Model Casting F/W 06.07

you can't judge how a mode's career is going based on how many shows she appears in. Some models, like someone said, just don't do a lot of runways while others do a ton of runways but are never seen in campaigns or magazines. If we based how a girl's career is going, Du Juan would be one of the top 10-15 girls while Lily Cole would be much much lower; Morgane would be one of the very top girls right now and Gemma would be an afterthought.

I think Freja is a good example of that; she dominates the runways for some odd reason; but she's certainly not one of the top campaign/editorial girls, although she's starting to get more eds.

this may be be a dumb question, but why don't more models try acting when their modeling careers bottom out? is it because they lack the talent?

i would beg to differ. She might not have the most campaigns but all the campaigns she got for SS06 were biggies (Hugo Boss, Balenciaga and Gucci) and if they're not big, then i dunno what is. And in the last five months or so, Freja really has gotten a lot more eds, especially in Vogue Paris (where she appeared every month, except for Feb). She might not be Gemma but she certainly is up there. well that's my opinion anyway:flower:

Wait, so how does these point thing work..

I thought Daria and Snejana were on top. hmmm. I haven't seen much of Carmen either.

Yeah, I was just going to say, nvm. I found it on page 5. haha. Thanks, I like that system.

would you say Carmen Kass is a fader?

I think Carmen is beyond being able to be judged by runway. She has long ago moved into that realm of models with established longevity, and I think any runway she does is just a bonus; I have a feeling she just likes it, she has an amazing walk.

Yeah, that is true.. she has done a lot...I don't like her as a model, her attitude per say, but I do love her runway.

Sometimes I almost feel like Carmen's trying to branch out and leave the industry behind (e.g. Running for political office), but I think that's good for her  She's an incredibly intelligent woman

I think Carmen was kinda strange this season...casting-wise, she skipped NY to star in Madrid Fashion week; of the 8 shows she did during London and Milan, she opened for Giles and Ferragamo, closed for Dell'acqua, and featured on the front page of style.com for her look in Giles and Gucci. However, after working for 3 to 2 shows a day for like 3 days in Milan, she disappeared. She did not do her usual shows like D^2 which she opened and closed for last season and shot a fabulous ad for; Versace, which she opened and closed for the women's section during Mens fashion week; and Roberto Cavalli, which she opened and closed the women's section, excluding Posh spice of course. She skipped Paris this season as well, after landing important shows for couture couple weeks ago. For couture, she did Givenchy, Dior and she opened for Chanel. she also landed the front page of style.com for her Dior look...was Carmen sick like Daria when she skipped Paris couple seasons ago? Did something happened to her after Dell'acqua? Or...I'm very curious to know why she vanished into thin air like that

^Maybe Carmen had other engagements during most of the women's rtw weeks, so she tried to fit in as much as she could beforehand?

I wanted to ask people's advice on my point system for determining which girls had the best fashion season. After everything is said and done and total points are tallied, I'd also like to factor in the 'quality over quantity' element, since it is much better to walk in 3 really big name shows than to do several small shows for the same amount of points.

For example, take Gemma and Solange. In the overall standings (pre-Paris) Solange ranks #12 and Gemma ranks #13. Solange had scored 139 pts and Gemma 134 pts; however, Gemma walked for 22 shows, while Solange walked for 32 shows, to get almost the same score. Obviously, the quality of Gemma's shows are much better, and I think that should be factored in.

Any suggestions on how I should do this??

Hmm.. thats really difficult.... I definately would have a tiered system.. but from what it sounds like.. you already have that implemented.

Maybe you would just need to expand on it, thats going to be a lot of work though.. deciding which shows fit into which tier.

Not everyone has a desire to act, plus alot of these girls are regular teenagers when they aren't modelling or theyre back at home. The thought of it probaly hasnt itched many of them.

Another remarkable thing this season: show openings. While I expect the recent face of the brand to open the show, it never happens.

Daria didn't open Chanel (but Fendi)
Angela didn't open Fendi (but Chanel)
Stella Tennant didn't open Dior
Gemma Ward didn't open Burberry Prorsum
Hilary Rhoda didn't open Pucci
Sasha didn't open Prada
etc. etc. etc.

I think it's annoying! You can now really say that shows and ad campaigns are two different worlds!

Also, I don't see why Karl Lagerfeld let Angela Lindvall open Chanel when he (can) knows that she just opened Dior.

I think that's the best suggestion! You have now shows with 1,2,3,4,5 points, right Callidora? I think it would be easier to just have 1, 2 or 3 points.

I was thinking maybe I would divide the total number of points by the total number of shows, e.g.

Gemma 135/22=6.14
Solange 139/32=4.34

So Gemma averages 6.14 points for each show she does, while Solange only gets 4.34 pts. I would do this for each girl, then make a second list in which
average points per show are ranked. Then I would average the two final lists: the total points list and the points per show list together to create the final standings. Sounds a little complicated, but I think I could do it. How does that sound??
