Model Behavior (PLEASE READ POST #1 BEFORE POSTING)

It was kind of sad to see all the models going on and on about his passing when he basically said if you don’t want to get molested, don’t become a model.

To be fair people on both sides of discussion are not making much sense in my opinion. Most anti-Karl folk are fantastically uninformed and most pro Karl peeps cannot conceive of a world where someone can be extremely talented but kind of a sh*tty person. It reminds me of several bios I've read of Picasso by very well regarded authors that are shockingly unreadable because or the authors feel it's detrimental to his undisputed genius to admit that he was sometimes an absolutely awful individual, then you end up with preposterous statements like "he was right to treat his children shabbily because they were not very interesting" or on the other end of the spectrum we have biographers that believe absolutely every single thing he did, like some sort of Bond villain in his lair, is permeated by his evil ways. Karl's discussion is following the same pattern.

The thing is that he didn’t say it. He talked about the Karl Templer situation saying that if you don’t want to be touched (a stylist has to touch you to dress you), don’t become a model.
The interview was in French on first hand so it’s clear that there’s a difference in the translation.

Karl wasn’t a all « fairytale » person. And sometimes he was very tough but everybody who has been near him has nice to say just because he treatdd people with respect and he was quite kind. He is not there anymore so people don’t owe him anything anymore. They can say whatever they wants.

It’s not impossible to be respectful and kind and to say horrible things.

I didn't get what you were trying to say Lola. I understand that the interview was a misinterpretation but wasn't he famous not only from his work but also his shaming opinion?

A lot of 'friends' probably just ignored the 'politically incorrect opinions'. I'm sure there must have been a more interesting side of him, still I wouldn't necessary praise him either.

Also perfect blue - well there is a good reason for the existence of white privilege which can be also applied to Karl. Btw white privilege is just a simple fact (considering West only) a person who have never experienced any form of exclusion or negativity based on the colour of their skin. Well, that 'common tactic' is definitely relevant while talking about Karl (comments about immigrants, going to India) or Cara. The thing about social activism is that there will always be people that will find something cynical/wrong about any kind of attempts. There is never a right way to do it. I personally find this conversation between Cara and Jameela very refreshing.

Cara D said on French TV that Chanel FW19 was gonna be her last show ever. Good riddance, I hope she retires from modeling for good now

Where can I find this interview , I trust you but I think this is just words again Cara jsut booked her first Prada show ever , her recents booking are showing the opposite

Check out "5 minutes de mode" by Loic Prigent, it's the episode on Chanel

I can't speak for runway presentations, but I have noticed a shift in magazine hair stylists. Which of course makes sense because as more and more black models are cast in editorials, so is the need to style them properly. Some magazines do prioritise in getting suitable hair stylists for black hair, and by that, I mean someone who is actually versed in styling black hair. You can instantly see it in editorials. The challenge comes with photographers because most mainly work with a set hair and makeup team regardless of who the client is.

Just to further Olivia's case, have a look at this edit below. Notice how the other models got treated with a variety of hairstyles, but she got stuck with the same one throughout. Now I know it's a cropped bob and you can only do so much with it, but how about a middle parting, sleek blowout, Sophia Loren-style maxi locks, it needn't be this limited, surely.

Welp, happy international women's day.

Involved are Natalia Lalonde @ Next, Penny Lane @ IMG and some other folks and Vogue Paris seems to be involved.

They've also posted pictures of an endangered rhino, which you are not supposed to do as poachers use social media to track and kill endangered animals. :ermm:

I didn't realise this was already in this thread when I posted it in the Fashion Insiders thread. I think the best example of idiocy here is Claire Balsy, the woman in his Instagram story about her asking a local where to get a croissant. She is the Head of Global Marketing at Jimmy Choo! How could you possibly head up marketing at a global brand and be this tone deaf?? She has made her Instagram private now.

Yikes! And the captain is clearly a Brit, which......'scramble for Africa' realness???
So basically it's a CrossFit/HIIT retreat which is fine, but calling it Skinny b*tch? A bit much, and I can't believe Vogue Paris is involved.

I must admit I've encountered the most cringeworthy and insensitive cultural tourism in central, East/West Africa and I think it's because those countries are still so isolated in a sense. Add poverty/lack of education too. I'm not blaming the country, just saying that due to that they are easy targets to exploit.

^^
You said it perfectly.
There’s a big insensitive cultural tourism going on in that part of Africa.
I want to be mad at those women but I can’t.
I hate the fact that there are Safaris still going on in 2019. But hey, governments are making money out of it and you have western people (black or white) going there to have their dose of exotism.

Diet Prada try to turn it into a race thing but in fact it’s deeper than that.

I don’t know if that part of Africa can really move out of that.
I have Central African origins and i’ve Always find that indecent.

Yes, i don’t disagree about the fact that Karl is also famous about his controversial comments but as the majority of his controversial are in French, I don’t have the same point of view as people from abroad (like his comment on the migrant that was based on a personal experience from a friend of him).
And i’ve Said it before. He was an old privileged white man. I don’t necessarly think that his opinion mattered that much. He had the right and decided to express it but that’s on him. And people decided to ask him about certain topics, I can’t be mad at him saying it like he mean it.
And to be honest, he was at least less hypocrite than a lot of people in the fashion industry.

What I don't understand is why the Russell Bateman story hasn't been picked up by anyone except Daily Mail and Buzzfeed? I imagine the fashion journos are all part of the group.

I feel bad for the models who had to be involved in this...

Bad? They decided themselves to go with it, right? It is just a bunch of delusional, priviliged people.. Awful.

x2. Pretty sure the models chose to go. Dont feel bad for them.

Lol @ Russell's apology. This was some real groundbreaking cultural exchange. Would not feel bad at all for the woman in the attached image if Jimmy Choo fired her, or for any of the people that attended. Perhaps it would give them something to think about and inspire a true change in them.
