Model Casting F/W 06.07

But what if a model only did one top show and she opened and closed. And lets say a 8 is the most you could possibly get for one show.

Lets say.. hypothetical situation, Giselle makes a return and opens and closes Louis Vuitton and thats the only show she does all season.

Then she would have 8 points.. 8/1 = 8 and she would be unreachable in terms of average because most girls do tons of shows they don't open and close each one and the non-top shows are bound to bring their averages down so they could never reach that perfect 8. Does that make sense?

But it would also be averaged with her total score. So say Gisele in your hypothetical was #1 on the average list, but #100 on the points list for only scoring 8 points. Then she would probably end up in the middle, around #50, which seems right to me.

Yeah, her overall score would be quite low. Say Gisele did open and close LV, and using Callidora's scoring system, she'll have 30 total points correct?

So if calculate Gemma, Solange and Gisele's scores..

Gemma: (135+6.14)/2 = 70.57
Solange: (139+4.34)/2 = 72.17
Gisele (hypothetically:( (30+30)/2 = 30

Her overall score is still a far cry from the other girls.

How I would average it though would probably be by rank. At the end of Paris, I'll take rank the top 100 overall scoring models. Then I'll take those girls and calculate their average pts per show and rank them. Then I'll average their rank numbers together to make the final list.

I think this is a good way of acknowledging that some of the top girls in the industry, like Gemma and Daria, pretty much can't walk for 1-3 pt shows to boost their score. A model like Freja or Sasha who is getting big but hasn't quite made it to top tier status can easily walk for 5 shows in a day, whatever they're available for. But the more established a model becomes, the more exclusive she's forced to become.

Ooh I found this thread so late, but great topic, Callidora!
And karma for compiling the lists of all the models :flower: ^ Your work is greatly appreciated! (um the karma window isn't popping up for me now, I'll try again later -_-)

I think Carmen is beyond being able to be judged by runway. She has long ago moved into that realm of models with established longevity, and I think any runway she does is just a bonus; I have a feeling she just likes it, she has an amazing walk.
I can see Daria following this route in the future (if she doesn't quit the industry at 27 like she's mentioned in some interviews).

I'm glad there's a fairly constant group of girls who remain fairly under the radar but are quite successful on runways and editorials, e.g. Lily Donaldson, Caroline Trentini, Raquel Zimmerman, Natasha Poly, Julia Stegner etc...
I think although these girls are never touted as "top tier," they definitely have more longevity than those who ride whatever current 'trend wave.' But needless to say fading out for awhile is inevitable for any model, as seen by the decreasing presence of great girls like Tiiu, Elise Crombez, Hana, etc... I think they'll definitely be back though!

And while I totally get Freja's appeal (I think she's gorgeous and has a type of 'intelligent beauty') I agree that she doesn't command much runway presence...but I guess designers disagree.

While I expect the recent face of the brand to open the show, it never happens.

Daria didn't open Chanel (but Fendi)
Angela didn't open Fendi (but Chanel)
Stella Tennant didn't open Dior
Gemma Ward didn't open Burberry Prorsum
Hilary Rhoda didn't open Pucci
Sasha didn't open Prada
etc. etc. etc.

I think it's annoying! You can now really say that shows and ad campaigns are two different worlds!
They definitely are different, but the campaigns are also for SS06. Some of the campaign girls did more or less correspond with the appearance at SS06 shows (Stella opened SS06 Dior, Gemma opened SS06 Burberry P, Sasha-Prada, etc.) You're right though, it IS annoying, I wish they'd be a bit more consistent...but of course fashion needs to keep "moving forward" hehe...

I agree with Mr-Dale though, I think its moving a bit too fast for my taste now...

Casting this season has definitely been weird... thanks everyone for the insightful comments though! :flower:

I wish I would see Erin Wasson on the runway more...if models are not on the runway, they just make $$$ from Ads and editorials?

They don't make a lot of $$ from eds do they?

I miss Erin too. She's probably just taking a break. She makes money off of her Maybelline contract though.

Im not sure if they do...im sure like a more famous model might, but im not sure for new faces, or whatever, even they still might make a little something, OMG I saw Erin on TV for Maybelline i was like "yaaaaaaaay ERIN!" LOL but i heard she is taking a break from overexposure. But I did see her in the new Rolex adds..she is like at the southpole or something..its nice

I feel like designers these days are more concerned with putting the 'hot face' on the runway than in details like the model's walk and presence and pizzazz; because a lot of the top runway girls I think are awful on the runway, even though I like the way they look in ads/eds, e.g. Freja, Sasha, Snejana, Lily D, etc.

aaaaaw I like Snejana and Lily D :( I love Snejana's and Lily's walk

I always ask myself why anyone would have Angela Lindvall in there show. She is a great model for ads and eds but her walk is beyond horrible. She just hobbles around and is all over the place.

Morgane in my eyes is very underated. She is a perfect model and doing VS I thought she would be a huge hit this season but she is doing well just not aswell as I want her to do :P

Freja Beha killed it this season. I have to admit she has grown on me alot. she is very versatile on the runway. Not alot of models have that. Heather Marks has definately faded. Is it because she changed her hair colour. I prefered her as a blond

As I said before bring the fresh new faces in. It would indeed be dull if we had to look at the same models season after season :innocent:

Angela Lindvall does have a HORRIBLE WALK! BTW What ever happened to Ujjwala Raut? I know she got married and all, but I havent seen her on the runway. I remember Dolce used her for S/S 2005, and Armani uses her too, but I havent seen her :( She is BEAUTIFUL!

Also, I don't see why Karl Lagerfeld let Angela Lindvall open Chanel when he (can) knows that she just opened Dior.

Well, I'm totally biased because Angela is my #1, but I think that Karl really cares and appreciates her in a way. Like I said in her supporting case thread, he has always welcomed her back after all her modelling disappearances, letting her walk in his shows and putting her in his ad campaigns. You have to remember that Angela was his Chanel girl for a HUGE amount of successive Chanel campaigns starting in 1999 through 2001, so there's a big history. I think if Karl likes her, then he doesn't care if she's opened for Dior or not.

Angela Lindvall has the worse walk ever! But she has a very strong sexy look, which I LOVE! Its kinda interesting she is from Kansas? no?

Oh wow, I didn't know that. Thanks for clearing this up!
