands will send you their sh*t for you to wear out in public and post all over your social media feeds, but do you actually make money from any of it? The answer is no! It's all a lie.

Pat hasn't had any major jobs in a while. I think one campaign last year and two the year before. I don't think any of those paid very well, especially since the rates for campaigns have decreased tremendously - something I blame agencies for, by basically pimping out their models for the minimum rates.

He daughter, Anna, hasn't had any substantial work in a while either. Editorials and magazine covers pay nothing and her profile isn't high enough to be commanding serious appearance fees.

All that said, this is one very lovely family and Pat has an amazing soul. In fact, a couple years ago, she introduced me to someone who would become one of my closest friends in NYC. I wish her nothing but good fortunes and great health.

Wouldnt even say that is a problem exclusive to fashion. You can misread any person's income on Instagram by what they are choosing to show. I can admit I have been guilty myself of portraying a much more lavish lifestyle than I actually lead.

Anyway I hope the US can change soon. I just cant imagine how terrible it is to live there and get sick. After many surgeries, I'm pretty sure my family would be broke if I was American. It is a very sad situation.

Wish her good health!

I'd like to bring a little attention to Gigi Hadid being sponsored by McDonalds to promote the chain during Coachella. I know it may seem like it's blowing the issue out of proportion but I find it so hypocritical that she'd do that. Here's a girl that we know eats clean, promotes organic food and works out because you just don't maintain that body by eating fast food all the time. And yes, I know she - like all of us - eats a bit of fast food from time to time, but being paid to promote this cancerous brand that causes obesity in mostly low-income families causes so much harm to her young fans. It's this whole "look, I can eat McDonalds and still look like this" mentality that is so annoying to me and makes tons of girls who are already dieting to look like Gigi even more insecure about themselves and their bodies. It may sound funny to some, but young people look up to their idols in sometimes unhealthy ways, and McDonalds knows this and capitalizes on it. It wouldn't have even been a problem if she was randomly filmed eating their fries, but the "sponsored by McDonalds" text irked me so, so much because of the hypocrisy.

How about posting the picture with those people in the background. To borrow a phrase from Lainey, 'Coincidence or Conspirary?'

Just because drugs exist doesn't mean I have to take it, no matter how lavish the lifestyle of the kingpins or how flashy their cars. We need to encourage people to make their own decisions and quit blaming others, when we make bad ones. Besides, models always talk about eating whatever they want, but in most interviews will also tell you that they do so in moderation and they exercise regularly.

These girls are paid to do these endorsements. It's the same with laxative teas, none of them drank a single drop of these sh*tty things.

By the way, Gigi is the perfect influencer to do a McDonalds endorsement. The girl is always saying she loves burgers.

I don’t get the outrage...
It’s not hypocritical...She is just doing her job.
Don’t believe all the PR that makes you think that models have some sort of morals or something like that. They are there to make money first and they will go where the money is...Even more when it’s on a fast food plate.

She is no less or more hypocritical than a model who said she will rather go naked than wear fur...And who end up wearing fur; Or models who worship a healthy lifestyle and who are the faces of Pepsi; Or the natural beauty who wore a burqa to hide her not so natural visit to a plastic surgeon...

Anonymous people are hardly models of integrity. Why expect it from famous people...Even more working models.

Integrity in the modeling world comes when there’s a slowdown in the career and a desire to exist for a different cause.

She’ll end up Vegan and eating organic food in 10 years.

^ fyi we have been discussing that video in the Sexual Misconduct thread :)

On a different note of a sad video about modelling...would recommend watching this whole video.

Just shocking. Those poor teenagers. Found the part with the cake especially awful.

God, could the mother be any more toxic? It's only about what SHE wants for Gigi. I don't want her living in a dorm getting drunk, they should work and earn six figure amounts. Because that's what I did when I left Holland. Guess what, I don't think you've turned out that great!

Also, when she told the retoucher 'she (Gigi) was bred for this' or that she would consider taking them out of school? Right, so that they can marry rich rich once the modelling gig dry up and become a trophy wife with no higher education.

It seems it was always about Gigi more than the others. Bella was just the Plan B, if 'if they don't want the All American girl', lol, which in a way is odd because even Bella's laziest shoot is ten times better than anything from Gigi. And Gigi knows that. The 'oh sh!t, I'm in danger' expression when she saw Bella's pictures is hilarious.
Maybe my bias is down to the way I process ambition. You have to want it but not in a Tracy Flick kind of 'I'll do whatever I have to get to the top' kind of way. I often get the feeling that Gigi operates that way. She's not getting all the jobs because of her looks and followers, some of it also comes from connections which she may be milking. The fact fact that Bella said 'I'll also do this career-thing' already tells you she's just like, yeah, whatever. And it's working fine for her.

In situations involving teens or children, some people always wonder « Where are/were the parents? »...
This video with the Hadid shows exactly what can lead to situations like the one with photographers taking advantage of girls, the RKelly situation and to a certain aspect, the MJ Situation.

Because, it all comes to that! Parents who have big dreams for their children..And those big dreams comes from frustration of not having a career they thought they deserved or from believing that your child is above the mass and has something special.

You put it in your child’s head and eventually, she/he will accept to be put in uncomfortable situations because she/he knows that you’ll be proud, as a parent if he got the contract or the recognization.

Gigi is a beautiful girl, a random cute girls like a million of them around the world but her mother decided that she was special and was going to be a big model...Even more, one of the biggest model in the world.
The only thing that saves Gigi is that her mother knows the industry and seems to be very present in the whole thing. It’s toxic but at the same time, it prevent from bad things...

This is just one of the trajectory of models...
Unfortunately, when you comes from nothing and have a family to take care of, you are an easy target. And it becomes a competition because there are a a ton of girls like you in the line-up.

I guess it's not for nothing that Yolanda is nicknamed Kris Jenner 2.0. It seems that she agreed to do that reality show to launch the career of Gigi, similarly to Kendall, which explains why the focus is on Gigi rather than Bella. But I agree it is sad, especially when you see all the surgery that Bella had to pursue her career in modelling and all the weight that they lost.
I have always had the impression that Gigi had a huge machine behind her. The reality show, the pop star boyfriend (Cody, Joe, then Zayn when he was everywhere back in 2016), the constant pap walks and photo ops with Taylor, Joe Jonas, Cara D., Kendall, etc., the endless A++ listers endorsing her fashion collabs... In an article, a writer was joking that Messika should pay Serena Williams rather than Gigi considering the multiple times that Serena was seen wearing the Gigi x Messika collection. Even Beyonce wore it during a concert. I also remember Cardi B last year doing a shopping haul for Harper's Bazaar and saying she got a few Maybelline x Gigi items. Same with Ariana Grande posting about the Gigi x Reebok line. Also Lady Gaga and countless others present at her Tommy x Gigi fashion show. I mean, I understand that brands send stuff to celebs all the time but Gigi somehow always manages to get the biggest stars to endorse her collabs.

Yep exactly. I found it really awful seeing Bella's nose change so much in such a 10min video. It was obvious whose decision that was.

well that would explain her blank expression. maybe she physically cannot get her face to show emotions anymore due to the nose job and whatever else she might've had done.
